Try to tell people on twitter you pirate Nintendo games and there will be literally a swarm of people tagging Nintendo and begging them to unleash the righteous fire on you through the court.
Seriously? I thought pirating Nintendo games was actually morally praiseworthy. Those fucks are such dicks about IP they'll sue you over games that are basically impossible to find anymore.
Creates problems like how Gameboy Pokemon cartridges have increased in value due to (basically artificial) scarcity.
The only reaction i see people having is in countries where that shit can get your ass fined pretty easily if you don't hide your tracks
Beyond that? I think games are actually just pirated less often. They are newer and at the same time probably harder to pirate than an audio file or a video, so a person pirating games is gonna look more "out of the norm" than someone who pirates shows
The problem here is that you assume everyone else has the same relatively privileged social situation you do, where I'm from a new AAA game is a tenth of your monthly salary, disposable income that literally no one has cause most of us are already making a deficit every month.
i get ur point, but he's not asking questions abt the item to the original creators of said item or something, hes asking questions to other users whose experience isnt affected in any way at all by whether he pirated it or not. ig they might be jealous that he got it for free and they paid for it, but otherwise its just projecting morality?
$80-100 in Canada. 2 videogames are priced at the same price as an entire year worth of Netflix or some other streaming service. I pirate, then if the game is good? I pay. But most are just meh so I don't.
Never said it was me who posted that, just showed that things like that happen because the comment above me said the opposite, try to follow the conversation next time
I also never said anything like that, I was extrapolating, the quote doesn't depict you. Otherwise I would've wrote something like "why you care about this shit". Try reading context next time.
if a movie is worth pirating it's probably made by a big company. there are that many indie movies
I pirate music
it kinda sucks if you're pirating a small creator, but music also doesn't take as much effort usually
I pirate software
I've noticed that most small useful software is either free with patreon supports or the price is so small it doesn't really make a difference. and of course you can pirate expensive ass software from bad companies.
As creator of said game: You should support indies if you can, but culture shouldn't exist only for those who can afford it. ULTRAKILL wouldn't exist if I hadn't had easy access to movies, music and games growing up. If you don't have money, you can support via word of mouth.
Did it with Teardown, i wanted to try it since the hype was so high, so i pirated it, i actually liked it enough to decide the dev deserved support and bought it, but there's a lot of indie games i pirated and never bought because they were not worth it
It's very simple, just pirate everything you can, and then if you like the game and want to support the devs so they can make more games then you buy it on steam, it really doesn't have to be complicated.
I pretty much view it in a "can i fit this game in budget this month" and if the answer is no, i torrent it and buy it later on if its good. Although I will admit there is companies I don't want to financially support that im just never going to buy their games and the 500$dlc.
Essentially, it's either I don't try the game, or i torrent it and maybe buy it.
I don’t have the kind of money to buy every game I might like. Try it first, if it runs well on my pc, it’s fun, and doesn’t have predatory sales tactics, I’ll buy it
It really doesn't depend, coming from someone that mostly buys games. I always think its funny when companies say "we lost a quadrillion dollars due to piracy this year!" Like the people that pirate their stuff will buy it if they can't pirate it.
If i can't watch a movie illegally, i ain't subbing to a shitty streaming service. I just ain't watching it. One way or another, they aren't getting money from me
Same with any other media, vidya included. If someone wants to pirate a game but can't, there is a good 95% chance they still won't buy it.
"Oh man i can't get entertainment for free? I will definitely buy it now! It's not like there is a constant barrage of free, non piracy entertainment on the internet otherwise"
ah, personally I buy my games on steam. Its easy and convenient. I barely give a shit about tv and movies though, hell I only play games like once a month anymore. Haven't had cable in probably 15 years, canceled netflix in like 2014. Mostly read in my spare time.
So I pirate tv and movie shows I might want to watch, add them to plex and still never get around to watching 90% of them. The only thing I pirate and use regularly is music lol
To be fair I think it's because there are pirates who pirate because they "have to" and those that do it because they "can". I don't know what the split is between the two but there absolutely are people who would end up buying if they can't pirate.
Yeah, personally I buy my games on steam. Its easy and convenient. I barely give a shit about tv and movies though, hell I only play games like once a month anymore. Haven't had cable in probably 15 years, canceled netflix in like 2014. Mostly read in my spare time.

Regardless of what it is that you pirate you are stealing money from the person created the thibg you're pirateing. The exception is if the creator is dead
Using something somene has made without their permission is basically stealing and lying to person. But if you constantly consume some sort of content and don't pay a dime for it you are a hypocrite. Nothing in this world is one way, so either contribute or fuck off. Quite simple isn't it?
The only difference I can see is that pirating indie art is more fucked up than pirating art distributed by billion dollar companies, and games are more likely to be indie.

