Has Adam and Jamie ever interacted since MythBusters ended?

I know they weren't really friends, but they were obviously acquaintances, and knew each other long before MythBusters started. But does anyone know if they still keep in contact with each other in some form?
While doubtful, I would love to see them work on a new project together in the future.
antsam9@reddit
I'm pretty sure they met up at Grant's funeral.
xghostwalkingx@reddit
Late to this thread but recently binged mythbusters again and I darn near sobbed every time I saw Grant. So sad
one80oneday@reddit
Rip
jedidoesit@reddit
I know I'm probably years behind but this is the first time I'm hearing this about Grant. He was young too wasn't he?
Shmeatenforcement@reddit
Nobody is too young to die.
panatale1@reddit
Nobody is too young to die, but people can die too young with so much left ahead of them
Shmeatenforcement@reddit
That’s the tragedy, really. You can’t ever have lived long enough for those who love you, but you can’t LIVE enough for those that don’t know you but for the statistic.
panatale1@reddit
I'd argue that you absolutely can live long enough for the people who know and love you. My grandmother's aunt lived to the age of 100. She was ready when the time came, and we all basically said, "she's had a good long life, she's earned her rest"
jedidoesit@reddit
That's not what I was talking about. It's not impossible and I didn't suggest that. It's more unusual and often involves something more dramatic so that's how I lead with my question.
I don't know who you think really feels like you can't die when you're young.

Brain aneurysm, 49, can happen any age, I think he was engaged as well
jedidoesit@reddit
Thank you. Sad but I appreciate knowing. 🙏🏻😔
CordeCosumnes@reddit
While young, that actually made him older than me, i would never have guessed that. The 3 seemed like kids to me on Myth
OliviaElevenDunham@reddit
Still sad about his death.

