I have a HP prodesk 400 g2.5 and I just installed an i7-4790. When it starts it tells me incompatible CPU installed even though it knows what it is. If I can get to the diagnostic screen and do a soft restart from there the pc loads in to Windows and runs really nicely but on start up it always hangs and shuts down. I have a wireless keyboard so it's a nightmare to time the f2 key and get it in to diagnostics for the workaround to happen. I hope this helps you decide where do the upgrade or not. Maybe some has a solution?

Well i have the same question, does it work have you installed it already?
Zealousideal_Bus6564@reddit (OP)
It supports the i7 4790s but not the regular one
flynnu_@reddit
hey. do you know why it doesnt work with the regular one? got the same pc and im willing to upgrade the cpu to i7 4790 too
Zealousideal_Bus6564@reddit (OP)
The bios doesn't support the regular one
IanMo55@reddit
Which cpu is in there now?
Zealousideal_Bus6564@reddit (OP)
I3 4160 im preety sure that the i7 4790 does work with the 400 g2 but im not very tech smart
Zealousideal_Bus6564@reddit (OP)
It says it has been used in a 400 g2 on userbenchmark i just wanna be sure
AejiGamez@reddit
FYI never use Userbenchmark, they're total garbage
Zealousideal_Bus6564@reddit (OP)
I know that the performence of the systems they have are questionabke but is the comlatability?
AejiGamez@reddit
Their data is just total bullshit, never trust their benchmarks. Dunno about their compatibility chart
Zealousideal_Bus6564@reddit (OP)
Ok thanks
IanMo55@reddit
It's from the same generation, so the socket is definitely compatible. Looks like you're good to go.

K thanks

I just found some PCs with your name with different generation CPUs, so you will have to tell us more about your components inside that PC if you want help (your CPU, RAM, PSU, Motherboard, optional also CPU cooler and GPU if you have?)
Zealousideal_Bus6564@reddit (OP)
I have a i3 4160 some 2x4 gb ddr3 hp ram an evga 450 b psu and the stock motherboard
GonstroCZ@reddit
my friend there is nothing like "stock motherboard", only one I found is HP 18E7? maybe that one?
4790 would be a nice upgrade, but if you have stock CPU cooler, it might run very loud
Zealousideal_Bus6564@reddit (OP)
I mean the motherboard that comes with the prodesk 400 g2
