RTX 4090 Black Screen Issues?

Anyone having 4090 connection issues such as the following:
Installed the Nvidia 522.25 drivers and the screens goes into no signal / sleep mode. Happenings 2-3 into windows starting up (if your lucky to make it there).
Edit: I updated to 526.98 and nothing has changed.
I’ve noticed the gpu fans and lights turn off but the computer is still on. Screen turns off afterwards. Few minutes later, computer turns off. I restart everything and it’s the same situation.
Note: software and firmware is updated to the latest version.
What’s interesting is, when your connected to the Integrated graphics, everything seems to be working fine. No crashes or black screens. Seems to be a gpu issue but what can it be?
Edit: As of August 14, 2023 my graphic card is working and I am able to game on it! BUT I still experience minor crashes and glitches directly related to my graphics card. I’ve updated every software on my PC and those were my results. I hope others found a way to utilize and make the best of this expensive card! For the money: the headaches associated with this card wasn’t worth it in my opinion.
Edit: As of Nov 2023 my graphic card is giving me issues again. Flickering here and there. I brought a new monitor to isolate the issue but again - the flickering is still present. The glitches are annoying. So I spoke to customer service who approved a RMA. I will update you all when I receive the new replacement (hopefully it’s brand new)… if anyone has done a RMA on a 4090 - please share your experience. Thanks. I hope this is helpful.

I have a 4090, thats custom water looped. Issue I’m having is at windows login screen, the screen flickers a few times then subsides. I’ve made sure the power cable is well seated, no bending of the card, plenty of cooling (loop is 2x 480mm rads, shared with CPU) I do have a M.2 SSD on every slot tho.

My husband had an issue with his 4090 and z790 set up -turned out moving the m.2 out of the m2_1 slot was the solution

New member of 4090 family here.
Just had the same issue with 4090 Gigabyte Gaming OC version. For a month everything was doing ok and then after 1 month of usage it started doing random black screens with sound still going.
Sometimes it would go for hours without it, and sometimes it could happen in first hour or so.
The interesting thing is that it happens ONLY when I am watching either youtube or keeping the pc in idle mode while listening to music. It never happened while playing games which is quite interesting.
Cables are tight as possible, since I am always trying to test if everything is ok since the faulty GPU connectors, and just updated to a new driver hoping it will solve the issue :<

I know this is like a year late, but this issue is absolutely because of the 12vhpwr adapter going bad (I have the same GPU). I ordered the cablemod basics cable for my psu, and the crashes have stopped. I feel terrible for all the people who had to RMA for no reason.

Toddawesomephd@reddit
Screen flickering isn't the issue I was having. I had the bad 12vhpwr cable issue that all 40 series cards require. Your issue could have something to do with your monitor. Not really sure. Sorry bro. Hope you figure it out.
Ok_Potential7461@reddit

The screen flickering issue might be because of the monitors and not your pc. Try turning off G SYNC and VSYNC. I had flickering issues on my oled monitors until I turned these settings off in Nvidia control panel
Ok_Potential7461@reddit
Ya los desactive en ambos ,estoy a la espera de probar algunos cables nuevos para descartar si fue el cable ,lo raro es que llevan solo 1 año son de Asus oroginales

I really have no idea. I hope the new cables fix the issue. PC issues are very frustrating, so I wish you luck.

Thanks broda 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Just to clarify for anyone who sees this, that's an issue unfortunately caused by the fragile sense terminals. With our StealthSense update, we have a patented fix for it for our 12VHPWR cables specifically so you won't see that issue.

Seems to be working, thanks.

Happy to hear it! Working as intended, ha.

how is it going now? also have the 4090 gigabyte gaming oc. Card is brand new, only had a couple months but as of a few days ago got black screen on and off during start up. Thought it was my hdmi so i switched it and it seemed to fix the issue but then it happened again the next day!! Just finished playing BG3 for an hour and after logging off I was browsing my emails and got a black screen for a couple seconds right after. Had a couple black screens when playing dragons dogma last night but thought it was the game.
Pretty disheartened about this and really trying to figure what's going wrong. I have an Anker hdmi coming tomorrow so hopefully that'll fix this.

Can you guys update? It seems my 4090 goes black screen and fans ramps up to full when the pc case gets any vibration from my desk, even things like opening and closing the drawer of my pc desk triggers this issue and i have to reset the pc to be able to get the display again even though when it happens, the pc runs fine in the background (nothing freezes or shuts down, it's just the gpu turns off and it's fans ramps up)

This is because of a bad 12vhpwr cable. I got the same issue after 10 months, and a week of troubleshooting and nearly having to RMA, I replaced the adapted with a dedicated 12vhpwr for my evga psu. No more crashes.

