Another serious news site - The Telegraph - covers the story. But will the BBC, NYT et al follow?

Why is this sub hyping this up so much? Isn’t it just another person telling a story like Lue or Nolan or any of the other usual suspects? Not saying it’s Bs and I would love for it to be true, but at the end of the day it’s just someone telling us a story that we have to take at face value.

This was featured on BBC Radio 4 this morning. With an interview with Nick Pope discussing it. For those that don’t know: Radio 4 is a more serious news/talk radio channel that typically wouldn’t touch UFO stories. The good news is they actually treated it seriously (no sniggering presenter) and Pope provided a clear summary of the situation. The presenter did try to project it as a story about possible human tech at one point - although Pope reminded him that the whistleblower specifically mentioned non-human tech.

I’m somewhat new here, but I love the discussions and details I’ve found in this group. Can I ask a very “green” question? Would this still be nearly as big of a story if Grusch came out saying something along the lines of… “I’ve been informed by multiple independent resources that Roswell, Area 51, etc. are true and the US has since captured even more damaged debris and materials since.” Again, please forgive me for asking such an elementary question, but when when Grusch talks about the top secret recovery team which has been hidden for decades, Roswell is the first thing that comes to mind. I’m just skeptical about whether this story would be receiving the same excitement and attention if this was someone just stepping forward saying Roswell really did happen and we still have the materials. Again, I’m a newby so forgive my dumb question. Lol
View on Reddit #3176531

SabineRitter@reddit

Welcome to the party! 🥳 That's actually a great question. I think the extra spice here is the allegations of criminal conduct. Telling the news "Roswell was real, y'all!" would be just another day in UFOs. Telling congress "laws are *currently being broken*" is why this story is so big.

frank_jon@reddit

I’m not talking about “eyewitness accounts,” many of which are fake or have an earth-based technological explanation. I’m asking how every government and every intelligence agency throughout the world has, for decades, agreed to keep this all a secret. We can’t agree on basic things like human rights and protecting the environment. You’re telling me every loose cannon POS leader out there that could give a damn about world order is suddenly status quo when it comes to extraterrestrials? He submitted hundreds of documents to congress that back up his claim. Those documents are still classified and cannot be shared with the public. The DoD is currently authorizing him to say what he’s said so far. What other evidence were you expecting?
View on Reddit #3199203

Ok-Ease7090@reddit

My only point is that public facing information is less evidentiary than things we have already seen like the video the air force released to eyewitness testimony by pilots and astronauts. We have not idea what is in the classified report. It may be amazing or it may be nothing. But all that the public has is this guy talking. Which is nothing
View on Reddit #3199447

--MilkMan--@reddit

No, the public is now aware that the guy, who is one of the previous UAP task force leads, presented hundreds of official documents that demonstrate the US Government has a UAP reverse engineering program, who is involved, and location and numbers of UAPs in possession to Congress. The DoD literally cleared him to say that.
View on Reddit #3199845

Ok-Ease7090@reddit

That’s what he SAID. He didn’t actually offer and proof of that. Did he? Was there something from the DoD or Congress supporting these claims? Aside from just the fact he submitted a whistleblower complaint. I mean that they substantiated the details. Keep in mind, you are arguing the entire US government has lied to us for decades. This guy is a member of that government and we’re being asked to believe his claims as truth with no support. Why is he not also a liar? The fact he is saying things we want to hear doesn’t meant it true until hard evidence is presented. That’s the difference between a fact and a story. Evidence

What a lot of enthusiasts fail to understand imho is that the rest of the world doesn't really care much about most topics unless they are directly affected in some way. With stuff like this, what exactly should people be hyped about? How is any of this going to impact lives on the individual level? People are struggling to feed their families, working 24/7 to afford housing, while trying to deal with a plethora of socio-economic issues. When it comes to politics, it's one bullshitter after another wasting our time as a society by implementing policies favoring corporations. Majority of people on this planet are being exploited, including children. People's rights are being taken away, women's rights are being eroded in nations that previously had less religious fanatics at the helm, environmental issues causing massive harm to a variety of species, including long-term survivability, etc. At what point do you see aliens, or at least alien technology of some sorts cause any major interest, unless it is somehow capable of changing lives in a constructive manner? One of the bigger questions will be why governments and agencies decided to hold back and artificially stifle progress for our species. And one of the main reasons will be nations concerned with handing out insights and technology that is way too profitable. Capitalism rules this world and helps the power hungry to stay at the top. All of that would be less effective if we had access to technology beyond our understanding. Just imagine nations becoming independent of oil or other resources because they would have some energy source like fusion. Who really wants that to happen? Imagine resources being more accessible, maybe major industries being disrupted to the point they would not be profitable anymore? Who really wants that? It really doesn't matter whatever was found, the vast majority of people on this planet won't be affected. If anything, it's going to be used to further oppress them and milk them and make their lives even more miserable so a few can own more land and more resources to waste it, while the rest keeps starving. So why the hell should anyone even care about any of this?
View on Reddit #3168119

View on Reddit #3194683

Xarthys@reddit

That's not something most people care about, nor do they see how that kind of knowledge might be helpful. You have to understand that the vast majority simply does not have the priviledge of spending time thinking about these kind of things. Additionally, they usually don't have neither understanding, nor appreciation for the universe beyond what impacts their daily lives. It's why so many are hesitant, if not outright against financing research that is about space and/or related fields that do not seem to have direct application in sectors that provide consumer goods.
View on Reddit #3184701

The most memorable experience I had was working with a guy who was separately wanted for a shooting, but the investigators didn't have enough evidence to remand him in custody. Legit. BBC news has had a slow transformation over the last decade into the British Fox News/OAN. They could run a piece on flat earth and have an astronaut and atmospheric scientist but they would be cut off to ensure the flat earther (and of course Nigel, invited to give his opinion on the shape of the earth) are able to make their assertions, and then of course spent 5 minutes listening to Farage about how the Immigrants and brown people actually control the shape of the world.

I'd like to think that, but for it to take this long is starting to feel very weird. It's like those with the power are showing how strong they are by ignoring reality itself, and/or making their cronies and underlings do it for them. There's also the so-called "social media bubble" only showing you what their algorithms want to, and the obvious censorship and gatekeeping by Googlytube and wikipedia that has been rampant for years now. It's like the bars to the cage are starting to show and our tech and media wardens are exposed now, and this issue just illustrates it perfectly. Looks like we have a job to do by directly sending these stories to people we know and care about, and helping to point them to credible people and resources to help get them up to speed. Which will seem like an oxymoron folks who haven't. Who is "credible" in the field people have been conditioned their whole life to believe is a "conspiracy theory"? I guess I see now why they tried to rebrand it UAP.

Honestly, if Grusch is on the up-and-up, as he so far appears to be, then the NYT would be going through some serious info vetting right now and prepping for a major front page of the Sunday news kind of story. Any serious exposé would take a few days to assemble together.
View on Reddit #3184109

swank5000@reddit

BBC, NYT, and others like them (WaPo, etc.) prefer to vet their stories before they publish and do their own due diligence. If NYT doesn't break the story, they will nearly always allow it to play out and get more solid info on it/check with their own sources. BBC specifically is almost *never* the first to hit on breaking news, because they, too, vet information thoroughly and do their own investigating/corroboration. There's a reason BBC doesn't end up posting "Breaking News" stuff that they later have to amend very often. Of course, at this point, two days later, I'd expect the BBC to put something out by now. [NYT supposedly working hard on a story for their Sunday edition](https://www.reddit.com/r/UFOs/comments/143chyi/big_nyt_article_coming_this_weekend/) however, does not surprise me.
