They avoid if they are close to their family/relatives. It’s un usual and sort of disrespect for Balkans to have a black husband to their daughters. If a girl is a club girls and disrespect her family and relatives plus doesn’t care about her balkan social life, they do that alot. My ex was from Kosovo, and her sister married a black dude from US working at Steelbond base of NATO. I’m Bronzy guy + Arabic and Balkan welcomes me with respect but that Black dude had been rejected by almost all her relatives but u know most of girls sell out her family and relatives for some passport and money and that’s a shame.

I’m a Black American who lived in Albania for a bit, and visited all of the Balkans. Both in the US and in Europe I was told that I would face extreme violence in all of your countries, save Turkey, because of my skin color. Serbians and Albanians were the ones I was most warned about, and told the most graphic examples of violence I would face.

I experienced none of that, and in fact faced significantly less violence (none) and discrimination (very little) than I have in Western Europe and my own country. I’m now learning Albanian, Serbian (why is your language so difficult 😭), and Romanian because I loved my time there so much I want to go back and really dig in.

It is not from English, it is from Venetian and dates back to the 15th century or even earlier. It is the literal translation of "Black Mountain" (Crna Gora) into thst language.

But in all seriousness, the whole time I was there, not a single person outwardly did anything different than if I had been a white Slavic local person. No hate, no stares, no extra hospitality, no English, nothing. I interacted with lots people of all age groups and they all presumed I spoke serbocroatian (which I did) and treated me like basically another one of themselves, minding their own business. Who knows what was going on in their heads, surely they noticed I was a different race, but that never manifested in any sort of observable action.

I’m from America, and honestly, they mostly do it for views. People here think that as a Black person, you’ll get beaten up in the Balkans because they’re super racist, which I know isn’t true. So, they get views by showing that people there can actually be nice to them, even if they’re dark-skinned.

There’s a lot of psyop content about AA moving to “non racist” countries as if the racism in the Balkans/italy:where ever else they move isn’t a caliber worse- however different in form than US institutionalized racism.

I think it gets boosted in the algorithm because this idea of the US being “declining” and people wanting to move away is a hot topic amongst young people. I think it’s mostly fake and a very very small select few folks

I can say as an AA from the U.S. it is real. But much like anything else there is profit involved for some. Some blog to inform fellow AAs from the US. that there are other places in the world to explore and love and enjoy outside of the country we were once enslaved in and stayed in. So yeah. It is a bit of both. Just depends on who you are following on social media and what there content is promoting.

I’m happy they’re supportive. Asking when you’re going to have kids is very Eastern European. My Romanian parents do this all the time too. Culturally, the interpersonal boundaries of what’s acceptable to ask/not ask is very different than in the US (where I currently live).

Yes, this is true. But culturally speaking Black Americans with roots from the South are generally very similar to Balkans or Eastern Europeans. When he first came to the States, I know he was telling me outside of Serbs and other Balkans, Blacks and Hispanics were his closest friends. We are amicable just not married haha

Yeah, I’ve lived in North Carolina and Massachusetts. Hispanics are definitely the most similar IMO. WASPs are the least similar. In my family, yelling is acceptable, as is very blunt language (ie, are you dense? Are you slow?), but I gotta tone it down even though I’ve been in the U.S. most of my life.

Yes! This is true. It wasn’t as much of a culture shock for me. The being loud and talking bluntly, because I was used to it. But when we would hang out with his friends, it wasn’t only shocking because I was used to being around the general American public who do it (if that makes sense). So I didn’t have to filter myself. I am conversational. But since I never went to Serbia I couldn’t get the exposure I wanted to be forced to learn more
