Hi guys any of you have any possible solutions for this error?
Excluding (motherboard, power supply and ram)
-Event ID: 41
-Event source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
-level: critic
Thanks in advance!

For anyone looking, today got one case. Intel's i7 9700k was the issue with the combination with Gigabyte Z370P D3. Turns out, setting CPU Clock to Auto makes it, who would've guessed, auto overclock ranging from 4.5GHz to 5GHz. It overclocked itself up to 100°C under 100% load at which point the system resets instantly.
Setting the clock manually to 40 (36 is base) provided a comfortable 60-70°C temperature with no crashes during AIDA64 tests. Basic gaming tests showed that it's reliable (so far).

I had similar issues with my AMD build. It seemed to happen when CPU was going to a low power state. I disabled s states in bios. That helped. Not sure if Intel is the same. I was soo frustrated with the issue that I ended up manually ocerclocking the CPU and RAM. Now it runs stable. I still think my issue was the system trying to balance everything and failing.
knownbyfew_yt@reddit
S state or c state?
LejaBeatz@reddit
I believe c states. That message from me was false. I still randomly have issues now.
Tight-Confidence-650@reddit
Any luck? I'm running asus x670e-e with 7950x here. This has been plaguing me.
LejaBeatz@reddit
Negative. Still have random crashes.
PutinPisces@reddit
Any update? Dealing with this now
LejaBeatz@reddit
Upgraded CPU from 3700x to a 5800x3d, and still had the same issue. Only thing I have not swapped is the board.
PoyoPoak@reddit
What are your bug check codes in eventviewer?
LejaBeatz@reddit
WHEA Logger Fatal error Processor core Machine check exception Processor APIC ID:4
Am I missing anything you are looking for?
Got the same error before CPU swap from 3700x to 5800x3d. (Same error, different core each time) Replaced PSU, replaced RAM, xmp disabled, enabled, c states off and on... etc... sometimes it works perfect, sometimes it crashes randomly. Usually, it's fine after a graphics driver reinstall. Sometimes requires AMD cleanup and reinstall. Im out of ideas... I have not replaced the MB, but if soo many people have the same issue across different hardware, i assume it's software related...
BuckWilicker@reddit
Dude I am having this same exact problem with the same exact processors! I even swapped my mobo (Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE to ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero) and still having the same issue, I am pretty fucking certain it's an AMD issue at this point and it always happens when I am not doing anything taxing. Like watching youtube or browsing facebook.
I've tried undervolting, disabling c-states, swapping my boot drive to a new nvme, disabling xmp. Thinking I'm going to go back to Intel when I upgrade
LejaBeatz@reddit
Same, leaning towards Intel. The issue only pops up after windows updates. I think I read somewhere that it's windows drivers interfering with AMD ones. Sucks.
BuckWilicker@reddit
Since my last post I've replaced my psu and ram. Still have the same issue. I just rma'd my evga 3080 as a last ditch effort as I've now replaced everything in my tower.
If it still happens after getting a replacement gpu from evga I'll likely never go amd again. They burned me before with the fx series in like 2011
Ok_Analyst_115@reddit
any updates? I'm having the same issue and can't understand what part is causing it. If you really replaced almost everything and it still wasn't fixed then my condition is hopeless.
BuckWilicker@reddit
Nothing has fixed it. I even sent my 3080 back to evga for full RMA and got a different GPU back from them. Still happens, I'm convinced it's an amd problem
Reddit_User2PointOh@reddit
I assume you've changed the PSU as well? I've been having Event ID 41 and i really do not want to replace my x670e tomahawk. Might replace my ram soon. RMAing for a new PSU did nothing, as I still get random reboots while doing light workloads (internet). I've even bought a new CPU and that did nothing at all.
