Is it true that Americans shower every day?

Why? Even during winter? Even in heavily air conditioned areas? Even without daily physical activity? Isn’t that waste of water?
Tchexxum@reddit
Don’t most countries, whose people can afford a device to use Reddit on, do this. Am I being ignorant.
OhThrowed@reddit
Eh, this OP also thinks Americans don't eat pork, hate snails and only have parrots as pet birds.
Zebracak3s@reddit
To be fair he did say the main bird pet and if you tell me you have a pet bird I'm going to assume you have a parrot.
KathyA11@reddit
I have three -- Timneh African Grey, Goffin Cockatoo (who both hatched on the same day in 2004 in two different states, and were purchased two months apart), and a Pacific Parrotlet. The Grey runs the house.
HotPinkHabit@reddit
Funny, I would think parakeet or cockatiel. Tbf, both pretty much little parroty things.
Zebracak3s@reddit
They are both parrots.
HotPinkHabit@reddit
Oh. Duh. Okay, this is the second thing I’ve been stupefyingly dumb about on Reddit tonight.
rolyfuckingdiscopoly@reddit
We hate snails?????!!! That’s… I’m offended. 🐌
Mysteryman64@reddit
You haven't tried to grow lettuce then.
"Oh, you eat my crops? How about I fucking eat you?"
rolyfuckingdiscopoly@reddit
Ooo I didn’t know that. I was planning to grow lettuce this year, but we went straight from frost warnings to 105F, so all my gardening was a little… weird this year haha.
If I see bite marks on my lettuce next year, I’ll know who to shake my fist at!
Mysteryman64@reddit
In all fairness, it could also be slugs. Both of them are bastards who eat all my leafy greens.
rolyfuckingdiscopoly@reddit
As an aside, I think it’s so cute that there are slugs AND snails. They’re the same guy but one of them made a spiral house.
Less cute that they eat your crops! And with their freaky lil spiral mouths too! Rude.
We have deer and bears where I live, and it’s ALMOST cute that they’re like “omg! So nice of you to put these tomatoes and sunflowers right here for me all perfectly ripe!! Omnomnom”. Just oblivious to the fact that I too would like some of my tomatoes 😂
GF_baker_2024@reddit
Wow, that's a hell of a lot of wrong assumptions.
kevin_m_fischer@reddit
Well the snail part could be right
therankin@reddit
I've never eaten a snail, but I enjoy finding those cute little things.
kevin_m_fischer@reddit
They are cute!
breathing_normally@reddit
Yeah everybody knows it’s cockatoos not parrots
AgathaM@reddit
They just like to troll. Look at their post history.
devnullopinions@reddit
Well in their defense clearing up misconceptions is a great use of this subreddit :p
RDCAIA@reddit
We don't hate snails. But slugs...that's another story.
Bitter_Cry_8383@reddit
Snails (escargot on the menu) are a delicacy and not rare at all or limited to fine expensive restaurants. They are not on a common fast food menu.
My kids loved loved Snails in Garlic Butter ( https://onlineculinaryschool.net/snails-in-garlic-butter/ ) and we'd drive to a middle class restaurant called The Shed originally an old Blacksmith shop then a cabinetmaker owned the place, and then became a popular place for a simple mean with locals, and eventually a brewery, we'd order them as a treat. The place was a short distance from a rural college we attended

I think you might not realize that you live in an area with more French influence than most other states. lol. Vermont is French for green mountain, and it borders Quebec.
I’ve never seen escargot on the menu in any of the states that I’ve lived in or visited (basically the southern half of the country from coast to coast). And when I went on a school trip to France, very few people in my group tried escargot.
Bitter_Cry_8383@reddit
I ordered Escargot in California, Vermont, Boston, Illinois, Texas. Pennsyvanis..... - you name it back in the 70s, 80s and they are increasingly available today
You can buy snails at Walmart or Amazon but I always check in restaurants that the snails are fresh -
The demand for fresh snails (escargots) in restaurants in the USA is increasing year on year, and snail farmers are struggling to keep up with demand. One snail farmer in the US has seen annual sales double since first opening for business in 2017. [Snail farming has increased constinuously up tthry 2024 because of increased popularity and profitabilyt

This is common behavior in many countries, but OP is confused when Americans do it
Tchexxum@reddit
I don’t know what you’re doing, just saying American bad
dew2459@reddit
There was a similar discussion yesterday in r/asklatinamerica. Plenty of comments were that Europeans stink from not bathing often enough, except maybe for UK residents. So maybe you have some stinky southern neighbors…
Tchexxum@reddit
Being on Reddit we might just have a high amount of those people in general
AcidAndBlunts@reddit
You must be unfamiliar with the French…
Mostly joking.
