ive moved to the area recently, north plano/frisco. i’ve been itching to play some volleyball but i haven’t played since highschool and im 21 now. is there anyone who knows of some good spots to just practice? i know theres an open gym sometimes in the area but i get way too nervous to just go out and be like “ok let me jump in this game” after not playing for like four years haha.
also if anyone wants to practice together let me know!! i know literally nobody out here haha.

Hey! I know this might be way too late, but where did you end up going to?

Hey I’m 25 and use to play in highschool and could use a friend locally! If you ever wanna go to a volleyball open met together to not be the only new one I would love that!
Or we can meet up for coffee and go volley on our own just don’t expect anything fancy from me :)
If interested shoot me a message and we can connect on social media / text

I know this is an old comment but I'm looking to learn if you're still open to practicing!

Chacinmd@reddit
Hii I’m also interested, where do you practice?

Same! Just moved to the area. 27 and played a lot in high school definitely a bit rusty lol

You can try the volleyball courts in Russel Creek park. A lot of people play there in the mornings.
SwagKing1011@reddit
are these sand courts? how are they?
DentistPrestigious27@reddit
They are sand courts and they are pretty decent

When saying volleyball, are you referring to indoor or beach?
bluebleedsred@reddit (OP)
indoor! i guess i should’ve specified in the post lol, my bad
fraforlife@reddit
Gotcha! Yeah, absolutely what the others suggested and I do believe there are leagues you can sign up for via the parks and rec department on plano.gov

I see adult people play at Suncreek Park regularly like an hour or two before sunset

There is open play volleyball in Plano rec center. Oak point 7pm -930 carpenter 730-930 pm Wednesday night both facilities
bluebleedsred@reddit (OP)
is the open play like “hey, let’s all form a team and just start up a game!” or is there any type of structured practices? i guess practices are more what i’m looking for before i get back into playing on a team or with a group lol, but i dont even know if thats really a thing at this age when we’re too old to play club!

Also at liberty rec center 6-9:30pm Thursday nights and 1-5:30pm on Sundays. The nets are usually set up 30 mins before and some people come early and hit around before the games start but it’s usually games where you sign up for a team at the front desk. Plenty of people do come alone while others come with friends.

ive seen them ... but not really joined them. I hanged my volleyball pads long time ago

i actually went to the open gym at carpenter today from 7:30 pm to 9 pm its really casual and theres a sign up at 7:30 (so you can just sign up for any team) and make friends that way! im honestly kind of a beginner? but all levels of competition come to play here. there’s also russell creek park where people come in the evenings but its way more disorganized and harder to find a team (and a lot of highschoolers there lie their way through 😭)
bluebleedsred@reddit (OP)
thanks for the extra info on this!! i’ve been so nervous to look into it but maybe it would be worth it to jump right in!
ADAOS99@reddit
yeahh ofc the people there are mostly nice and once u start coming a lot youll know a lot of the regulars, also itll die down soon and be less crowded bc all the college kids are leaving too
ADAOS99@reddit
id be down to play but im moving to go to college this week so its prob not possible 😭

I am also looking for some rec indoor volleyball. And I have the same concerns. Not super comfortable just showing up and playing.
Maybe it was all the times not getting picked for teams as a kid 😄.
bluebleedsred@reddit (OP)
if you’re close to my area i’d be so down to have some practice sessions before going and searching for teams or bigger groups! send me a pm lol

The railyard in Frisco has beach courts. They open pretty much every day.
