I'm going to do a trackday soon for my birthday, Which car would you choose between a Ferrari California, Ford Mustang GT 5.0 or Aston Martin V8 Vantage??? As a car enthusiast which ONE would you recommend?
I am leaning towards the Ford Mustang GT 5.0, As it is SO ICONIC and looks SO COOL!!!!

a v12 vantage would be better tho
Normal-Persimmon2864@reddit
I prefer the vantage, the mustang is too bulky and the california is not proper ferrari
Vinifera1978@reddit
New Vantage if it’s a New Vantage
martinelux@reddit
For a trackday definately the Aston Martin
sprucay@reddit
Vantage. The Cali isn't a "proper" Ferrari. The Mustang would be good, but the Aston is more exclusive.
Oliveiraz33@reddit
The guy is taking it the track, I'm very confident the California is still the best on track out of the box despite the "not a Ferrari" reputation (which I never understood, since seems like a very similar concept to the super iconic Ferraris like Daytona, 275, etc.
Ajpeterson@reddit
The Cali is honestly not a good car, if I had to pick between that and a v6 mustang I would drive the mustang on track. Ferrari really dropped the ball in the handling department on those. The portofino on the other hand, very nice.
sprucay@reddit
I put proper in exclamation marks for a reason. Of course it's a Ferrari but it's the baby one, the soft one. I don't think it would be better set up than the Aston. I think that's a moot point though because I don't think op will be allowed anywhere near the limits of the chassis
Oliveiraz33@reddit
Cali T has adaptative dampers.
Scarjotoyboy@reddit (OP)
When you say Exclusive, what do you mean?
juttep1@reddit
Don't listen to any of these people. I'd wager hefty sums that the overwhelming majority, if not all of them, have never even driven any sort of Aston Martin, let alone this one. They're speaking from brand conceptualization and not actual experience. Hence, they're talking about exclusivity, as if that means something. It doesn't make the car or the experience better for the end user per se, but is rather just sort of a means by which of inflating the value of set experience due to the perceived standing of the brand mustangs are more mass manufactured, astons are more bespoke, per se, and cost significantly more and thusly are marketed at the wealthy.
Scarjotoyboy@reddit (OP)
So what would you recommend?
Rubeus17@reddit
If you won’t consider a Porsche I’d say Ferrari every day over the Aston.
juttep1@reddit
Whatever one you want. They'll probably all be about the same because I'm sure the event will have similar parameters for all of them. You will like any of them.
SparseGhostC2C@reddit
In comparison to even a 5.o Mustang: It's more rare, more expensive, a more refined experience in general.
To compare it to food, A 5.0 Mustang is a really fucking well made burger, an Aston is perfectly prepared steak.
Scarjotoyboy@reddit (OP)
Fcuk this shit is making me salivate lol
SparseGhostC2C@reddit
Probably ought to finish off your track day with either the burger or steak of your choice!
I got to do a track day in a Porsche 992 GT3 a couple years ago and as a fan of cars and driving in general, it's still a personal lifetime highlight. Enjoy the hell out of your time with whichever car you choose, getting to let rip on an actual race track is an amazing feeling!
Rubeus17@reddit
I came here to suggest a Porsche GT3. Better than any of those others. Is Porsche an option or you’re not interested, OP?
Scarjotoyboy@reddit (OP)
im going to a steakhouse afterwards lol
flyneco22@reddit
Reddit softies downvote lol. Sorry you gotta deal with the sissy kids.
sprucay@reddit
I've seen shit loads more Mustangs than Aston's. That said dude, if you like the Mustang go for it
GameDestiny2@reddit
There’s nothing wrong with picking the mustang, it’s a well made car with plenty of reasons to love it. That said, I’d do unspeakable things to drive an Aston. Even the Ferrari California would be an experience. Once in a lifetime opportunity for some people.
jcforbes@reddit
You can rent a mustang at the airport for basically the same cost as a Ford Explorer.... Definitely not a good choice for an experience where the other two options are cars that are very much more difficult to rent and cost 300% more.
triforce721@reddit
No way the vantage is more exclusive than a California? The vantage is one of the worst cars in its class, these were selling new for like 50k off msrp just a couple of years ago.
LeadfootYT@reddit
California sells way farther below MSRP than any Vantage…
sprucay@reddit
I was comparing it to the Mustang. It's not a comment on how good a car it is, but in terms of how common they are I've seen loads more Californias have I have vantages
bomphcheese@reddit
The Aston is the only one of those three that I’ve driven. It was ok, but I didn’t find it to be anything special. It actually wasn’t that quick and downshifts (auto/paddle) were a bit slow. To be fair, I was driving through canyons on a public road, but that was enough for me to probably opt for something else on track day where I would want even more performance.
sprucay@reddit
If it's the kind of track day I think it is, op won't get anywhere near 9/10ths.
