George’s impressive mileage wasn’t entirely driven by his hand. He started a supercar rental company with that very Lamborghini, letting paying customers flog his personal Murcielago on tracks while riding shotgun. That makes the mileage even more admirable, as it wasn’t accumulated on long highway roadtrips, cruising at 2,500 rpm. George’s Lambo earned its mileage the hard way—on track. But, as George says, the Lambo actually loves it. “The faster you go, the more it likes it,” he said. “Anything past 3,000 revs, it’s much happier.”

Unfortunately it’s been faked, the cars mot history clearly shows a steady increase in mileage up to 86k miles in 2016 then the 2017 mot shows 260k miles the car has then averaged 6k miles a year since! The guy just pretends it’s at 300k for the attention and YouTube views.

Isn't this car not on the original engine anymore? If memory serves correct first time it got some press. Impressive either way for sure, but if it's the original engine id be amazed.

If this is the one that used to feature in Evo, it was very well maintained with parts replacements when required, and may be on its second new engine. The owner had another Murcielago, and one of them (can't remember if it was this one) had a big crash and the chassis had to be literally bent back into shape.

Supposedly the trans is original and so is the motor but the motor has been opened up before. And yeah it had a nasty crash. The owner says the room is as much filler as it is metal and it's part of the reason he keeps driving it as it's basically only worth it's value in parts. Nonetheless one of my favorite car stories

I remember reading the article about the rebuild of that one. The headlights alone were £7k ($10k) each. These cars are not cheap to restore.

cars like to be used. i recall some car company investigating why a certain model used by police was lasting so much longer than when the same model was sold to civilians. this was even while cops seemingly used and abused it, and the result of their investigation concluded that it was a combination of regular maintenance and the fact that the engines barely ever turned off compared to when consumers purchased the same model.

Lamborghini’s Ferrari’s reputations for unreliability are in some part because their cars are often seldomly driven.

and like this article not actually driven. Nothing likes to lug around. Same concept with a generator, it’s better for it to have a draw put on it than to run and not.

cold starting an engine is the worst thing you can do its life

Worse than running it lean then banging off the rev limiter for 5 minutes while parked?

My driving instructor was selling his car (new one just bought) got it looked over and asked mechanic for a quote to replace exhaust and clutch - "why? Nothing wrong with either of them" was the reply, car ran 14+ hours a day 6 days a week and often on Sundays also Showed him the exhaust and it was apparently like new

It's a bit like a family friend of ours.
He used to be a taxi driver, that came ran 24/7 and was only turned off when it was time for servicing every 15k km . He biught the car when it had 550k km on the. Clock and is currently slightly north of 1 million kilometers and still running real good.

I think Merc has one in their museum like that

I know this car very well, even got chance to drive it 2 weeks after passing my driving test. He’s put a hell of a lot of blood sweat and tears into keeping this car on the road. Long may it continue!
flamouris@reddit
Oh geez. I was in the market for a reliable daily last week and went with a Fit, I didn’t realize I should have been cross-shopping with a Murcielago

Nah, this one had already had 250k back in 2017 and it's been a slow climb since then.