vaindioux@reddit
J’adore les escargots… Yummy 🇫🇷
Konigwork@reddit
Hey now that’s unfair the French bathe. Just…they do it in the sewer that they call the Siene river. And they are now making the rest of the world subject to that sewer this week as well
Bitter_Cry_8383@reddit
Bidet have become popular in the US and if you're retired you might not feel the necessity to shower daily before work or school unless it's really hot out or you've been gardening. You use a bidet literally every time you use the bathroom - I own one on each floor of my house. Now I bathe two times per week and wash my hair, which is dry, with a shower attachment over the tub. I remove makeup with towelettes and always use towelettes for underarms every day before deodorant.
If I use the toilet/bidet I'll use hand-sanitizer or soap and water at the sink.
RatherGoodDog@reddit
No, we are familiar.
AcidAndBlunts@reddit
France is funny because you can smell the most disgusting odor of human rot that you’ve ever encountered, then turn a corner and it’s the most pleasant floral smell- either from perfumes or actual flower gardens. It really is an “assault on the senses”. All the cheese, winos, cigarettes… and almost no modern air conditioning.
The worst smell I’ve ever smelt was inside the Louvre the summer that Covid travel restrictions were lifted. It’s like, no A/C and no ventilation except an open window here and there… and everyone from around the world sweating out their diseases in there. Worst sauna ever.
I guess the Spanish have enough coastal breezes to carry away the smells.
meiscoolbutmo@reddit
You don't shower in winter?!?!
LeadDiscovery@reddit
Only the nice smelling ones :-)
My-Cooch-Jiggles@reddit
It’s definitely common. I only probably do 5 times a week. But it gets very hot here during the summer, especially for people of European ancestry. I just feel disgusting. Yeah during the winter it’s less. I don’t know exactly. But Americans are very big on hygiene. The times I’ve visited Europe I’ve met many people who came off as stinky. Hardly a majority. But definitely more common than here.
ShotgunCreeper@reddit
Every other day unless I've been sweating or something else to warrant a shower. At least where I live, every day is pretty unnecessary outside of a few weeks in summer.
Alli4jc@reddit
Ummm no. Im a mom. Get real.
SpaTowner@reddit
‘No’ you don’t shower every day, or ‘No’ it isn’t a waste of water?
Alli4jc@reddit
No I don’t shower every day.
SpaTowner@reddit
Cheers, why does being a mother make a daily shower unrealistic?
Alli4jc@reddit
It’s not unrealistic- just very challenging. I’ve got a toddler I’ve got to keep eyes on all the time and my partner isn’t super involved. It’s just very difficult.
SpaTowner@reddit
If it’s any consolation, I haven’t downvoted you. I was just curious.
Evil_Weevill@reddit
You appear to be Greek?
According to Google a number of surveys indicate somewhere between 75%-85% of Greeks shower daily.
You're making this out to be an American thing, but it's really just a first world country thing.
TubularBrainRevolt@reddit (OP)
Yes, this is true. However, there are the Greeks who don’t shower daily, and then in more northern climates of Europe, this isn’t the norm. That is why I am asking.
absolut696@reddit
You’re kinda slow aren’t ya
BiclopsBobby@reddit
Truly you are God’s smelliest creature.
TwinkieDad@reddit
Are you aware of how much further south the US is compared to Europe? London is further north than the entire US except Alaska. Houston, Texas is just south of Cairo, Egypt.
pagefourseventeen@reddit
It depends if you're homeless or if you have the time and feel the need to do so.
Konigwork@reddit
Believe it or not, without basic daily hygiene, people smell bad. We like to not smell bad
BringBackApollo2023@reddit
I don’t need to shower daily to not smell badly. 🤷♀️
But I have an office job so that helps. And if we’re being honest, Americans still have the lingering stink of Puritanism that makes them insecure about physical stink.

Bitter_Cry_8383@reddit
Odd but Puritans rarely bathed at all - Depends on where you came from but most but...
During the 17th and 18th centuries, many American colonists, including the Pilgrims, believed that bathing was unnecessary and even unhealthy.
