When starting my car should I leave the key in the on position to let fuel prime for a few seconds?

Or does this not matter? 2005 Honda civic.
Ole_kindeyes@reddit
That’s not how it works brother. Coincidentally you do do that for diesel cars/trucks in cold weather but for another reason entirely lol
nickrichard999@reddit (OP)
So it literally doesn’t matter at all for gasoline cars. I can just start it and go right
Ole_kindeyes@reddit
I would let the car idle for a minute or two after starting it up but before driving off, some say it’s better for a cars longevity, I don’t have facts at hand to prove it tbh
nickrichard999@reddit (OP)
Yea lots of people say cars can go as soon as they start up and they have proven facts for it but my guts don’t trust it I wait a few moment before going to make sure the oil is circulating
Ole_kindeyes@reddit
That’s…… also not how it works. But good on you mate
nickrichard999@reddit (OP)
Read what I said bud
Ole_kindeyes@reddit
Don’t act like you know anything about cars when you’re the one asking about priming the engines like a toddler playing spaceship… BUD lmao
nickrichard999@reddit (OP)
I know more than you and ur father ever will
Ole_kindeyes@reddit
Damn that’s crazy cause within the last 24 hours you were asking me for advice 😂😂 you need a nap lil bro have a seat
nickrichard999@reddit (OP)
It’s 2024 bud, cars are fuel injected. It’s not the 1900s where cars had carburetors and you had to let it warm up otherwise car would stall out or run very poor. We have billions of sensors in our engines nowadays buddy.
Ole_kindeyes@reddit
FUEL injectors. Not oil injectors BUDDY lmao go prime the engines for take off little man, before mommy brings you your pb&j with the crust cut off and you have to stop playing pretend.
nickrichard999@reddit (OP)
Buddy you brought up waiting 1 to 2 minutes after start up. This is a whole new topic from fuel priming dumbass. All I said was that isn’t necessary because modern engine oils lubricate the entire engine within seconds, so you can quite drive off right after you start. Learn to read before going crazy bud.
Ole_kindeyes@reddit
Oh so you can’t read or you’re dumb. Got it. I’m sure mommy’s got your snackies right about now so why don’t you run along, if you’re learning to read I used to love “go to bed Fred” and “no David” so I suggest your mom read those to you before nap time, you’re getting cranky little man :)
nickrichard999@reddit (OP)
Nice one! Creating fake Reddit accounts to downvote. 🤣🤣👏🏽👏🏽
Ole_kindeyes@reddit
Now that’s pathetic bud. You can even fathom people disagreeing with you LMAO I’m on mobile I can’t even do that bucko 😂 I smell some projection on you
CommieCuller@reddit
Of your car is old enough to have a carburetor and it’s not been driven in a while, then yes, but if it’s fuel injected and not 40 years old, probably no.
walkawaysux@reddit
Unless it’s a diesel and it’s cold outside don’t do it
patterson489@reddit
If you just changed the fuel filter on your diesel truck, yes.
In your car? No.
Racer-X-@reddit
Generally no because it's not supposed to matter.
However, if you have a file pressure regulator leak bleeding pressure down the return pipe, making it hard to start after it has been parked for a few hours or longer, then cycling the key for a few seconds, sometimes a few times, can help with the hard starting issue. If it works, you really need to get the actual issue addressed and repaired.
So only if it's difficult to start after being parked, and if that helps, get the real issue fixed.
Hope that helps.
WaterIsGolden@reddit
Pressure should be maintained at the fuel rail so you shouldn't need to wait. If you think about it pushbutton starts don't have a delay to wait for the fuel pump to cycle.
op3l@reddit
Don't matter. Straight to ignition.
