Does your local ice cream man sell proper ice cream, or whipped?

Late twenties brit here, noticed when I was a child that when you go to the ice cream van, there's usually one of two options, the proper ice cream that resembles the stuff you get in a tub, and whipped, that resembles a white version of my left behinds after a curry. Interested to find out who's sells what where, and if one type is more common regionally and locally.

Grew up in West Yorkshire (now 31) when I was a kid there was multiple ice cream vans that would go round my street, only one sold proper ice cream, good old tony I’m almost certain that he is probably dead now though

Not all, my local one does it by the scoop too. There's another local one who offers competition but he's more expensive and only does whipped.

Nowt wrong with a Mr Whippy. Sprinkles, flakes, raspberry and lime sauce aren’t the same on a scooped ice cream or high quality gelato.

Hockings in Devon are a series of vans that does some really decent scooped ice cream. Otherwise I only see the whippy stuff. Scoops usually from ice cream stands, like in shops or cafes.

My experience is that vans tend towards Mr Whippy and fixed kiosks are more likely to have tubs for scooping. They both have the same selection of packaged options. There are exceptions to this obviously. My mum once got confused during an anecdote and referred to soft serve ice cream as Mr Fluffy

I grew up in North Wales, and never came across an ice cream van that had scooped ice cream, it was only ever whipped. They did also sell ice lollies, magnums, and things like Cornettos, little tubs of ice cream, and those funny plastic cones of ice cream with the gobstopper at the bottom, though.
