What is the best supermarket shortbread?

I’m bringing shortbread to family in Spain and wondering which brand is the best (that can be bought at a supermarket). I’ve heard Lidl is good? Aldi shortbread apparently is owned by Deans?? Is Walkers my best bet? Pls help!

Thanks everyone! I'm a shortbread lover from way back, I decided I'd try to find some premium brands well here in the US they're either way expensive or not that good. I got some Walkers on sale at Target recently and it was just too greasy for me. So I'll try some of the brands you mentioned and report back. It's really fun and a fun note: I've been eating through a package of the Girl Scouts shortbread that they sell here, and I just realized it has no butter. Oh well it's still okay and it benefits the troops. Thanks for the fun

I've tried all of them including the top brands, such as m&s and Waitrose. Lidl (the deluxe one) is by far the best by a long margin.

That is because Lidl deluxe shortbread is made by Duncans of Deeside in Aberdeenshire, which is one of the best shortbread makers, if not the best, in Scotland. Aldis is made by Deans another good baker in Aberdeenshire.

Tesco's own is my favourite, followed by M&S, but M&S is seen as "posher" and you have a better chance of getting a tin there even at this time of year. Tbh, Walker's isn't great and Paterson's is disgusting, avoid those. Dean's is nice enough and they do nicely presented bigger boxes year round if you can't get to M&S. But you know what? Taste is subjective (after all, somebody is buying that Paterson's shite) so now is the time for you to taste test ALL the shortbread you can get your mouth on. For science! Obviously skip the Walkers and *definitely* the Paterson's, but grab yourself some extra closure clips and then a pack of every kind of shortbread you can find. We'll be expecting your comprehensive report next week!

Morrissons the best range is nicer than walkers, tastes more homemade and less generic biscuit. Think it's not baked so evenly which helps.

Have tried them all \[all in the spirit of scientific experimentation, of course...\] and I can safely say that M&S is the best. Really buttery & delicious and not 'claggy' as so many shortbreads are. And Walkers are good too. Probably Walkers make M&S shortbread!

You’ll have to stop off at Scotland for the finest shortbread, it’s not far from London. Make sure there’s tartan pattern on the tin if you want the very best