GovernmentThink@reddit
The Aston will be cool at first, but kinda disappointing long term and maintenance is expensive for such a poorly made car. Mustang will be cheap fun you won’t regret, and even if you do, the loss won’t be nearly as bank breaking when you go to sell. If it’s a lease, get the Ferrari just to say you had one and get the mustang after you’ve had your exotic fun. Seems like you would get a lot more out of an M car, maybe m2 or m4, depending on use case.
flyneco22@reddit
is this one of those social media advertised track days? if so lololol
Scarjotoyboy@reddit (OP)
whats the joke or punchline? i don't get it
Blamethespy@reddit
California is a fun roadster. It handles well. Highly recommend trying it. Vantages are good but unless ya wanna feel like James Bond I prefer the California over the vantage. The mustang is the most common of the three but in the uk this might be a rare opportunity to feel American. Just make sure if you pick the mustang there's no pedestrians or trees nearby when you start it.
Scarjotoyboy@reddit (OP)
its a racetrack
killerpotato1227@reddit
Easily the vantage. The Ferrari California isnt a big deal for Ferrari’s, it will be plain for what it is. If you want to drive a 5.0 go to hertz and rent their Mustang GTH. The Vantage is a way better choice, performance will be close to the mustang(if the aston is the 4.0), but will be memorable because its a Aston Martin. If it was a higher end Ferrari, i would choose that.
neotokyo2099@reddit
You must not be from the USA if you're even considering a mustang compared to the other two
Scarjotoyboy@reddit (OP)
im from the UK and mustang is rare here but so is a Ferrari and AM lol
skyeyemx@reddit
Interesting. In my broke and low-class street in urban New York City, I counted five Mustangs, 3 Challengers, and a Camaro, each one a beater in differing states of disrepair.
They're absolutely considered cheap and basic entry-level sport coupes out here in the US. Anyone making more than minimum wage can get a 10-20 year old Stang and wrap it around a tree here.
neotokyo2099@reddit
Over here you can buy 4-5 mustang 5.0's for the price of that Ferrari Or 3-4 for the price of the vantage lol imo Ferrari is the easy choice. Either way have fun bro
kollenovski@reddit
Ferarri all day
Drunken_Hamster@reddit
If they're all gonna have basically the same tires, then you'll feel the most difference between weights and weight distribution. Pick the one that's lightest, or if they're all within 100-200 pounds of each other, pick the one with the most rearward weight bias.
If they're all on factory tires instead of track day tires, do your research and pick the one with the best tires, unless the tires end up being close enough, regardless, in that case refer back to idea A.
nopester24@reddit
dude, the Ferrari, hands down. you have a lot more opportunities to drive a Mustang than you do a Ferrari. The Vantage is pretty good too but cmon man, its a FERRARI. don't blow this opportunity.
IlliniOrange1@reddit
Agreed! You can rent a mustang anytime/anywhere and they are pretty common cars (at least in US). It’s not even an exclusive model like a GT500 - just a 5.0. The other two cars are much more exclusive and will deliver memorable track performance you may not be able to experience any other way. I’d go with the Ferrari because it’s a Ferrari, but to each his own I guess.
fuelvolts@reddit
I mean, it's the "worst" Ferrari, but that's like saying, I don't want to date that supermodel, she's the LEAST prettiest of them all. SHE'S STILL A SUPERMODEL!
cannedrex2406@reddit
I mean yeah, but the Aston might actually be a better and more enjoyable experience imo.
huayratata@reddit
Eh fuck that. I’d drive the Ferrari. Dude is obviously not gonna be setting lap records, he’d probably post the same exact time, maybe within 2 seconds of each other at most with all cars if driven. You can go test drive a Mustang any day of the week or rent one for Pennie’s on the dollar on your app of choosing. You can probably convince an Aston owner, especially the one pictured, at a car meet to let you drive his Aston. I’d choose the Ferrari over those 2 any day of the week, no random dude at a car meet even with the “worst” Ferrari is gonna let you drive it or even sit in it and you def aren’t renting out on the streets for much less than what he’s probably paying to track it.
cannedrex2406@reddit
That's fair. The Ferrari is still cool
WindWalkerRN@reddit
Thank you! How is this even a question?!
snekasaur@reddit
Ferrari. I've driven the California and while people knock it for being the entry level Ferrari, it is still very exciting to drive. If not, then Aston.