But I genuinely don't care what you pirate, nearer to a victimless crime than shit most people do on a regular basis.
yep, and honestly I've pirated games since I was a kid.. but indie and most of all with pricey AAA games. But these were always games I had a gut feeling I would regret buying.
80% of the time I was right, but 20% of the time it's a title I would have otherwise snubbed I eventually bought on a steam sale.
Sir i am Indian game many rupee so I pirate game I don't even have toilet I poo on the road friend Rashi ran over by truck yesterday during poo Sir I miss Rashi how can I gang grape alone now? Sir give me 100 American dollar in apple card.
I pirate/emulate games for convenience. I own three copies of Mario Kart Wii, two scratched and one still working. I have a functioning Wii from my childhood, controllers, and the ability to do Homebrew. I would still rather open up Dolphin and launch the game from one system than to deal with the issues of a nearly two-decade old console.
It's all because the only figure who gives the logic behind pirating is Gabe Newell, and he's from video games industry.
“One thing that we have learned is that piracy is not a pricing issue. It’s a service issue,” explained Newell during his time on stage at the Washington Technology Industry Association's (WTIA) Tech NW conference. “The easiest way to stop piracy is not by putting antipiracy technology to work. It’s by giving those people a service that’s better than what they’re receiving from the pirates.”
Tell me, does any well known figure from musics, movies, and apps says same thing before him?
i literally have no issues with piracy but if you're one of those people who brags about it and thinks they're some revolutionary fighting against big corpos then you probably smell really bad
Probably the price difference and the fact that the first three are easier done in bulk than games, which can also be mass pirated but that doesn't happen as much since they take much more time to experience (especially compared to music)
I think also because musicians and movies have alternate sources of income.
A movie gets released in theatres first. And they don't exactly rely on audience footfall as much as distributors so they aren't exactly fighting at the end customer zone. A musician can make money from Spotify or tours, YouTube and whatnot. A software has corporations that will pay for them to use to avoid legal issues.
Video games have one revenue source. People buying them. If they are pirated they have no other way of making money.
ya dude im seething so intensely i had to use the breathing and journal exercises i learned about in my emotional control courses i was required to take because of how mad i am all the time i went for a promotion and they were like dude you are way too mad learn to control your madness i was like ok ill go get some tools and learn how to manage it all better so thats what i did bro thats what i did you see common misconception is anger management doesnt make you not mad anymore it just makes it so can manage your madness more when it comes up like right now dude right now you made me so mad bro but its actually pretty fine because i just popped out my journo and wrote 'reddit made me mad today' and then breathed in for 4 seconds and held it for 1 second then breathed out for 6 seconds bro its really not that hard
Doesn't depend on the medium, it depends on the other factors at play.
Are you able to comfortably afford it?
No - Go ahead.
Yes -
Then has the product been produced by a big company or an indie team, is it fully-realized and well polished or a piece of slob, and is the pricing reasonable?
I pirate movies because I hate going to the cinema, yet I watch them so rarely it doesn't warrant a subscription
I no longer pirate music because Spotify was like 10$ a year
I pirate software because most companies don't even sell it anymore, it's all subscription garbage (looking at you, Adobe)
I don't pirate games because I just stopped picking up new titles, I'd rather beat Satisfactory/Modded Fallout/Modded Minecraft one more time instead of picking up new AAA slop
In general when you pirate movies the money is stolen from big studios not the people who actually need it. It you pirate a small indie game that could make a difference for the developer. (I think). I also feel more willing to give money to a small scale game developer than to disney.
Depends, real gamers don't piss on real game devs, for the same reason you don't shit in your fridge. When they go for DEI shit they instantly become fair game but the end product is not worth pirating anyway
Movies, unless indie, are made by large companies owned by the same guys all over with an agenda to push. I'd pirate them but they're all woke rubbish.
Music is published by them too. If you pitate it, then like it and go to the artists' concert, where they can actually make money, you're helping the artists more than not buying and not listening at all.
Software is paid by corporate/business uses and purposes. Most of it is free anyway, or not a big deal to use personally.
Vidya, save for woke EA/Sweet Baby cancer with ugly characters/etc. which is never worth buying let alone pirating, is where you can give your money to the people who actually worked on them and keep an industry going because they do them for (you), not for businesses.
Pirating music from small artists doesn't really mean much nowadays. Getting a fan who will listen to their music and potentially buy merch or show tickets in the future is WAY more valuable than the tiny amount of money that Spotify/apple music would give them. Hopefully that will change in time since Tidal is showing that it's possible to be profitable while still giving artists a fair cut.
For movies I don’t have an opinion. For music, these copyright laws are excessive, for software, they’re often extremely overpriced, and for video games, I’m perfectly fine with using a crack as a demo, then paying for the game if I find it worth it.
Because a lot of game studios are extremely entitled and are trying to build parasocial relationships with their customers while pushing the hurdles of the industry on the consumer to justify the bad products or decisions that are being made more frequently than ever.