They thought that frequent bathing could lead to weakness and illness. Instead, they relied on other practices, such as y changing their undergarments, to maintain personal hygiene.
Historical accounts and evidence:
Jewish practices: In contrast, Jewish tradition emphasized ritual purity, particularly for women, who were required to immerse themselves in a mikvah (ritual bath of only a dip in water). This was required only for women following menstruation, childbirth, or conversion.
This practice was not related to personal hygiene but rather to spiritual and religious purification.
Orthodox Jewish bathing habits: According to a Quora answer, Orthodox Jews do not have a tradition of bathing once a week. In fact, many Orthodox Jews bathe or shower twice a day for hygiene purposes, debunking the myth that they only bathe once a week.
Feminist Jewish revival: In the 2000s, some feminist Jews revived the ritual bath practice, reinterpreting it as a symbol of empowerment and spiritual renewal, rather than just a traditional obligation.
In summary, European Jews, including Orthodox Jews, did not have a widespread practice of bathing for personal hygiene, as public bathing was stigmatized and ritual bathing was focused on spiritual purification.
thatsad_guy@reddit
It's not insecurity. We have working noses.
FerricDonkey@reddit
I very well could be wrong, but the second statement here makes me doubt the the first.
chitexan22@reddit
Not washing your private areas everyday is gross. Not trying to be mean but that’s gross.
BringBackApollo2023@reddit
Your Puritanism is showing.
“Private areas?”
SMH.
chitexan22@reddit
Yes, your anus, vagina, or penis. Private areas.
InSOmnlaC@reddit
If you're not showering every day, you definitely smell bad. People are too nice to tell you to your face.
BringBackApollo2023@reddit
You are supremely confident.
prometheus_winced@reddit
I’ve been around people from many other countries who believe they don’t need a daily shower to not smell bad.
They are incorrect.
unphil@reddit
If you don't shower every day and don't use a lot of perfume, you almost certainly do stink on the days you don't shower.
I can't tell you how many foreigners I've met who think they don't stink when they absolutely, unequivocally do.
Now, should Americans just be accustomed to it like the rest of the world seems to be? Maybe, but that's a different debate.
sandstonexray@reddit
If you are used to smelling certain scents, you do eventually become desensitised to them. Those people who don't shower daily likely aren't nearly as sensitive to their smell (or even the smell of others) as you or I would be.
lannistersstark@reddit
Yeah you do. You probably smell and don't know it - most people who smell don't.
lmao. Good luck being banned.
RedditSkippy@reddit
I do. I also shower at night, because I like going to bed clean.
jaavaaguru@reddit
I'm Scottish and I shower every day. It's pretty normal to shower every day.

Yes, I live in a very humid area.
CanaryLotus@reddit
I do. Sometimes more than once.
BankManager69420@reddit
TIL I am in the minority by not showering everyday.
BankManager69420@reddit
It ranges from everyday to once or twice a week.
TheDunadan29@reddit
I would say yes, most Americans do. I guess I'm an outlier though, I don't. If it's winter, or I'm not sweating a lot, I'll skip the shower. I live in a very arid state and my skin gets very dry, so I try not to. So twice a week is pretty good, unless I'm working out, or whatnot.
TubularBrainRevolt@reddit (OP)
This sounds normal.
___cats___@reddit
It’s not.
TheDunadan29@reddit
Judgy much?
___cats___@reddit
No, “normal” is just a measure of the average or majority. The majority of people shower daily or nearly daily.
Large_Mouth_Ass_@reddit
…. Do you not?
fifi_twerp@reddit
Reduced water showerheads have been available since the 1970s. Some showers come with a sort of pause button to halt water flow while soaping and shampooing.
Altair05@reddit
You're still shedding dead skincells, picking up dust and dirt and germs as you go about your day. I might not shower if I'm not leaving the house but I 99% of the time shower if I am leaving home.
TubularBrainRevolt@reddit (OP)
You don’t die from this though.
WaddlesJP13@reddit
You don't die from a lot of bad things, but I'd rather not have those bad things.
TubularBrainRevolt@reddit (OP)
Probably it is a miscommunication issue. In my native language, you don’t die is used really casually, just like no biggie.
bb_LemonSquid@reddit
Yeah I mean we say that too “it won’t kill you to ____” but your argument is silly. Just because it won’t kill us to be stinky, it doesn’t mean that’s going to change our cultural norm of being disgusted by body odor.