Mustangs are literally everywhere and you can rent them from almost any rental car company
xCaboose27@reddit
It really depends on the year of each car. As pictured, I’d honestly say the Vantage. The standard 2015-2017 mustang GT is fun but not super track focused, the California is alright, but it’s the most non-ferrari of the ferraris. The vantage sounds great and is definitely a sporty car, and as long as you don’t own it, it’ll be a great time! This is coming from someone that has driven all three
NinjaballsHD_@reddit
My advice would be pick the slowest car the mustang has horrible handling and won’t be to much fun
LeadfootYT@reddit
I’ve driven both the real options here. Vantage if manual, California if auto. Guessing you’re not in the US, because a base Mustang GT is what Jeremy Clarkson would call a hairdresser’s car and no one should pay money to drive one for a day.
If the Mustang is a manual GT350, that would be a different story.
MrClavicus@reddit
You’ll always regret driving a Mustang over an Aston. Doesn’t matter the feel or performance. It’s a sub 40k car anyone can buy. The vantage is not that. It’s actually special
bamahoon@reddit
I get what you are saying, but if it's a Vantage similar to what was posted above, that's also a sub-$40k car.
dildo_gaggins_@reddit
What? The Aston martin starts at 150k new and the mustang is 50k.
bamahoon@reddit
The one pictured is a nearly 20 year old car that can be picked up for $35k.
Velocister@reddit
There's a lot more monetary commitment on a $35k 20 year old Aston then a $35k Mustang. If you can only "afford" to spend 35k on a sports car you can't afford the Aston.
LeadfootYT@reddit
OP is doing a track day, not buying any of these
Spiderpoopsoup@reddit
I agree at 35k, but cross shopping a new Mustang and old Aston is actually a good comparison. A 20 year old aston martin is a Ford product. Engine built in a Ford factory. Interior is mostly Ford switch gear. It's obvious not going to be as reliable as a new Mustang, but I'd argue it looks much better. With a new well equipped mustang GT costing nearly 60k (even more for the dark horse) you could make an argument a 50k Aston from 20 years ago with 10k set aside for repairs gets you into a much nicer vehicle. Sure the mustang will be faster have modern stuff but looking at autotempest I found a very nice 06 v8 manual vantage with 20k miles for 48k and in my opinion that beats the looks of any mustang in the same price range.
lique_madique@reddit
Even the new Aston martins depreciate like a brick. You can spend more on a mustang than a used 2018+ vantage
triforce721@reddit
You could get a new vantage for like 50k+ off two years ago. They're garbage
jangusMK7@reddit
Can you do a lap with the top down👀
chauggle@reddit
Aston Martin. You don't have to worry about service afterwards.
The Mustang will swap ends and kill you.
The Ferrari is kinda junk, tbh - not a terrific car.
Too bad they don't have any Porsches for you to pick from - you'd really find out what's up.
Scarjotoyboy@reddit (OP)
there is a porche, I dont really want it, think they are common and overrated, I don't have to worry about servicing anyway
chauggle@reddit
It would be the most capable out there on the track, that's for sure. There are more than a dozen variants, so performance can vary. But if you CAN track drive a GT3 or GT2, and you don't, that's a mistake. Definitely not overrated, but they do sell quite a few more than the other brands.
Gallardo is a fun choice - decent car for the track.
ErrorcMix@reddit
Gt4 is also a good one
chauggle@reddit
Any GT(x) would be tremendous. Ive had huge fun on tracks with GTS, Turbo, S, 4S, base - you name it - wring it out, it asks for more.
Then you can drive it home.
ErrorcMix@reddit
Yeah I drove the GT4 RS on a track and it was so fun and enjoyable
chauggle@reddit
Yeah, me too - truly a 'LIFT OFF THE THROTTLE' car as opposed to 'BRAKE' car. There's so much aero, it scrubs tons of speed through the turns as soon as you lift off the throttle.
TreesACrowd@reddit
You think they are overrated based on what? I guarantee you, any 2-door Porsche is going to be a better trackday experience than any of these three cars.
ErrorcMix@reddit
What kind of porsche do they have?
emotionaI_cabbage@reddit
You think the Porsche is overrated and common compared to a Mustang? The Mustang can be rented in north America at any rental place. You are overrating it just because you're from the UK. It's really nothing special.
The Ferrari California also sucks but it's a Ferrari.. so yeah.
Porsche or Aston hands down. They'll be the most fun to drive.
PumpernickelJohnson@reddit
Ferrari. You can always rent a mustang, it's a common vehicle available everywhere. The Aston is the second choice if the Ferrari becomes unavailable .
