More Dell issues

Hello, We recieved our quotes for the PowerEdge R760 today. It is *twice* the price of the R750 with the same cores/ram/cpu/networking. They can price however they want but how are you planning on justifying 1 R760 = 2xR750 to your management and customers?

Are you buying direct or through a reseller? Because it sounds like you are getting ripped off.

I guess you're buying half as many. More productively, you should strongly consider sourcing your Samsung/Hynix/Micron DRAM and flash storage through channels that don't charge the stratospheric markups that Dell will push for. This might complicate service contracts, but if you're working with even the smallest amount of scale over singleton servers, it will pay back immediately and then keep on giving for the life of the server.

Get with a reseller partner who can get you a decent deal. Buying direct from Dell unless it’s for end user compute is a lost cause.

Is it really the same because if I'm not mistaken the latest gen is using all new procs and faster ram. There have been substanial cost increases, not quite double, but I'm going to say easily 30-70% depending on builds. With that all being said, is this a new Rep? He may not care about you as much as your old rep. Have you tried running this through a VAR? May be too late since Dell has always quoted it, but always best to work with a VAR on a project like this for this exact same reason. Lastly their justification is "Shortages, overall cost increases, inflation in general" and they won't care if you don't buy it because someone else will. Maybe get an HP quote? But in my experience, Dell comes in lower almost every time.
