Plasma 6 landed in Kubuntu 24.10!

The Plasma 6 packages have now migrated from -proposed to the Ubuntu 24.10 repository, replacing Plasma 5.27, which Kubuntu 24.04 LTS shipped with.
Everything works like a charm with Wayland and the Nvidia 555 drivers. I'm happy!
I should add an obligatory disclaimer that Kubuntu 24.10 is an unstable development release and you should only upgrade to it if you know what you're doing. Otherwise, wait for its official release in October.

KDE6 is so good. I think it finally pulled me from GNOME for good.

Cool, now it needs to be backported to 24.04 :)

when it gets backported is when i will adopt it.
i expect that will likely be forthcoming.

It won't. If I remember correctly, the version of QT Plasma 6 requires depends on libraries that are unavailable or are incompatible with 24.04. It's the main reason why 24.04 shipped with 5.27 in the first place.

it's true that the entirety of the Qt library would have to be upgraded to Qt6 in the process, but that's why it's in backports, or backports extra maybe.
last time i enabled it there were some 300 updates to process.

Check it 2024/12.

I've moved away from Kubuntu to Tuxedo OS due to Plasma 6, but I'm looking forward to seeing Kubuntu users enjoy this!

Nice it's 6.1 plus anything before was a big mess. Might spin up a VM and see how it runs in October.