If it's a power issue then maybe it has to do with my outlet. I'm not sure anymore and I'm getting fed up having to reboot my pc manually after trying to wake my monitor up from Window's automatically turning off my monitor.
bananabutthead@reddit
I also have an msi X670e (gaming plus) and am having the same issue. I'm considering getting a UPS in case its my outlet because my cpu stays cool, mem diagnostic says ram is fine, and I already checked the cabling so I can only assume it's either the outlet or the motherboard is short circuiting.
Reddit_User2PointOh@reddit
I replaced my RAM and it 100% fixed my reboot issue.
ColJDerango@reddit
Same issue here, waiting for my 1000w PSU to arrive to replace my current 750w.
LejaBeatz@reddit
I updated from a 650 to a 1000w Rog Strix PSU. Made no difference.
ColJDerango@reddit
Damn, maybe faulty RAM or Mobo? For me it's a kernel error often leading to graphics card crashes, so I think PSU is most likely my root cause (been putting it off for a while though haha)
Kysz_@reddit
any update after u changed PSU to 1000w?
Personal_Bell_84@reddit
Still happens to me with a new 1000w PSU. I think it's CPU or mobo related. Those are the only 2 old parts of my build
dexterrible@reddit
Not sure if this is helpful for someone reading in the future but I managed o solve it with running default ram speed. I know how to recreate the issue so once I tried with stock ram it didn’t happen. Still testing. In case it happens again. I will reply again
Personal_Bell_84@reddit
Alright, this is good info. It happens to me rarely nowadays, but when it does happen, it occurs when I put my computer to sleep it sometimes shuts down instead of going to sleep. Then when I boot it back up it shows Kernel error in the logs. I'm not too keen on running my RAM at stock speeds.
dexterrible@reddit
I tested 5 times and with stock ram the error does not happen! I think basically my bet is that either ram speed is too high for the memory controller or it needs more voltage
Today I’ll test that as well. Until I find a stable solution for expo profile
This is mostly an annoying thing but nothing that breaks your computer
Personal_Bell_84@reddit
Yeah, that's super interesting. Maybe the mobo is too weak for the full speed of 3600Hz RAM?
dexterrible@reddit
CPU controller probably motherboard is a quite good x670e meg ace which is like 700 bucks
dexterrible@reddit
Ram unstable I think
xLegion10@reddit
An old thread but currently experiencing this issue with my newly build PC. my cpu is Ryzen 9 7900x / 32gb DDR5 6000mhz CL28 ram / 750w bronze power supply (NZXT brand) / I have no video card (my pc is purposely for productivity and not gaming). Not happening all the time but when I step away from my pc and let it goes to sleep (my sleep settings is 15mins), sometimes it will goes to sleep just fine but sometimes, my pc will restart on its own. and with this Event 41 kernel-power critical error.
jamvanderloeff@reddit
That error doesn't tell you much other than windows crashed before it could save any log of what went wrong. Motherboard, power supply and RAM all could be causes.
GoldenGate92@reddit (OP)
Beyond these 3 things?
I have tested the rams it tells me that they are alright, the rest too.
jamvanderloeff@reddit
Tested how? Can be practically any part causing it.
GoldenGate92@reddit (OP)
The Ram with the usb Mem test, while the rest of the pc with the 3DMark
jamvanderloeff@reddit
Neither of those fully eliminate any of those possibilities.
TraditionalBuddy7991@reddit
I’m very late but why does memtest86 not completely rule out RAM as being a potential cause?
jamvanderloeff@reddit
Because it doesn't always fail with memory controller instability
TraditionalBuddy7991@reddit
Would you mind if I PM’d you more about my problem? I’ve had OP’s problem for several months. You seem very knowledgeable and I just kind of wanted some guidance as to what steps I should take next.
gabrielbr1802gcc@reddit
have u got an solution?
TraditionalBuddy7991@reddit
took it to a PC repair shop I had residue on my backplate and my motherboard. cost me $60 for diagnostic and repair
gabrielbr1802gcc@reddit
" a residue " ? Like, they cleaned your pc and changed thermal paste, and solved the problem?
