Also I’m not sure where that chart is from but it seems to imply we had eggs for less than a dollar at some point in 2023? I don’t ever remembering that happened….
My hens sell their cage free eggs for $4-$5 right now depending on quantity. They run more like $8 at the grocery. They're saving up for a new henhouse.
It doesn’t hurt to buy dozens of eggs and then mix /scramble them up and freeze in freezer quart size bags. I have 12 dozen I’ve picked up on sale through the past year and processed in the freezer. I just use the ones in freezer first and process the new ones I just bought. This can be done with many food items that become scarce at times.
I mean, I have seen a couple reports of people in FL saying their stores have no eggs in the past week either on here or on collapse sub. People kept saying, no way why are you scare mongering we have eggs here in . This is like that guy who was reporting the shipping rates will go up nearly a year ago and now it's finally hitting. If it's starting in FL and making its way across the US, at least we have been warned now.
There's been reports of shortages, and I've seen limits (2 packages per person) at my local Sam's Club. But there's not really a lot of news on major flock culling or anything.
This CNBC article seems to think it's still related to bird flu.
"But the latest inflationary wave appears more connected to a spike of nearly 8% from March to April, which can be tied to seasonal patterns in the bird flu. That was largest month-over-month increase since the spring of 2023."
Yeah I’ve seen sporadic reports of shortages. Today SE US Walmart had ZERO. We go same day and general time every week so it isn’t just a weekend restock issue there. They acted like we had 3 heads when we asked about it.
Meh... regional and seasonal variations, not to mention individual chains with supply issues. I was able to get Egglands Best for $1.97 a dozen 6 weeks ago at Lidl. Got 3 Dozen Walmart brand For $5.88 today.

MissLyss29@reddit
Despite everyone saying this back in 2022? And now I have never seen eggs over 2 dollars a dozen.
For context I live in a suburb of Cleveland ohio.

Mine too! This is the first time I've had them slow down for the summer.

nautilisbynature@reddit
Which type of chicken?

No clue but few farms use them because they don't produce a lot of eggs and they eat a lot.