I didn't realize I thought this way until I saw this post, good self-reflection.
I guess my reasoning is that most consumption worthy movies, music, and software is over-produced and over-priced slop from shitty millionaires/companies (Looking at Marvel movies or Adobe's recent software fiasco) while games in the mainstream are typically from indie devs or likewise smaller studios that put a lot of love into their creations.
That aside, I tend to have more respect for video games because they are a culmination of many art mediums put together.
Most people I talked to dont act this way. They either go all the way or dont. As for the latter, most normies are scared of LE VIRUSES, like the boogeyman of piracy

Pirate game > oh this game is good > buy game
Even with outer wilds i pirated it, finished it. > wow this game is pretty good > buy game on steam + dlc > never touch the game on steam
Kyno50@reddit
I generally don't care what others do
Karpsten@reddit
Doesn't depend on the medium, it depends on the other factors at play.
Are you able to comfortably afford it? No - Go ahead. Yes -
Then has the product been produced by a big company or an indie team, is it fully-realized and well polished or a piece of slob, and is the pricing reasonable?
Niswear85@reddit
I pirate movies because I hate going to the cinema, yet I watch them so rarely it doesn't warrant a subscription
I no longer pirate music because Spotify was like 10$ a year
I pirate software because most companies don't even sell it anymore, it's all subscription garbage (looking at you, Adobe)
I don't pirate games because I just stopped picking up new titles, I'd rather beat Satisfactory/Modded Fallout/Modded Minecraft one more time instead of picking up new AAA slop
rayquan36@reddit
Pirating video games steals money straight out of Lord Gaben's pockets.
HtsAq@reddit
In general when you pirate movies the money is stolen from big studios not the people who actually need it. It you pirate a small indie game that could make a difference for the developer. (I think). I also feel more willing to give money to a small scale game developer than to disney.
littlemissmoxie@reddit
Had a coworker once that refused my offer of pirated movies lol said it was morally wrong.
Beating a random mouse to death then dissecting it was A-OK for them though.
EvensenFM@reddit
You wouldn't download A CAR...
Zealousideal-Bus-526@reddit
Pirate software no way
Fun_Network312@reddit
Depends, real gamers don't piss on real game devs, for the same reason you don't shit in your fridge. When they go for DEI shit they instantly become fair game but the end product is not worth pirating anyway
already_taken-chan@reddit
The others usually require subscription based payments while a lot of games are just you pay once and you get the game.
A_for_Anonymous@reddit
Key_Catch7249@reddit
Pirating in general sucks tho.
I only do it when a movie or show is not available on any of the several streaming services I have access to.
MrEpicGamerMan@reddit
Pirating music from small artists doesn't really mean much nowadays. Getting a fan who will listen to their music and potentially buy merch or show tickets in the future is WAY more valuable than the tiny amount of money that Spotify/apple music would give them. Hopefully that will change in time since Tidal is showing that it's possible to be profitable while still giving artists a fair cut.
56Bot@reddit
For movies I don’t have an opinion. For music, these copyright laws are excessive, for software, they’re often extremely overpriced, and for video games, I’m perfectly fine with using a crack as a demo, then paying for the game if I find it worth it.
Salaino0606@reddit
I buy games these days, cant go through the trouble of torrent. Used to pirate them all the time as a kid tho. Everything else i still pirate lol
InstrumentalCore@reddit
Because a lot of game studios are extremely entitled and are trying to build parasocial relationships with their customers while pushing the hurdles of the industry on the consumer to justify the bad products or decisions that are being made more frequently than ever.
0oozymandias@reddit
I didn't realize I thought this way until I saw this post, good self-reflection.
I guess my reasoning is that most consumption worthy movies, music, and software is over-produced and over-priced slop from shitty millionaires/companies (Looking at Marvel movies or Adobe's recent software fiasco) while games in the mainstream are typically from indie devs or likewise smaller studios that put a lot of love into their creations.
That aside, I tend to have more respect for video games because they are a culmination of many art mediums put together.
durashka228@reddit
i was pirating everything until i become insane and paranoid
WolfieTooting@reddit
Your bathroom windows need cleaning I can barely see through them.

anon saw a thing happen one time and has now decided that it happens all the time everywhere
PackageNo6084@reddit
Pirating Ubisoft games is morally correct anyway
Crush_Un_Crull@reddit
Maybe thats because making a game involves all those three. So youre hitting 3 different groups with that statement. Bigger ocean, bigger fish attack
Hisgenart@reddit
Most people I talked to dont act this way. They either go all the way or dont. As for the latter, most normies are scared of LE VIRUSES, like the boogeyman of piracy
Icy_Magician_9372@reddit
I don't think I've gotten a virus from pirating since I was downloading WAREZ on dial up.
emjay84@reddit
Anon never heard of malware hidden in pirated games
Swacomo@reddit
Omg pirate software it's the funy guy on the shorts
