Is OpenRGB the Best Program for Lighting Control?

RGB control is the last box I need to tick on my new build, and I want to pick the right program. My biggest concern is stability.
TheCatCubed@reddit
Try it and see for yourself. No harm in trying. I personally use SignalRGB.

The reason I ask is because I've heard horror stories of rgb software bricking systems and stealthily installing additional software.
aboo8i@reddit
I have the same concern. Have you tried and had any success?

Openrgp is open source and absolutely safe to install assuming you get it from the official site (openrgb.org) or github. Signal rgb is also safe, and between those two there's no reason to ever consider anything else imo
My experience with both is openrgp is a lighter program but isn't quite as user friendly. Signalrgb seems to use more resources but has much better UI and just more in general. More menus, more weird lighting effects etc
What I want from my pc is a box that I don't see or hear. I want it black and quiet so I went with openrgb as it was relatively easy to figure out to set it to 0% lighting for all sources, set it to open at windows startup minimized and auto load my profile

i heard signal rgb can cause spikes in games like cs2
Oilime3000@reddit
Yeah it utilizes almost 10% of my CPU (R5 9600X) so I trashed it.
Dont want huge sttuter just for some cute RGB.
Gonna try Open RGB and hope it doesnt kill my FPS that much
North-Philosophy-389@reddit
Have you been tried it? It s ok?
Oilime3000@reddit
Just went with the standard RGB of my Motherboard and Signal RGB for showing off the Setup. Never tried it, sorry 😞

Not sure how it could brick a system honestly, and as the name suggests, OpenRGB is an open source program, so it definitely won't install any shady additional software.
CptHammer_@reddit
Signal RGB didn't brick my system but it locked my LEDs to where even SignalRGB wouldn't see them. Only uninstalling signal and it's other services uninstalled independently then rebooting solved my setup. It was super frustrating as the oem controller wouldn't detect them either.Â
Instead of going back to signal I switched to openrgb and while it was a lot more work to set up, once I did it doesn't everything I wanted signal to do.Â
I added the two official plug ins. Mapped some stuff. Connected my wiz bulbs. I had the hardest time with the effects profile savings which was explained in the online manual why it doesn't work like you think it should, but does work.Â

this is 2 years late my fault but by open source does it mean anyone can access how the software is made? is that why people say its safe to download cus its open source cus if it did have malware we'd be able to see it?
I_am_indisguise@reddit
Yes. Open source softwares are publicly available to develop. So, even if someone hides a Malware in it, it will be detected
PainterOk7711@reddit
i see thank you for the reply

Do you know why two of my LIAN LI Infinity fans stopped working after I installed signalRGB?
Sufficient-Sound-421@reddit
because your Lian LI fans are garbage and has nothing to do with software
Comredwolf21@reddit
Actually it's because the software is 💩
Ok_Piano_1091@reddit
The software is definitely 💩 worst RGB experience I've had to date. Had to do a complete Windows refresh.
SnickerdoodleFP@reddit
Unless you can prove that the software broke your fans, it was user error.
No-Guitar9026@reddit
But my windows stops me from opening it
TillyBopping@reddit
I had it installed on my Mac to control the RGB for my Razor Keyboard and Mouse (No software on Mac, and I KVM between that and a Windows gaming box)
I liked it that much, that I decided to try it on the Windows Box (With the idea of using one piece of software to copy profiles between the two machines)
I was only going to use it to map my mouse and keyboard.
However, to my surprise it detected and controls the following;
* Corsair RAM and Corsair AF120 Elite Fans x 4
* Razor Keyboard and Mouse (all zones, all working properly)
* ASUS Motherboard lighting
* PNY 4080 Super Lighting
* HUE lights
AND
* RGB ring on my LG ultrawide
That last one I did not expect. The LG software is complete garbage, so I had it switched off and forgot about it.
To my surprise I can control each invidiual LED on the ring. Something even LG's software is unable to do.
I disabled all the OEM RGB software completely.
I can control EVERYTHING from one application.
And if you install the plugins, it's BETTER than ANY of the OEM software (Corsair ICUE comes close(ish))
I'm building a new PC this Christmas for my eldest.
Now I know I can mix and match, I will simply choose the best RAM, best fans, regardless of OEM. Knowing he won't have to use a myriad of different stupid apps, that are a pain in the butt to use, so the RGB mainly goes to waste.
I have it so that say I open up VLC, it turns off the case fans (corsair, mobo and gpu). It dims the keyboard, but leaves the keys required for media playback lit a dark red, and dims the mouse, and sets the hue lights for cinema mode.
And I have a plugin that uses what's on screen to mirror on the RGB ring behind my monitor. A poor mans ambilight! :D
Can I sell this any harder!!
Substantial_Bet_1007@reddit
i cae here from google and can confirm this after 2 years its also open source and with plugins its better (like obejctively) than any oem bloatware
ebonyarmourskyrim@reddit
Was it any good? I have the same question now, would love to know your experience

mam laptopa medion erazer crawler e30 . czy w tym modelu mogę zrobić by podświetlenie nie było jedno kolorowe tylko się zmieniało na róże kolory ? Proszę o pomoc
whatcountrybeach@reddit
OpenRGB is garbage, does not support my SteelSeries keyboard and speakers. Do not have autoboot/autoapply color out of the box.
