I don’t really understand this decision, aren’t they just hurting the F-150 Raptor? Also why does the 3.0 L V6 ecoboost making more power than the 3.5L V6 ecoboost?
Strange decisions all around, hope the F-150 Raptor gets a power bump as well
I don’t think so, the truck F150 Raptor is more useful. The Ranger Raptor has that uncomfortable to me seating position typical of trucks in that class, and is so cramped feeling to me at 6’1” 215lbs I couldn’t sit in there and deal with that for a truck. I had same issue with any of them I’ve sat in, haven’t tried the new Frontier yet though, or the new Canyon-Rado.
The Ranger is also 20K+ cheaper though and has front locker option, now with the extra warrantied power it’s probably more capable in most situations.
I don’t think the raptors are a great vehicle if you’re looking for ultimate comfort anyway tbh, definitely compromised vs the regular high trim trucks. Also the F150 Raptor is a bit too wide in some cities lol
The 3.0 is a different architecture and I think runs higher boost by a decent margin.
As far as placement versus the full sizer, the RR and BR already offer something you don't get on the F-150, that being a front locker. I imagine they're moving to a hybrid F-150 Raptor or just going to let the Raptor R be there for power junkies.
The 3.0 is in the Ecoboost Nano family of engines. The compacted graphite-iron block has more in common with the 3.0 Powerstroke diesel's block than it does the 3.5L Ecoboost's Cyclone aluminum block. They were built from the ground up for boost.
Because the 3.0L has a stronger block and internals. The 3.0L V6 ecoboost is based off of the 2.7L ecoboost V6, and that was developed along side their smaller PowerStroke diesel. The design is very diesel like, and lends itself to reliable power
With Ram putting out their HO hurricane with 540hp I’m sure Ford isn’t going to not do anything. Hell, I think the current Raptor v6 has had the same output for a decade now, I’d hope they can find some more power somewhere.

It’s had the same output supposedly since 2017 but the biggest change was the suspension which has allowed the truck to actually use that power without neutering it electronically due to axle wrap worries. A stock Gen 2 vs a stock Gen 3 is worlds different in straight line speed. 2023+ raptor ecus are locked but goosetuned tuned 21-22 raptors and gained around 100-100 WHP on a stage 2 pump gas tune. There’s room for more power if ford wanted to.
Agreed but it’s been a long time since a strictly V8 Raptor.
Driving the new Raptor R in sport mode with the exhaust valves open is quite a hoot. Sounds so good/beefy.
Ford has offered warranty friendly tunes like this for a while. I had one on my 2014 GT. A tuned 3.5 would make quite a bit more power than what this offers.
Plus the F150 has the optional 5.2 above the 3.5.
As if there wasn't a reason to get the new TRD Pro, now there definitely isn't a reason to. I wouldn't buy any of the three new mid-size trucks atm because I like to wait a few years after a new redesign auto companies can work out the kinks first, but if I were looking to right now, I'd get the ranger raptor for sure, then the Colorado zr2, and the trd pro is dead last. With this new tune, the Raptor literally makes twice the torque my 2022 trd off road does, it's insane how much power Ford is able to squeeze out of their ecoboosts.
Zr2 is an absolute value buy compared to the rest though. All the reviewers compare the bison for some reason when the multimatic shocks and 33" tires are comparable enough from the standard zr2 to it's competition. Seen plenty discounted to around 46k. It's a whole 20k less than a trd pro and 10k less than a ranger raptor! Trd pro is an overpriced turd and yeah spend the extra 10k for the ranger if you want the engine.
This points to my Tinfoil hat being right.
I've commented before about Ownership in certain ways I think the Ranger Raptor was handicapped so it wouldn't compete too hard with the F150 Raptor.
Still a sweet deal though, I'll probably do it eventually.
Like... what ways?
I don't think that's the case at all frankly. I think the Ranger Raptor design is what it is to meet a much lower price bracket and to be viable in global markets. The Bronco Raptor is much more expensive than the Ranger its based on and share an engine in large part because it gets the F-150's substantially beefier axles, suspension, and steering setup.
Just a few very small nitpicky things, Nothing Major mind you that would set the truck up for being a huge failure but,
In particular when compared to the Australian version of the Ranger Raptor the US Spec on is missing:
Grab Handle on Driver Side and Rear Seat Pillars (The Australian Version has Grab Handles at all doors on the Pillars as well as those thinner ones on the Roof)
Rear Passenger Vents, The US Spec version only has Rear Vents underneath the Passenger and Driver Seat, where as the Australian version has them Underneath the seat as well as direction Vents in the back of the Center Console, The US Spec is just a blank space.
This one is DOT Related I'm sure, but the Headlights are capable of Anti-Glare (The feature can be turned on using forescan or so I'm told)
This one on the 6g Ranger Forums is assumed to be a safety issue with Crash Testing the US Version but the US Spec does not have the Pop out Cupholders on the Driver and Passenger side of the Dash
There's also the Decision (Again could be CAFE Related I would think) to to give the Bronco Raptor 418HP and RR 405HP, would the extra 18HP Help? I don't know but it couldn't hurt.
Lack of Dealership Accessories: This could and probably is just due to the Truck being new in the US compared to 2 years old in the rest of the world but there's a lot of ARB and Summit off Road parts you can get installed from Ford at the Dealerships in Australia compared to just the usual Bed Covers/Caps on the US version
The small things I pointed out COULD be Cost cutting simply because the US Spec'd ranger being built in the US and the Aussie/Word Ranger being built in Thailand and South Africa, but Ford is also fiercely protective of the F-series sales.
Like I said my own dumb little tin hat theory that means nothing obviously.
If you're not in California, Livernois Motorsports offers a tune for the 2.0. Rumor is they're involved in the official Ford tunes as well, but I've never seen that officially confirmed.
Given that the '25 Mavericks now have gas particulate filters, I'm curious how much tuning alone would be able to bring out on those motors. Those gpf are pretty restrictive and sensitive to clogging, hence the need for regen periods.
I'm assuming because it affects mpg and emissions. If its sold as an addon after the point of sale Ford might be able to avoid taking a hit due to CAFE.