TubularBrainRevolt@reddit (OP)
Isn’t some both odor natural though? Have you thought that big corporate is pushing product on you and shaming you for normal things?
WinterBourne25@reddit
It’s not big corporate. It’s our parents. They made us shower and wash our hands… with soap.
BiclopsBobby@reddit

Bruh, it’s just soap. It’s not a corporate conspiracy.
Phil_ODendron@reddit
No. I have never thought that "big corporate" is pushing hygiene onto me. I don't like being smelly. Taking a shower is great and it's refreshing. I love feeling clean. Even if I'm not leaving the house, I still greatly enjoy a daily shower.
catboi37@reddit
stink is stinky dude. bad smells give me a headache. corporations have nothing to do with it

People go nose blind to their own smell and those they live with.
Years ago, I use to have a coworker brag about not showering daily and how she didn't smell. Said it was her secret to clear smooth skin. I just smiled and nodded. She did have beautiful skin, but it was likely genetics. Otherwise, she reeked profusely of B.O. and everyone noticed, including clients. Body odor is a touchy topic in the USA. If someone says ya smell, it's taken as indirect commentary on cleanliness. It's like saying to someone "you're dirty", but that's often the truth.
Since being smelly affects the the people you work with, someone had to talk to her about it and I was volunteered by my boss to do. No big deal.
I had the talk with her. By the end of it she was beet red and horrified. Next days, she never smelled like B.O. with a powerful, lingering sillage. She smelled clean and took to wearing deodorant and white musk to smell extra clean.
If you don't shower regularly and you believe you don't stink, ask someone who doesn't live with you. They'll tell you ya stick to high heaven.

Slider...you stink
honestly If I don't see another person I might skip a day.
Confetticandi@reddit
Because it’s cleanly? Pretty sure daily bathing is common in most regions of the world.
I think continental Europe may be the only region that generally doesn’t and the rest of the world makes fun of continental Europeans for smelling bad.
I’m Japanese American with family in Japan and frequent bathing is a huge part of the culture. In Japan, you bathe before bed, bathe before sex, shower before you soak in a bathtub... It’s cleanly.
TubularBrainRevolt@reddit (OP)
Yes, bathing originally was for sex. Otherwise for religious purification rituals. That is why the church restricted it during Medieval times. I don’t get why you should shower every day if you don’t duck every day.
dew2459@reddit
You are just making stuff up. Bathing was originally for cleaning. Even monkeys and apes bathe. The earliest known baths were in China and included scrapers for your skin, no early evidence of being for sex or rituals (though I am sure there was sometimes bathing associated with some early religious rituals).
Though later, Jews, Hindus, and Muslims did do ritual bathing.
[citation needed.] Various church fathers and popes extolled the virtues of regular bathing, so I think you are wrong there. Maybe you are confused that in western Europe the early church stopped Roman baths from being co-ed; and those big roman baths mostly stopped working after a few hundred years due to the big water and engineering requirements (some of the very ornate ones were even converted to churches). But newer (non-Roman) public bathhouses were still a big thing until around the 1500s (early modern times) when they started to get more associated with prostitution and were often suppressed.
Sometimes there were also weird beliefs that became locally popular, like Francis Bacon in Britain going on about how hot baths were unhealthy and you should only bathe in cold water (but he wasn't Medieval or the church).
I mentioned in another comment that this was just discussed in r/asklatinamerica. The general consensus there seems to be that most Europeans smell bad (and apparently refuse to accept that they smell bad).

It's polite to smell nice in a society and water is abundant here. We do conserve water when the weather requires us to, but that's like, not watering your lawn or doing all the laundry. And a normal person has daily physical activity or kids or pets or romantic partners etc.
TheRedmanCometh@reddit
If you live some place people don't shower all day you should, and you'll smell way better than everyone else.
DrBlankslate@reddit
Of course. It's disgusting not to clean the body at least once every 24 hours. Body order is gross and if you smell bad, you will be invited to leave whatever space you're in.

It's interesting how every time this question comes up, the OP pretends to be concerned about us wasting water by taking a daily shower.

Thing_On_Your_Shelf@reddit
The thought of someone not showering everyday sounds disgusting
mt97852@reddit
Every night and some mornings and after exercise and before events.
caskey@reddit
Generally yes
Mr_Sarcasum@reddit
Do you at least wash your armpits, crotch, and ass everyday? The only person I know who doesn't shower every day make sure to wash that.
jebuswashere@reddit
There are ~330 million people in the US. Some shower every day, some don't, some shower multiple times a day. This really shouldn't be startling information.
