Out of state car and license

Hey everyone, I'm moving to Dallas this month to go to school here and I also brought my car with me from California. I've red that you need to have your license surrendered to the Texas DMV 90 days after moving to Texas, and re-registering my car 30 days after moving here. I wanted to ask how long does this process take and is it fairly easy to do so? I worry that I wouldn't have much time to do all of these, since I have to visit a few offices to do these things. Ive had mine out of state for 4 years. I moved back during covid and it was impossible to get an appointment. Kept trying to get appointments but never worked out. Then i forget about it. And rinse and repeat.

Make an appointment now to get your new license, because it takes for ever to get an appointment. The TX DMV is notoriously SSSSSLLLLOOOOOWWWW. Also bring every form of ID you can find and some bills with your mailing address and name. I am not kidding you on this, they will turn you away if you don't have the right documents and it a huge PITA. Birth certificate, old DL, passport, utility bill with your name and addy on it, social security card, blood sample, stool sample, and your first born child are acceptable to the demons that run the DMV. Good luck and don't be shocked when they tell you " you need this document and another form of ID, please make another appointment. NEXT!"

I don’t think it’s that urgent to surrender your license. I waited 3 years to surrender mine because I loved the picture.

You are not required to register your car if you are 'moving' here to attend an accredited college or university. If you are permanently relocating, then yes. I might do so to avoid running around with a CA plate. All of this is easily findable online!
