I only wish it offered other desktop environments. XFCE is not bad, but just not something I, personally, use. I do love the concept of Rhino.

It's based on ubuntu is it not? Thus you have access to apt

I would think it might be possible, but with them being a rolling release, so who knows. I am sure that is part of the reason they may be keeping it simple with just XFCE at the moment. It is a distro I am keeping an eye on for sure.

You can also install any official Ubuntu flavor, like Kubuntu and use a script to turn into Rhino!
Probably better than installing base Rhino with XFCE and then switching DEs.

Here is information on how to switch to a new desktop environment: https://wiki.rhinolinux.org/user/switch
We don’t officially support other desktop environments, but we definitely provide the option for users to switch!

Installed it twice once with 2024.1 and once with 2024.2 both instances when pc goes to sleep mode it won't come back have to reboot everytime. Installations flawless, however, theres got a be a bug that prevents pc from waking up from deep sleep. Intel pc desktop.

I used the previous version breifly a few months ago which had been freshened up at the time. I liked it but it had to many bugs. It has cortile installed which is great for auto tiling in xfce.
The forum/support is via discourse and i wasnt impressed with the format.

We’re working hard to fix as many issues as possible! Currently you can report issues either via Discord or via GitHub issues. We are going to be working on a proper forum however being a small team we would rather prioritise some other aspects of development first. Our documentation has received a large upgrade as we have converted to an easily editable wiki written in Markdown!

Hi. I meant to say a "few bugs" not to many... my apologies. Yes i really liked rhino and it has some nice features and is for me, one of the better ubuntu based distros. I would have reported the bugs but i was installing this for a friend who is new to linux. I choose to install mint for the time being. I will have another spin with the new rhino and see how it goes. regards

It still exists? Wasn't it supposed to be a rolling version of Ubuntu? (Why would it have versions then)
MrBeeBenson@reddit (OP)
Yes it still exists.
Arch has versions too (they use YYYY-MM-DD), so does Manjaro (v1…v2 etc). It’s a disk image release. So it’s a newly generated disk image including the latest changes. If you downloaded 2024.1 or older and upgraded it’d be the same. We make these when enough changes have been made + it’s in a stable condition, in the blog post it details the past ~3 months of changes to the distribution.

These kind of announces need screenshots badly. Sure I googled some up but there's no telling how stale they are, since we are talking about a new release.

I don't understand the first statement in the "Why Rhino": is it Ubuntu based or Debian based?
MrBeeBenson@reddit (OP)
It’s Ubuntu based.