Personally, I shower every day because I like to feel clean, and it helps keep the depression at bay.
Tom_Tildrum@reddit
My grandparents lived through the Depression, and they never said anything about showering.
;-)
Far-Increase8154@reddit
I do
Idk about other than people
NoHedgehog252@reddit
Jesus fucking Christ. You are in a country that doesn't follow a basic daily hygiene regimen that includes a shower?
Rourensu@reddit
Just to play devil’s advocate for fun, there’s a non-0% chance that the daily hygiene regimen could include a bath, not a shower.
Seventh_Stater@reddit
We get dirty daily, so why not shower daily?
Uller85@reddit
Twice a day for a lot of people.
thatsad_guy@reddit
Where are you from that you don't clean yourself daily?
CuratorOfYourDreams@reddit
Yes
Shiiiiiiiingle@reddit
Yes, we brush twice a day, too. We also go to bed at 9pm and get up at 6 am. We eat pizza every Saturday. Also, we wear blue shoes on Mondays.
_vercingtorix_@reddit
When I used to work in the factory, I showered twice a day, even. Once before work, and once after.
nautical1776@reddit
Are you serious? You can’t say that an entire country showers the same amount of days. Like… ask 50 people you’ll get 50 different answers
To-RB@reddit
I shower 2-3 times per day. Yes, I live in the muggy Deep South.
FerricDonkey@reddit
Yes. Because if I don't, I sink and feel gross. It is not a problem for water.
Rob1150@reddit
I do.
Sowf_Paw@reddit
Yea, it's called hygiene.
Pugilist12@reddit
I certainly do.
Mouse-Direct@reddit
There are multiple reasons to shower daily. Hormonal reasons for women (and some men). Some of us have oily skin. I shower AND wash my hair daily because they’re both oily.
FuckTheStateofOhio@reddit
I exercise daily so not taking a shower means I would show up to work drenched in sweat.
mvandore@reddit
Generally people that live in humid parts of the country or are outside most of the day need to shower daily. But people living in drier climates, who don't sweat a lot or spend a lot of time in hot weather outside can get away with showering more infrequently.
Cheap_Coffee@reddit
Why would you NOT linger in a hot shower every day if you had the capability?
Adventurous-Nobody@reddit
(I'm not American, I just saw this post in my feed)
I can certainly think a lot of weird things about Americans, but I'm pretty sure most of them shower every day like all normal people.
NoFilterNoLimits@reddit
My skin is softer and healthier when I scrub it daily. I usually shower at least 6 out of 7 days.
I do not live in a drought prone region.
conser01@reddit
I might miss a shower on a weekend since those are my days off, but otherwise, yes, I shower every day.
fujiapple73@reddit
Ew, where are you from, OP? I would like to not visit there.
Equinsu-0cha@reddit
Do you not?
dr_strange-love@reddit
Does water not fall from the sky on your planet?
GF_baker_2024@reddit
In the summer, yes. It's hot and humid here, and I sweat when I go outside. I don't want to marinate in sweat and body oils overnight. In the winter, it depends on whether I'm planning to be around other people that day or not. Still, a hot shower feels amazing when it's -15°C and I can't get warm even with an extra sweater, thick socks, and a blanket on my lap.
dangleicious13@reddit
Dude, I shower at least twice a day.
bb_LemonSquid@reddit
I usually shower every day, especially during the summer. Winter I might not shower as much but if I’m working I will shower every day.
neueziel1@reddit
Hahah yeah Americans have decent hygiene standard
Ravenclaw79@reddit
Yes? Why wouldn’t we? It’s called good hygiene. It’s good to be clean.
noperopehope@reddit
I shower every other day or if I get sweaty
KittyScholar@reddit
Where I live, we’re currently in the season we like to call “three shower days” because it’s so hot and humid and you get so gross people legitimately take three showers per day.
Even in the winter, yeah, for most people it’s part of either our wake up or bedtime routine.
Curmudgy@reddit
That reminds me of the era when men had to change their collars three times on really smoggy days. Pittsburgh smog.
threepointonefo@reddit
Yes every night. I like hopping in my bed feeling fresh. Also important after a workout.
