Issues with MSI B650 Tomahawk and 7800XT

I am having some trouble with a new build. Here are my specs
AMD Ryzen 7800xd3
MSI B650 Tomahawk WIFI
XFX 7800XT
500GB Samsung SSD
ASUS ROG Strix 650w power supply
When I power on the PC i get a blank screen. No lights in the inside to indicate any issues. When I remove the graphics card and use the onboard then everything powers up fine and I get to windows.
I am on the latest BIOS on the motherboard.
Any ideas?

Hi guys seems I am on the same boat, same Mobo same cpu and same GPU has any of you tried the bios release from October?
SnooPets8513@reddit
u/nino2469 can you tell me what you did i have similar build and I'm about to return the GPU
tangster_kryptonite@reddit
I managed to resolve the issue. The problem lies with the MSI bios. You need to flash it back to the version from 11th of august 2023
SnooPets8513@reddit
so do you think it would not work if you got the latest bios
tangster_kryptonite@reddit
Definitely not. At least in my case
SnooPets8513@reddit
i just checked it out thank you so much. what am incredibly unlucky situation
tangster_kryptonite@reddit
No worries, glad I could help. Yeah, for some reason its only an issue with MSI b!650 boards and XFX cards. Definitely going asrocj with the next build
tangster_kryptonite@reddit
Did you end up fixing it?
Aleksanterinleivos@reddit
You are connecting your monitor to the GPU, right?
nino2469@reddit (OP)
yes but on boot I get blank screen. If I remove the card and plug into the onboard then I get to window with no issues/
Healthy_BrAd6254@reddit
power connectors on the GPU? GPU fully inserted in the slot?
nino2469@reddit (OP)
yep I have seated and reseated it, no lights on the graphics card indicating any power issues
Healthy_BrAd6254@reddit
did you try a different slot? does your GPU have a BIOS switch and can you try the other bios? do you have another GPU to try?
nino2469@reddit (OP)
I will try the other slot. I have been using pci_e1 but will try pci_e2. I do have an older card I can try as well
nino2469@reddit (OP)
Ok the pci_e2 slot works. Is the other slot bad?
Healthy_BrAd6254@reddit
Are you sure it was inserted properly?
Maybe check the GPU slot contacts if they're all undamaged.
Could you maybe go into the bios with the old card, limit the first slot to 4 lanes, then try your new GPU in the first slot with 4 lanes instead of 16.
nino2469@reddit (OP)
I put the most pressure I can without risking damaging anything. Like I said the 7800 works fine in the other slot and my old card works in both. I will look up how to limit the lanes like you mentioned. Appreciate the help here.
Healthy_BrAd6254@reddit
It's not about pressure (the pins are on the sides, so pushing stronger won't give you better contact). I just thought maybe it's not connecting properly on one end of the slot. But anyway, try limiting the lanes on the slot
nino2469@reddit (OP)
no luck changing the lanes. I am going to contact MSI. I can at least use it in the second slot but would like to know why one card works in the first slot but the other doesnt.
Healthy_BrAd6254@reddit
That's weird. Since your old GPU works fine in the first slot, it's probably something wrong with your new GPU. But why it would work in the bottom slot but not in the first slot despite using few lanes (which should effectively make it the same as the bottom slot) is weird.
nino2469@reddit (OP)
the gpu works fine in my old pc. I tested it as well
zockonto@reddit
Were you able to solve the problem? I am having the same issue as you.
My Specs: AMD Ryzen 7 7700x; XFX 7800XT (same as your's); Be Quiet 850W PSU; MSI B650 Gaming Plus Wifi
When I turn on my PC, the white DEBUG LED for VGA comes on, the BIOS does not boot, but all Fans are spinning. When I remove my GPU, everything works perfectly fine. The BIOS is booting and there are no errors.
My GPU works in another PC wihtout problems. And another GPU works in my PC, as well. So somehow, GPU and Motherboard are both okay. There must be a problem in the combination of motherboard and GPU.
I've been trying to solve the problem for the last three days, trying almost everyhting, but nothing worked out.
Do you know something?
nino2469@reddit (OP)
I moved my gpu to the bottom slot and it works. Never solved why it won’t work in the top slot. Emailed MSI and they told me to get with XFX and see if they had a vbios update
zockonto@reddit
Well, if it works, it‘s fine. Unfortunately, this won‘t work for me. My bottom slot is located too close to the Power Supply, so that my GPU doesn‘t fit there. And XFX could not help you either? I am wondering if my PC would work with a 7800xt from another manufacturer (Sapphire, AsRock, etc.)
nino2469@reddit (OP)
I sent a support request and never heard back from XFX. They didn’t list any bios on their website either
toxichashbang@reddit
Do you have any anti sag bars between the mobo and the card? After doing tons of troubleshooting like you did, I found out my card was a hair short of being fully in despite the pcie slot clicking in.
Healthy_BrAd6254@reddit
So you basically proved that both the GPU and motherboard work fine. Something's off.
Can you check the PCIe connections (you can see that in hwinfo64) on both your new PC with your old GPU (also what GPU is it?) and your old PC with your new GPU? Maybe one of those is not how it should be.