I feel like people miss that you can be friendly without being friends. Like, it's obvious that they respect each other's abilities, got along well enough to film the show even if their personalities and outlooks clashed occasionally, and that they each brought something to the team that the other couldn't. It's also obvious that they are very different people.
I can totally picture them being friendly at work, working well together and making chitchat over coffee but not being friends. That word, too, can take on more serious meaning for some people as they get older....the category of people who qualify gets narrower.
dangforgotmyaccount@reddit
I think it has to do with dynamic within the show. Usually when you have a group that works well together, they just have a good dynamic in general, and it feels like that’s how it would be away from the show as well. Think the three wisemen on Top Gear. A lot of it I guess is because TV production seems and feels to the consumer, a lot more personal than maybe just an office job. It can be really damn obvious when hosts like each other and do the show for the fun of it, or don’t and just do it for the money. The Mythbusters cast seems to have fallen into the former, though without the post show dynamic that is usual for that type.
dathomar@reddit
When I was in college, I worked at a grocery store. There was this girl that worked there and we're did not like each other. We weren't assholes or anything, we just didn't care for each other. If we were both taking the same bus, we could make chitchat, but I would have rejected any attempt to hang out with her. She felt the same way.
We were always scheduled together, though, because we worked really well together. Our whole section ran a lot more smoothly when we were the two people working. I totally get how you can work really well with someone, then just be like, "Well, that's over and I don't care if I ever see that person again."
randomnamejennerator@reddit
Jamie was in some early Tested videos.
stgnet@reddit
Early on it was Adam & Jamie's Tested. Apparently they had both invested in tested? Then not long later the Jamie part was dropped and it became just Adam. All the videos are still on the tested channel, if you scroll back far enough in time.
Fun_Indication_6378@reddit
Or just sort videos accordingly and safe all those precious seconda.
pdjudd@reddit
Jamie was involved up until the show ended and once that happened, he quit doing it and wanted nothing to do with it anymore.
deadinthefuture@reddit
Yeah, Jamie doesn’t seem like a “craves the limelight” kind of guy
comics0026@reddit
Yeah, Adam said Jamie was just tired of being in front of the camera and wanted to go back to behind the scenes stuff, so he sold his ownership to Adam and now focuses on M5
NoNefariousness3942@reddit
I read Jamie was teaching in Finland a little while back, he probably owns m5 still but from what I remember m5 has quit all special effects ventures and now deals with private R and D contracts.
pdjudd@reddit
I’m thinking that had something to do with the show ending - the rating were declining and they weren’t going to be offered nearly as much as before so that was that.
The_mingthing@reddit
Mythbusters was still going at that point.
msallied79@reddit
I love a non-porous work-life boundary. I get along with all my coworkers. I genuinely enjoy working with many of them and even look forward to working with them.
But do I want to see them outside work? No. Those are my "work people." The compartments don't mix.
I understand and value this so much more in my 40s than I might have in my 20s.
UnspeakablePudding@reddit
I don't talk to 95% of my former coworkers. Not out of any malice or dislike either, but once that work relationship ends you don't have much in common anymore. Why would Adam and Jamie be any different?
bakermonitor1932@reddit
Wasn't the Corning glass ads after the last season.
Silent_Owl_6117@reddit
I saw them on their last tour together and they let slip that Jamie was going to be doing some R&D work for the Nacy, so I'm not sure how much free time he would have.
DidijustDidthat@reddit
Well, now idnkove to hear more about this.. but also love that it might be ~~top~~ somewhat secret
CornCobMcGee@reddit
It's nothing super crazy, he's just the inter-species liason for the Navy's research into training attack walruses
Middcore@reddit
Not to be confused with Operation Infinite Walrus, which was the one that used Bill Dauterive as a placebo test subject.
TheDeadlySpaceman@reddit
The Billdozer
OliviaElevenDunham@reddit
Can totally see that happening.
Silent_Owl_6117@reddit
Adam was the one who mentioned it, obviously, and he implied it was secretive.
comics0026@reddit
If Adam said it, there's a 50/50 chance he was pulling the audience's leg
Silent_Owl_6117@reddit
Well, I said, obviously, because Jamie isn't one to talk about his personal life. And Adam seemed pretty serious about it, it was during the audience Q&A, I mean, there's no way I could be 100% certain, but it seems like a likely future for him. Especially since there has been little said/seen of him since the shows ending.
IRMacGuyver@reddit
I will never understand why Jamie would invite Adam in to the show if they got along so poorly. I just don't buy that they weren't friends. Something had to have happened and I suspect that it was the fact the show ran out of content and they were just doing movie stunts.
antsam9@reddit
Jamie said he knew Adam has a camera friendly personality and that was something that he (Jamie) lacked.
IRMacGuyver@reddit
That doesn't change my opinion. I think something happened further along the line that made them dislike each other more.
pdjudd@reddit
Well it's factually wrong. We have material produced around season two where they said they were different persons and there were a ton of disagreements and fighting early on.
IRMacGuyver@reddit
People fight with their friends all the time. They still go out to dinner together. Your "fact" doesn't really affect what I said.
NoNefariousness3942@reddit
Have you had 1 on 1 dinners with everyone youve worked with? I havent. There are professional relationships that work really well that dont evolve into deep friendships.
IRMacGuyver@reddit
Everyone I've worked with for more than a year. Yes.
quelana-26@reddit
They're pointing to facts, you have a feeling. Which one wins?
IRMacGuyver@reddit
Except it wasn't an actual fact that's why I put it in quotes.
awesome_pinay_noses@reddit
Maybe it was not his decision. It was not his show, the show belongs to Discovery.
Same thing happened with Always sunny. The gang did not want Danny DeVido at first but they were given an ultimatum.
IRMacGuyver@reddit
They've repeatedly talked about how Jamie brought Adam in because he didn't think he could carry the show by himself and thought Adam would be good in front of the camera.
pdjudd@reddit
Indeed. Jamie knew Adam and knew he had on camera experience - Adam also worked for Jamie before so he asked him to audition.
IRMacGuyver@reddit
Adam made it sound less like an audition and more like a recruitment.
ElGuano@reddit
It can be both…. And often is.
MassiveMissclicks@reddit
I never really got the impression that they got along poorly, they argued in a pretty heated manner from time to time, but on such tight schedules I would think that is quite common between two slightly stubborn people.
I always thought they saw themselves as colleagues and not much more, neither getting along very well, nor very poorly. I also never heard Adam state that there was any bad blood between them. I think everyone knows a kind of person from work they can be around and work well together with but would never consider inviting into their home.
IRMacGuyver@reddit
And yet they never went out to dinner together or see each other now that the show is over.
Ambitious_Call_3341@reddit
Because of respected and accepted talent.
0xB-1804@reddit
I believe Adam has mentioned in his Tested videos that he & Jamie get together for an annual (?) dinner. It's never sounded like more collaboration is likely, though.
thelastedji@reddit
They were coworkers and professional colleagues. I'm sure they've at least gotten each other's opinions on engineering projects etc.
But I don't see any reasons that their interactions should be made public.
The fact that they worked together so well despite their contrasting styles is why I have a huge amount of respect for them. I never thought that they needed to be friends. If anything, it shows the benefit of cooperation over conflict when working with others
javanperl@reddit
Adam spoke at a conference that I attended. I recall him stating that Jamie was a good business partner, but in all the time they worked together they never had a single dinner together. So, I think they worked well together, but it sounded like they didn’t have any relationship outside of work.
pdjudd@reddit
Adam has mentioned that he believes that Jamie just doesn’t have friendships the same way that most other people do so they never felt a need to be friends.
Adam says that he trusts Jamie totally and values their working relationship for the show but they just are too different.
redisforever@reddit
I have coworkers like that. They're great to work with. I have zero interest in them socially. We get along, we work together very well, and then we both go home and have our own lives.
Middcore@reddit
I think this is, ideally, most co-worker relationships for most people. Like, if you work with people you are cool with while you're at work, and then you go your separate ways and never interact after you punch out, that's all you can ask for. Most people are not friends with their co-workers outside of work; even spending time together off the clock in some sort of "mandatory fun" company outing/party situation (or in countries where going out drinking with your colleagues is an expected thing) doesn't actually make them you friends.
Corey307@reddit
It seems like young people are more likely to form friendships that extend outside of work. About two years ago we had two classes of new hires coming in around the same time and four of them are quite close. Two even started dating which is nice. The older coworkers mostly don’t hang out outside work. I might if they need help with something, I’d help quite a few of them move since I’ve got a truck or if they went through a personal tragedy I would try to be there for them, but just going out for drinks? Doesn’t really happen.
pdjudd@reddit
Yea, I don't hang out with my co-workers outside of work. The most I do is go to happy hour for employees that are leaving the company but I would very rarely want to hang out with co-workers outside of work - like if someone is inviting co-wokers to a barbeque or something very unique.
toxicatedscientist@reddit
There's one guy in our friend group who keeps making friends with his coworkers on that social level. I'm just waiting for one of them to professionally screw him over
SGTWhiteKY@reddit
Savage mentioned in his book that they work really well together. That despite not being “friends” they would likely work on more things in the future for that reason.
FunArtichoke6167@reddit
They still have sex regularly, but it’s loveless and mechanical. There is no kissing. That sort of passion has been lost to time.
kermuffl3@reddit
How could anyone lose their passion with that walrus stache?!!
92xSaabaru@reddit
Adam ran into Jamie at the airport once and took a photo with him while boarding. That's the only interaction I can remember seeing on social media.
Tiefschlag@reddit
Yes, and I can remember the look on Jamies face. "Pissed off" doesn't even begin to describe it.
BookWormPerson@reddit
That doesn't look pissed off to me.
It looks just like his default face.