Darmug@reddit
Yeah, I shower every night
von_sip@reddit
Same. I hate the idea of bringing all the funk of the day into my nice clean bed.
ManIsFire@reddit
I'm a morning guy myself. If I'm particularly dirty from something I'll do one at night... and again the next morning. Creatures of habit.
w84primo@reddit
Living in a hot and humid environment air conditioning is irrelevant. Stepping outside at any time and you’ll be covered in sweat. You don’t even need to be exercising. You’re basically living in a sauna.
To be honest if I’m not going to any stores, restaurants or anything else like that I likely won’t take a shower. It all depends on what I’ve done throughout the day.
Something else to consider is not taking a full shower. Like my wife doesn’t wash her hair every day.
bankersbox98@reddit
Generally yes. Americans tend to be obsessed with personal hygiene.
TubularBrainRevolt@reddit (OP)
Has anybody thought about the corporate push for products behind this?
bankersbox98@reddit
Nah it’s cultural. It was like that before the modern corporate industrial complex was invented.
Fancy-Primary-2070@reddit
Wait until you hear about Brazillians!
sadthrow104@reddit
Wait, most first world country folks DON’T try to shower at least once a day?
BusinessWarthog6@reddit
Yeah, when I get home I wanna wash “work” off me
radicalresting@reddit
this american showers TWICE a day. i am sensitive to “people smells” and the feeling of an unshowered body isn’t for mee
OceanPoet87@reddit
Some do and some do every other or even longer without. We try to do at least every other day.
In the winter, its actually more enjoyable because it gets cold out so sometimes it seems like we're bathing or showering at least 1x a day and several times twice. Running the water once a day in winter is good for the pipes. You have to keep the sink at a steady drip for example to avoid it freezing.
Now if you get a water notice, you can plan to conserve. Also a 2-5 min shower or a quick bath are less wasteful than other things like watering your non native lawn in a drought in New Mexico for example.
zneave@reddit
Yes every morning and sometimes in the evening if I've been sweating a lot throughout the day. I don't want to dirty up my bedding or smell bad. America is very much a place where smelling is not encouraged or even tolerated in places. We shower, we wear deodorant and colognes and perfumes. Body oder stinks and people don't want to be revolting to other people and be an outcast like the smelly kid in school or that dude at work with the bad breath.
justmovingtheground@reddit
This is stereotype. Some of us are stinky hermits.
Celeste_Seasoned_14@reddit
I probably shower 350 days a year, sometimes twice if I get particularly sweaty or dirty. Those few days I don’t it’s because I’ve been at home all day doing mostly nothing and I’m not going anywhere around people at all. However, I only wash my hair about once a week if I haven’t been sweating (it’s long and curly) because it will dry it out.
Some parts of our body start to smell just be existing. No, thank you.
baalroo@reddit
The only people I know who shower everyday year round are people who work blue collar jobs, and people who work out every day.
WFOMO@reddit
Yes they do and yes it's often a waste of water. Where I live it can hit 100 by May and doesn't cool off until November. High humidity as well. I work outside most of the time and am usually covered with dirt, sawdust, or oil/grease. So I shower before putting that in between the sheets.
In winter, not so much. If I'm covered with filth, yes. If I sat on the sofa or porch all day, I see no point in it.
steven_cornthrob@reddit
Yes, all the bullshit our society feeds us makes us smell bad.
GF_baker_2024@reddit
Yes, many of us do.
Mr_Kittlesworth@reddit
Yes, at least once a day.
And water is very nearly free.
Freakazoidandroid@reddit
Honestly I used to because my parents made me and it became a habit into adulthood. Then life got busy and I realized if I didn’t sweat, stink, or get dirty, there wasn’t much of a reason to. I’ll go two days without now on occasion.
TubularBrainRevolt@reddit (OP)
The first sane reply.
Freakazoidandroid@reddit
Apparently not. It’s not a common thing, but if I don’t leave my house, I don’t see the point sometimes. I have an infant and bathe her constantly, but when she falls asleep, I fall asleep, and that’s just how it is.
boston_homo@reddit
Daily isn't necessary for me but regularly is good.
confusedrabbit247@reddit
I shower every day when I work but not on my days off unless physical exertion is involved
virtual_human@reddit
Mostly.
SkotchKrispie@reddit
I shower twice a day. When I lived in a humid area, I showered sometimes three times a day. Only the shower in the morning is extended in time. I don’t use much soap nor spend more than 3-4 minutes during a second shower for the day.