Scarjotoyboy@reddit (OP)
I forgot to mention, I am already doing a Lamborghini Gallardo, NEED one more car, hence the post above...
TheBlackBeetle@reddit
Which ever of those has a manual. If they're all auto, the Ferrari hands down
Scarjotoyboy@reddit (OP)
they are ALL semi-autmatic
PTKtm@reddit
It’s a shame because the auto transmission on the V8 vantage was one of its weaker points. Compared to the Ferrari, it’s only a little lighter but much slower and the Ferrari 7 speed dual clutch is surely better than the Aston’s. Either the mustang or the vantage being manual would’ve been redeeming factors but if they’re all auto it’s gotta be the Ferrari.
Robots_Never_Die@reddit
Semi-automatic lol someone’s trying to make an automatic transmission with paddle shifters sound cooler than it is lol
TheBlackBeetle@reddit
Then yeah, Ferrari for sure
Privateer_Lev_Arris@reddit
Ferrari bro. It's not even a question. Drive a Lambo and Rarri on the same day, come on man
Dnlx5@reddit
The most important part of a track day is how liberal you can be with the car.
Mustang
Natedoggsk8@reddit
The mustang got has a very soft suspension. Which help cause the accidents. Mustangs are so common here. I’d have to go Aston
pipisiOlaaaanAraba@reddit
Are you really saying ferrari or ford?
PLMOAT@reddit
Go for something more luxurious than a mustang. Also know how to handle rear wheel drive before you get there.
RedditVince@reddit
The Vantage 100% it's the only real sports car in the bunch. The cali might handle better as I think it is lighter, the Mustang is not even in the running and would be a waste of a track day rental car.
icebrandbro@reddit
How are you choosing a mustang, a car you can and do see on the road every day over the Aston or Ferrari. I understand it’s iconic and such but the other two are on another level from the mustang
fabiosicuro@reddit
Are you joking? Maybe you a troll??? There is only the Ferrari, which absolutely is a Ferrari… Maybe not a track Ferrari, but surely much better than the Vantage and the Mustang. Absolutely.
DimeloFaze@reddit
Mustang, because if you love it that much, it’s a bit easier to obtain and hit the track on the weekends than the latter
KiaTasman@reddit
If I could own one, it'd be the Aston. If I was driving it for a track day, it'd be the Mustang.
Chaff5@reddit
You can test drive a Mustang so scratch that one. I would go for the Ferrari.
GristleMcThornbody1@reddit
Bro, you can rent the mustang at almost any airport. Is this a joke?
Personally, I would go with the Vantage, but I'm a huge James Bond fan.
TheBlackBeetle@reddit
Not every one is american and European countries are usually retarded when it comes to cars. You'd be hard pressed to find ANY Mustang at a rental, even the crappy 4 cylinder (which is much more popular here than the V8
GristleMcThornbody1@reddit
Yeah good point for sure, I assumed he was in the US, but it looks like he's in the UK based on his other comments. If the mustang is that rare across the pond maybe it's worth giving it a shot! I can count on one hand the amount of V8 Vantage I've seen in the wild.
DenFlyvendeFlamingo@reddit
The mustang is no way near as rare as a Ferrari or an Aston in Europe either
Oliveiraz33@reddit
On track, I'm pretty confident the California T in the picture would spank the other 3.
ChosenPrince@reddit
taking the mustang is crazy work lol
Scarjotoyboy@reddit (OP)
what would you choose?
ChosenPrince@reddit
the ferrari, it’s much faster than the other two and more exotic. it’s the baby ferrari but is still tons of fun and very fast.
i drive an R8, have driven a 5.0 before and mustangs just do not handle like real sports cars.
Bugatti252@reddit

The Ferrari for sure! Then the Aston Martin.
maz08@reddit
Vantage, you'll never know when the next breakdown is so give it a go while it still starts (I'm being serious, it's a jag engine for the V8). Cali isn't what you want to use on a track day and let's be honest, not all people can handle the mustang on day-one because you'll need another instructor on how to control a car at all times for that.
Safe to say the Aston is the best choice here, just make sure you get the manual one because the auto is like a first-gen automated manual with paddle shifters, they take almost a second to change gears and sometimes refuses to downshift.
Scarjotoyboy@reddit (OP)
I believe its a semi-automatic
maz08@reddit
I called it an auto for simplicity sake (autos can also be a semi-auto with gear selector or flappy paddles, not just manuals), it's technically a robotized manual gearbox. Like I said, it's a first gen Graziano gearboxes similar to Ferraris and Lambos at the time, so avoid them unless you're extra chill with their response times.
