His book Faith Hope & Carnage is very good - and his mailing list [the red hand files](https://www.theredhandfiles.com/) is well worth signing up for. In fact I liked his writing before his music - saw him live earlier this year and he is an amazing performer.

i lost my brother to an overdose a week ago. fucking brutal. he was 51. totally unexpected. i get home after dealing with all his stuff, helping my family with things, and while looking for a moment’s distraction up pops this video. i watched about 10 mins and broke down. it’s like, “how did they know i needed this?” i’ll watch the rest soon. thanks Nick (one of my faves of the last 35 years).

Great chap! Up there with Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen. I couldn’t get into his stuff as much as the others but I still enjoy many of his albums . I can relate to him in many ways however.
