Spectrum Outages

Anybody having issues with Spectrum internet outages? I’ve been a part of probably 7 outages since the middle of May and cannot get any information from the company other than “The technicians are working on a node”. Anybody here have insight on what the issue is?

Here a year later to day Spectrum still sucks. I get a short outage about once a week, and longer once every couple months.
It's the middle of Plano ffs do they just do zero maintenance?

Same, in an outage as I type. I called to complain with no relief or offer of compensation. Seriously considering going back to FIOS, god help me.

While Frontier customer support can be a nightmare, in my experience you almost never need to deal with them. Seems like a decent tradeoff. I can count on one hand the number of outages I've seen in the past 8 years with Fios...

My issues were all billing related, and it was a nightmare, but I had the bundle then too, might be easier with just internet.

When it comes to internet, service reliability trumps all IMO. And Fios has been by far the most reliable service I've ever had in my lifetime. To the point of being wary of moving somewhere that didn't have it...

No issues with fios over here.

I loved it when it was Verizon, I had so many billing issues when Frontier took over I got pissed and switched, might have to give it another shot

They’ve been through bankruptcy since then and come out the other side a different company. No more billing games, decent customer service, and the product itself has been consistent. And no I don’t work for them.

As someone who works for spectrum please don't harass the call center reps about this. All we can do is confirm if there's an outage and maybe transfer you to tech support. We can't see anything other than that. Sometimes there's a mote that says "multinode outage" or something but that's it.

If you want to take out frustrations with spectrum call into support over and over again. When I worked tech support, average call times were around 5 minutes and cost the company over $10 per call.

Yeah, I am always kind to them. I know there is nothing they can do. What’s frustrating is the lack of ability to connect with anyone that has any more technical information on the matter. If it’s a problem that my be consistent until the node is replaced for instance, that’s fine - that way I can anticipate more outages until the core problem is resolved.

The especially frustrating part is when it’s an intermittent issue. My old neighborhood had a dying node. It would over heat and die, then cool off and come back online.
Every single time the tech came out to look at it, it was back online. Internet would die. I would report the outage. I’d have to do the whole “turn your modem off and back on again, make sure the Ethernet cable is plugged in, sacrifice a virgin, reboot your computer, etc” dog and pony show before they’d even start to help me. The help desk person would eventually say “okay, we’ve done all we can do. A tech is on the way!” The tech would arrive several hours later. The node would already be back online again, and they couldn’t detect any issues with their line sniffer box.
This went on for six fucking months. Six months of “oh, I guess the internet is dead again. I’ll have to wait an hour or two for it to come back.” I considered going out and twisting a few capacitors off of the node, just to get them to actually pay attention to it. Turns out, the techs didn’t know it was a recurring issue. None of the prior issues had been documented, because the techs who had been dispatched never found an issue. So every tech that arrived treated it like it was the first time I’d had an outage. It wasn’t until I cycled through their entire employee pool and started seeing the same techs that they all started to go “hey, wasn’t I out here like two or three months ago?” They finally looked into it deeper, and found a dying node.

To enact any changes, you'de have to talk to someone about 5 pay grades above anyone you talk to on the phone... Switch providers, get a new modem, switch to a 5g wifi company, etc ...you ain't gonna fix it sister

There is an outage here in Coppell. Been without internet for 2+ days now.

I have Spectrum gigabit and haven't had any problems. I'm near Russel Creek area.

At times yes, but most of the time Spectrum has been utterly reliable for me.
Astorya@reddit
Spectrum is terrible, go with a service that offers fiber optic like Frontier or AT&T
Dallskidall@reddit
Frontier fiber is the way to go. I’ve had one outage in 2 years because a piece of hardware died. Spectrum is extremely spotty. If you WFH, you’ll likely get kicked off your company’s network several times per day. I had spectrum wifi and cable for less than a month and canceled out of sheer frustration.
crazy2bob@reddit
Only outages I’ve had in the past few months were during storms when the power went out, spectrum would text about an outage. I was like well, it doesn’t really matter since my power is out… sorry you’re dealing with that though.