TraditionalBuddy7991@reddit
No I had like sauce that I spilled and it seeped through my vents which then trickled down onto my GPU backplate and other areas. the shop just took my components out and cleaned it. sorry i know my case is very unique so i know this doesn’t help
gabrielbr1802gcc@reddit
Surely very unique XD. Anyway, thank u for the reply.
Financial-Savings583@reddit
hey i have the same issue on my laptop but i played lots of game but it didn’t occure while playing games.
it just happened while watching youtube in chrome browser...so thoight the crhome might have some problem so i changed to brave but the same thing happend after 1 month pc screen freeze then after 2 min pc restart autometically this thing haopened 4 time in 7 month . no blue or white screen can be seen.
sagaciousbadger@reddit
Man I had the same issue with my 10900kf and Strix 3090. 3 games I play make my computer randomly restart: Witcher 3, kingdom come:deliverance, and valheim(only when on high settings though, with low settings it works fine). I had the same event 41 kernel-power error every time and I spent a long time emailing with the customer support that built my pc troubleshooting. Even got sent new ram. Eventually came down to them telling me to send it in to them and since it only happens in those 3 games I just said fuck it I won’t play them. Lol. I still don’t understand why it happens when I play those games. Newer games with rtx like cyberpunk work flawlessly at 1440p. Good luck with fixing your problem!! I’m saving this post in case you find any solutions I can try haha
Linclin@reddit
i think witcher 3 is like a light memory test ? turning off xmp help?
sagaciousbadger@reddit
Turned off xmp, ran memtest on old ram and new ram, reset cmos, ran other benchmark tests, among other things I’m not remembering. Everything checked out fine in all the tests but for some reason with those 3 games my pc just says nope! And randomly restarts during gameplay /: I just find it weird how it’s those older games and valheim which doesn’t have the best graphics that cause it to happen. Forza horizon 5, new cods, new halo, dbd, apex legends, rdr2 all run fine for hours on end but those 3 games I can play maybe an hour tops before it happens. Very strange lol
Zeta001@reddit
Holy carpfish - valheim causes my build to just....die. I'm googling as it happened to my machine about 15 mins ago and came across this thread.
Apex has caused it once or twice but I'm gonna go through my build and disconnect my HDD's and check my connections thoroughly.
Will report back.
Zarathustra-1889@reddit
Two years later, never reported back lol
Zeta001@reddit
Wow I didn't think this thread was still going but I do have something to report back with.
I got a new PSU and haven't had any further problems. I previous was a rm750x and I upgraded to 1000w thermaltake, I suspected the 3080 on load was spiking over capacity and tripping something.
Zarathustra-1889@reddit
Ah, I see. Glad to hear you resolved your problem. I, unfortunately, have yet to resolve mine. I replaced the CPU and RAM recently and have been experiencing system instability when attempting to launch certain games. I also suspected that perhaps it was to do with the PSU being insufficient for the load and replaced it with a 1000W PSU, far more than I actually needed but the additional overhead as well as future proofing are nice to have. This still did not resolve it. I am now going to attempt to completely uninstall the GPU drivers and reinstall them, hoping that this somehow fixes the issue. If not, the nuclear option is to reinstall Windows entirely.
Zeta001@reddit
Oh no! It's a nasty bugger of an event, like a check engine light on a car.
Disabled xmp and pbo (amd) or undervolted (Intel) for the CPU?
Sometimes going back to stock bios settings can help diagnose further.
Also boot into safe mode with network and try to replicate the issue. I used valheim or palworld for mine.
Zarathustra-1889@reddit
Tell me about it, mate. At my bloody wits end with this nonsense. I went from a 12600K to 13600K so I'll give that undervolting in BIOS a try and going back to stock BIOS settings. Haven't tried booting into safe mode yet, so gonna add that to the list and see if it works. Throwing every damned thing at the wall now to see what sticks lol.