Similar issue here - after the computer has been idle for awhile my main DisplayPort monitor will black screen, but strangely my HDMI one will not.
I'm also having a black screen/fan 100% issue but that seems to be separate, and has a long history of happening to people with no apparent solution. I'm running into more immediate issues with this 4090 that I ever have with any of my previous GPUs and will likely request an RMA.

4080 FE here.. today in normale use (YouTube video) my 4080 go to Black screen and fan on 100%.. after reboot i try to run benchmark and same happens.. another reboot and only in win10 desk with out touch any program, black screen and fan run 100%.. after 4 reeboot, the problem disappeard.. any advice?
Temperature are great. MAX 55/60 during benchmark and game. I played a lot this days.. This is my first problem..
maultify@reddit
Are you using the stock adapter? I'm pretty sure that was causing my problem, as I could replicate it by moving it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxFbvNFFlmg - everything was replugged, reseated dozens of times and every connection was 100% solid.
Also, occasionally the power limit wouldn't be able to go beyond 100%, and repositioning the cables after a shutdown would unlock 133% again - further leading me to believe it was some kind of faulty connection in the adapter.
After I switched to a Moddiy cable, I have yet to replicate the problem and it's been 10 days. The issue would mostly occur randomly, sometimes even without gaming, and it seems like yours might be more consistent with GPU load. Regardless, I'd try getting a Cablemod/Moddiy cable to see if it solves it (if you're using the adapter).
I've also been starting a log file in HWinfo every time I boot, so if it happens again I can check if there were any voltage spikes, etc. - you might want to do the same. Could potentially isolate it to the PSU if it happens during a large voltage spike.

2 years later, I got mine, and same shit is happening to me. Unbelievable they never fixed it. Is your cable still rocking?
Sorry-Card-9822@reddit
Same. Brand new 4090 out the box and the exact same problem.
hitbabbius_@reddit
I am using direct cable. (create for my 4080). from 3 pcie attached directly to the power supply to 12 pin gpu.. used for a 2/3 day and this is my first time i see this problem..
maultify@reddit
Interesting - it's possible it's the GPU, but I'd recommend doing the log in HWinfo to see if you can glean some info if it happens again.
Might want to use Display Driver Uninstaller (in safe mode) to do a clean driver reinstall if you haven't already. Maybe also try reseating the GPU and make sure it isn't sagging, plus double check all cable connections. I was about ready to RMA my 4090 - hopefully you don't have to.
hitbabbius_@reddit
I talk this morning with Nvidia and they told me that it could be a problem with the gpu.. they will send my report to the Nvidia expert in case of RMA..

Not cool. So many issues with the 4090. I wish I knew this before purchase! Any updates from nvidia beside what you mentioned?
SgtSilock@reddit
You would have still bought it. It's the 4090!

I’m really confused about this situation. My Gigabyte RTX 4070 has the same problem, is there a solution?
lucidBrot@reddit
I just ran into similar issues with my 4090 and I think I have found the reason. Maybe tomorrow will prove me wrong, but here goes:
My symptoms were various. Sometimes it would only crash the game, sometimes lose the screens, sometimes lose the rendering device, sometimes crash windows ... but always the rgb and fan would stay on. After shutdown, booting would sometimes not make it to the end of POST and the q-code would say 97 (console devices something something).
Turning not just the pc off, but also actually flipping the off switch of the power supply, and then back on again after a moment, helped with the boot issues.
I ran TestMem5 and the RAM was not broken. I ran
sfc /scannow
and windows fixed some files but that was also not it. I ran FurMark2 and it crashed before I even pressed "run". The second attempt, and third, it made both screens go dark immediately when I pressed start. The plausible culprit: I noticed that there was a little piece that has come loose. It is a stand that used to support my GPU's weight, but it was only fixed to the case with a magnet, and it was no longer in place. So the GPU was hanging slightly. Turning the PC sideways, so that the GPU would stand on the motherboard instead of hanging 90° to them fixed all the reproducible issues.

I have 4090 gaming trio and I been experiencing the same thing random black screen and then have to press power button and restart. I just set the power setting to performance in the NVIDIA control so I will post back in a few days to confirm if I still have issue
