Can any readers recommend low cost hobbies to do on the weekends?

So I have recently decided to completely quit drinking (shocking stuff for a Brit I know) and I want to keep myself busy so I don’t slip into old habits. I don’t have a car but I live in a big city. Does anybody have any recommendations for low cost hobbies that aren’t they gym, football or playing a games console? Ideally something I could do when the weather gets a bit nippier to.

Exploring, every city has its hidden parts and paved over rivers etc. Maybe go on a history tour to get going.

Baking bread and making different soups. Learning to make a new appetizer every week. Lego builds- can find used bricks for cheap. Learning to care for plants.

Reading. Libraries are free Learning. Again, libraries are free as are many online courses. Nature, such as bird watching or just learning about the wildlife around you. Puzzles. Painting / drawing/ art Learning a musical instrument or language Going for walks Learning about the night sky. There's a meteor shower tonight. DIY. There's always something needs looking at in a typical home. Writing. You can learn to write or just start and see what happens. There's loads and loads you could do. I can't wait to retire as I've so much I want to do instead of working.

Sitting down. You can do it outside when it's warm, and inside when it's cold. You can do it in your own home, other people's homes, public spaces, or if you're willing to pay just a little bit, even many private spaces.

Hiking is free, helps with your fitness and can still be done in winter with proper prep. Apart from petrol and maybe parking, it won't cost a penny. There are an increasing number of hiking clubs popping up and Facebook is a good place to start.

recommending hobbies is like recommending a drink, I don't know what you'll like. You say low cost but you might have been a carling drinker so I could recommend something bland and uninteresting. All you've said is you don't want to go to the gym, play football or play video games. Why not read books, go walking or volunteer somewhere.

With friends DnD, if you DM you can put as much effort into it as you wish for the cost of nothing. Warhammer - This does cost money but if you get a decent box and have a good local community outside of initial costs you can get a lot of mileage. Just don't buy random boxes you don't have time for. Run clubs/Hiking - great way to get out and meet people. If you like music I'd recommend picking up a cheap second hand instrument of your choosing and using YouTube tutorials to learn.
