Is it possible to switch out the entertainment head units between Honda Civics?

I have a 2016 Honda Civic Sedan and a 2017 Honda Civic Sport Hatchback. The entertainment unit in the 2016 has Android Auto and the 2017 entertainment unit does not. I want to have the head unit switched with each other and as far as I can tell the unit are exactly the same (size and connections). Where is the Android Auto activated data or activation signal stored? Is it within the head unit so that when I switch them the 2017 will now have AA or is it stored somewhere within the cars data storage and it just sends a signal to the entertainment unit that AA is activated for the vehicle?
