Is i7 9700k a good cpu in 2022?

I'm trying to build a pc and got a i7 9700k but I know 10700k and 11700k are newer but i don't want to buy another motherboard so i don't know what to do... I'm focusing more on 1080p 240hz competitive gaming with a RTX 3060 Ti Gaming Pro, is a i7 9700k enough? Also from what I see the difference in the i7 9700k and 10700k in most games is by 2-3 fps and I don't find that a reason to upgrade

No I have this cpu and it runs newest games kinda bad because it doesn’t have hyper threading. So I’d your trying to 1440p it’s not worth it.

This is factually incorrect. Jarrod's Tech did a pretty comprehensive video comparing the i7's from 8700k to 12700k and the difference at 1440p is negligible. There is a difference in number of frames at 1080p but its only apparent in high fps games where the range is between 300 and 500 fps.
The conclusion appears to be that if your just gaming, the 9700k is more than suitable. If you rendering or the like, where you need to compute power, then the 12700k is going to be noticeably quicker.

I know this is kinda old to post on, but how would you rate the i7 9700k nowadays? I'm currently running that with an rtx3080 and getting pretty great frames in new games at 1440 resolution (60fps in helldiver's on ultra). Do you think It will be obsolete soon?

I'm also running a 9700k but with a 4080 super. I have no issues either. I might upgrade soon just so I don't have to upgrade again for a long time, but as of now I feel like I could run with it for another 2 years at least.

im still running a 9700k 2 years later with a 4080 super now. Still runs great for 99% of games. Smoothly runs the newest call of duty and other AAA games with 64 gigs of ram on 1440p not sure what you did that yours runs so poorly

Old post, but upgrading my 9700k to a ryzen 9 7900x in a week.
It overall the 9700k has been able to take anything I throw at it. I play elden ring and other titles on max settings with at least 80-100 fps stable with my 3090. Only upgrading for more cores to host stuff and run VDIs with RDP

Sadly I don't think it's enough for newer games like Elden Ring & future releases :(

Rund elden ring Max settings no issue with my 3090

I have an i7 9700k with an rtx 2070 and 64gb ddr4 3200mhz, and I have played elden ring in 2k all in ultra and it has been perfect, before speaking without knowledge, please better ask..