DerthOFdata@reddit
5 to 10 times a week depending on circumstances. I get itchy after a couple days.
ManIsFire@reddit
I'd say I average 5.5 showers per week. I have weeks off of work all the time and I won't shower every day. Then there are times during the winter where nothing is going on so I don't care to.
UseBearSpray69@reddit
So first we don't shower every day. Now we shower every day.
Recent-Irish@reddit
I take a quick ~2 minute cold rinse in the mornings that’s more to wake myself up and wet my hair to be combed than to clean myself and then my hot cleaning shower in the evenings.
guy_incog_neato@reddit
for the most part, yes. every night. it grosses me out thinking about being out and about in the world then laying in my bed at night without one.
Key_Floor298@reddit
Most people don’t have bidets.
ButtSexington3rd@reddit
On work days I shower before every shift, and occasionally after if I get gross. On days off I only shower if I need to be social. And not like "run to the store" social, like out for the evening.
captainstyles@reddit
Yes, sometimes twice a day depending on how hot and humid it gets.
Koumadin@reddit
twice daily in summer when needed with temp in the triple (fahrenheit) digits. once daily in winter. i like to smell good and my hair looks shitty not washed daily
MarthaStewart__@reddit
No, not everyone showers everyday. Do I shower everyday? Yes, because I smell and my hair gets greasy overnight.
Do I need to shower everyday? No, but I have the means to do so and I enjoy feeling clean. Is it a waste? The US has the means to collect, purify, and recycle that water into circulation.
FlyingVigilanceHaste@reddit
Yeah, daily. If not daily, then every other day at a minimum.
Gotta keep oils and skin conditions under control.
WinterBourne25@reddit
Do you not workout? Do you not walk everywhere? Do you not sweat?
It’s been hitting 90-98°F here daily. It’s also very humid. Showering daily removes the daily sweat and funk.
Seriously, don’t you guys sweat?
jonathanclee1@reddit
Honestly I think the ones showering multiple times a day (3 or more) is a little excessive and I'm pretty sure a dermatologist would tell you it's too much.
KingOfStoke@reddit
OP is clearly French.
Avery_Thorn@reddit
The vast majority of Americans live in areas where the largest problem with water is when there is too much of it and it overflows the rivers and lakes and causes damage all over the place. Hundreds of inches of it just literally falls out of the sky every year. (Thankfully, not all at once.)
DoublePostedBroski@reddit
Found the smelly tourist in line behind me at Disney World
312_Mex@reddit
I shower twice a day!
EcoAffinity@reddit
Probably for the majority of Americans. I shower every day I have work or am going "out" with friends and family to do something. I may even shower in the morning for work, and shower again at night to get ready to go out for an event. If I'm lounging around the house on the weekend or just running to the store for a few things, I wouldn't necessarily feel I have to shower.
Some people shower every other day as they feel they don't sweat/smell bad enough to require more frequent showers. I would personally consider that bare minimum responsible personal hygiene.
Americans do not tolerate body odor well as a society, nor are we big on strong fragrance to mask odors. Showering is the easiest way to manage it.
non_clever_username@reddit
Sometimes I won’t on a weekend if I’m not leaving the house, but otherwise yeah every day
8462756q@reddit
Sometimes multiple times a day.
We have abundant cheap water. It’s not a concern at all.
Luka_Dunks_on_Bums@reddit
During the summer, during July and August, twice a day
zugabdu@reddit
I shower every morning. I'll shower a second time in the evening if I've done serious physical activity. Showering feels good and it doesn't really affect my water bill that much.
anneofgraygardens@reddit
I don't. And I don't smell bad. I shower regularly, but not every day.
JimBones31@reddit
Not every day if I'm not getting sweaty or stinky. That said though, it's been hot this summer and I work two shifts a day doing physical labor. I've been showering twice a day after work.
ThisGuyRightHereSaid@reddit
In summer I do multiple times a day.
namhee69@reddit
I shower two or three times a day. Most everyone I know showers daily. I know in the winter it could be counterproductive by washing away oils that help prevent dry skin but I hate feeling sticky after sweating.
jensenaackles@reddit
Summer typically twice a day, especially with walking the dog. Winter once. I live in a cold winter climate so definitely not sweating too much during the winter but it is still nice to take a warm shower and then moisturize all the dry skin after.
BingBongDingDong222@reddit
You don’t? Gross.
