Can you cycle in a bus lane if the blue road sign only says Bus and Taxis?

My understanding was that you could cycle in all bus lanes by default. A friend asked about a street nearby that the blue road sign only showed the symbol for the Bus and Taxi on it. I have now stumped myself as I have never even noticed that and just assumed you could cycle there. Can you cycle if the symbol for bicycle is not shown on the blue road sign for the bus lane?

The answer is a soft no I think. There are bus lanes near me that have the words "Taxi and Bus" panted on the road, followed by a bike painted on the road. That implies that if there's no bike painted, bikes shouldn't go there.
I don't think you'd get in trouble for it, but it's probably for safety reasons based on where the bus stops or how the roads line up.

I have never noticed this on my daily commutes but agree that the answer would appear to be no.

The Highway Code says the following. Importantly it says “most” not “all” and “as indicated on signs” so I think your answer is no.
65 Bus Lanes. Most bus lanes may be used by cyclists as indicated on signs. Watch out for people getting on or off a bus. Be very careful when overtaking a bus or leaving a bus lane as you will be entering a busier traffic flow. Do not pass between the kerb and a bus when it is at a stop.
