Maybe from the company that keeps apples in storage? I know the apples are stored for ages sometimes before they arrive at shop?

Solid bowl or wire bowl with more airflow?

Wire ones work well, and you can get them with a banana hanger. Very compact and very few problems with mould.

I keep bananas and citrus separate from each other and also from other fruits. This has made a big difference in how long everything lasts. I keep apples in the fridge now, they last forever. But I like them cold and crisp, if you don't this is not helpful advice.

How often do you clean it?

Yeah, when you discover a mouldy apple make sure you wash the bowl otherwise you're leaving behind mould spores that could be picked up by the next apple placed there.

Do you get them from Aldi or Lidl? Most of their fresh produce is shocking.

I don't know why but large tomatoes also do this. Had to throw mine the other day because of it

Moisture can be one reason. Are you rinsing them?