BlueFireGuy397@reddit
The California is near the bottom of the list of best Ferraris for most people, so probably not that. The Vantage is therefore the best choice, its a lot rarer and more unique than the Mustang. Probability would say you'd have a much smaller chance of being able to drive the Vantage at any point in your life than being able to drive the Mustang, so take this opportunity.
Zestyclose_Drummer56@reddit
I’m a die hard Ford guy. My family have always driven Fords and some have even worked for Ford decades ago. My first car was my sisters Volvo and it was great, but when I got enough money, I bought a new Ford. With this in mind, I’d recommend the Aston.
The Mustang is cool and I’d love to drive one some day, but the Aston is far more exotic. The Ferrari California is the lowest tier of Ferrari there is. If it was a 458, I’d recommend it. If it was an F40, I wouldn’t think twice. If it was a 330 P3, I’d start foaming at the mouth.
cloudofevil@reddit
You can go to the Ford dealer and drive a used mustang. So don't choose that.

there's several other cars like the Porsche 911 but this is what I narrowed it down too
R3DB71ND@reddit
These cars are better for touring or cruising and not necessarily for the track. I’d probably pick the Aston just for the experience of driving one. The Mustang might provide a more visceral experience on the track.
For the best/unique track day experience, I’d pick something with a rear-mid or rear engine. A Porsche 911, rear-mid engined Ferrari or Lambo.
ShiroHachiRoku@reddit
Isn’t that a Portofino?
emotionaI_cabbage@reddit
You want to drive a shitty Mustang over a Ferrari or Aston? Wow
Known-Diet-4170@reddit
on most occasion i'd say ferrari, but THAT ferrari is not really a track car, it's more of a weekend cruiser, the vantage was at the time the most sport focused aston you could get, as far as driving experience go that would probably be your best bet
Colorado_Jay@reddit
The California may not be a “proper” Ferrari, but I think it’s a beautiful car. That’s the one I would own, for long drives on the coast with the top down, or in the mountains especially. But for track fun I’d probably go with the Aston.
mariofosheezy@reddit
I rode in the Aston Martin suv for a hot lap and those cars have some serious performance I would recommend the Aston. The mustang is nice but not as much as a track car as a straight line car imo. The Ferrari is meh

Awfy@reddit
If it’s about the enjoyment on the track, the Mustang. I’ve driven all three of these cars and the Ferrari and Aston are woefully boring doing anything but driving in a straight line. I never thought the day would come when the American muscle is more enjoyable to track than the European “exotic” but here we are.
Scarjotoyboy@reddit (OP)
yes but ain't the Mustang terrible around corners, there's 7 on the track lol
Awfy@reddit
It's terrible relative to a supercar, but compared to your two other options it's far better. There's no track day I'm picking either of them over the Mustang.
MightyPenguin@reddit
If it is a newer mustang, no. The modern mustangs with independent rear suspensions handle very well and are very fun to drive.
Scarjotoyboy@reddit (OP)

Ford Mustang GT 5.0 - sorry caplock
MonkeyManJohannon@reddit
The Vantage will leave you with a smile and will also fulfill that base line desire to both FEEL and HEAR the car you're tracking. It's exotic in nature and in name, and when you look at it, you probably won't see 15 of them on the way back home in a parking lot or stop light.
Is the Mustang a fun car to Hoon around in? Absolutely, but it's a rear wheel drive V8 car just like the Vantage...but without the exclusivity. You WILL see a slew of Mustang GT's in every parking lot of every shopping center and/or stop light you enter...forever...because they are so so common.
The Ferrari California is a fantastic cruiser/GT...but to be honest, I don't think you'll have as much fun in it on a track. Its bulbous like the other two, but its not proportionality as sporty, and the fact that its a convertible makes it handle wonky (my neighbor used to have one...and its a beautiful car, but even he agrees that it's not a sports car by any means comparatively to other cars of the same cost. He has a newer NSX now that he says is vastly better...I tend to agree, even from a cosmetic stand point).

If the AM is manual, take that. You cant go wrong with any of the choices really, one is a Ferrari even if the weakest one, both AM and Ferrari will be something you most likely never own anyway. The Mustang anyone can take, rent one from Hertz and go to town at a track day. Probably the AM, you wont have to worry about reliability and maintenance, just drive it and be done.

The Mustang is, well... A Mustang. The California has always been an "also ran" in my books. I've got a nick name for it that I won't repeat here. Suffice to say, it's a Ferrari in name only, and I'd rather drive a used 355 or 360 looooooooooooong before a Cali T.