Oh I know, lol. I'm not the one who said he looked pissed.

I'm pretty sure that's just what a smile looks like on Jamie Hyneman

That's what just about anyone looks like after getting through boarding Southwest at SFO.
Tiefschlag@reddit
Adam posted it on fb, I think. Not sure if its still there.
Smallville1938@reddit
I saw those pictures, and I don't get where you're getting pissed off from. There's a couple of different ones, and in all of them, he just looks like Jamie as I've ever seen him, just in different clothes. The 3rd link it to a separate time since the show they were with each other. https://images.app.goo.gl/E6gC9be2PedxeEADA https://images.app.goo.gl/4AYNhmaqEZQ1K3Hv5 https://images.app.goo.gl/FeUVMsEvwrNqvpM79
Tiefschlag@reddit
That was not the one I meant. The one I saw was a selfie Adam made while on the bus to the plane. It was taken a while after Mythbusters stopped.
Smallville1938@reddit
The caption in this link makes it appear that they didn't notice each other until they were in line at the airport. https://images.app.goo.gl/LmxWKSKAePWHaKXW9
Tiefschlag@reddit
The one I was refereing to was the one with the bald guy. Maybe I misinterpreted it, but Jamie looks pissed.
pdjudd@reddit
I recall he said that they didn’t even talk to each other then as it was a chance encounter. He also says he doubts that they will ever work together as they have no reason to do it with Mythbusters having ended.
Unclebatman1138@reddit
I was really thrown for a loop when I found out Penn and Teller are just work friends as well. They clock in, rehearse and perform together, but then go their separate ways after work til it's time to come back in. By the time I read that I'd spent decades assuming they were besties.
SeveredExpanse@reddit
Keeping up with the people you worked with a decade ago
spongeboy1985@reddit
They both happened to have separate meeting in LA so both of the took round trip flights from SF to LA. They ended up on both flights together. Adam rook a couple of pictures because he thought it was funny

The last I heard about Jamie, he was working on designing a remote controlled fire fighting tank made from an old Armored Personnel Carrier.
His Wikipedia page pretty much explains everything: .https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Hyneman

Also that "Glass Age" commercial

That Nvidia thing was in 2009, during MythBusters' run.
RedSun-FanEditor@reddit
Adam has been quite clear that their relationship was purely professional and that they were two totally different kinds of people who didn't get along with each other or even like each other from the get go. Adam has been asked numerous times at conventions whether he speaks to Jamie and if he ever thought they would work together again in the foreseeable future and Adam's response was a emphatically "No."
Celluloid_Dreamer89@reddit
It almost ruined mythbusters for me when i found out they weren’t friends outside the show. I was disappointed. Still one of my favourite shows though.
Garrett4Real@reddit
It ruined me as a kid to find out they weren’t friends and didn’t hang out- but now as an adult in my late 20s? I completely get it- there’s lots of people at my career that I respect the heck out of and I’ve worked really hard with, but I want nothing to do with them outside of work. It’s nothing personal at all, I get it.
pdjudd@reddit
I mean it’s really obvious in the show that they are very different types of people - they even talked about it in the earlier days in one of the specials. They also have different interests in real life.
Jamie never came off as a person that liked to be on camera and was always the person that went on his own to do his own things.
thelastedji@reddit
They were coworkers and professional colleagues. I'm sure they've at least gotten each other's opinions on engineering projects etc.
But I don't see any reasons that their interactions should be made public.
