Ryzen 7 7800X3D VS 7700X VS 5800X3D for gaming

I'm choosing a CPU for a gaming PC and I've narrowed it down to these three. The 7700X and 5800X3D are more in my price range but I'm told the 7800X3D is more for gaming. What are your thoughts?

I just upgraded from a 7700x to a 7800x3d, I just couldn't get the 7700x stable with core performance boost enabled and that's enabled by default in all recent am5 motherboard bios. I have very good cooling, AIO and tons of case fans. The 7800x3d, with CPB enabled and expo is solid as a rock and running cool as a cucumber. It also draws less power. Removed a ton of headaches. Considering doing an RMA on the 7700x or just dropping it into a cheap MOBO, building with spare parts, luckily I have a bunch, disabling CPB and selling it on eBay with a caveat. Was a very nice upgrade for me, albeit the gains are tiny to non-existent at 4k. That said I have less buyers remorse knowing my CPU is now operating at its optimal configuration.

BRUUH YOU SHOULDVE KEPT 7700X AND JUST ENABLE E MODE IT DROP 20\30C AND LITERALYY SAME FPS SOMETIMES MORE FPS IS JUST CRAZY HOW THIS CPU USE OF POWER WITHOUT A RASON

It's running in another sff build I use for gaming at work and just toggled cpb off. As you said it's cool as a cucumber and rarely goes above 30 percent until when gaming.

7800X3D > 7700X > 5800X3D
Unless you already own an AM4 Motherboard and DDR4 RAM, I would not go for the 5800X3D.

Yep. The 5800x3d is an incredible drop in upgrade if you're already on an AM4 platform or really want to keep costs down by buying used.
If you're buying new, the 7700x basically matches the 5800x3d in gaming and the 7800x3d beats it by 10-15% on a new platform that will likely have a few more drop in upgrades in the future.

Is getting a 5800x3d worth upgrading too from a 3600. Tbh I’m happy with my current performance but just curious what sort of difference I’d get in performance?

I replaced my 3700x with a 5800x3d. Huge improvment!

I have a 3700x and none of the latest and greatest games even push it beyond 60% usage. I cap my FPS at 80 because I don't need more.
I'm guessing you play uncapped?

I upgraded from a 3600XT to the 5800x3D. I have a 6750XT 12GB GPU and play at 2560x1080 ultrawide resolution with 144hz freesync. I mainly upgraded for the CPU bound titles like Guild Wars 2. I cn definitely tell the difference in most games I play but was also pleasantly surprised that the uplift in frames on CPU bound games wasn't the only benefit; It really smoothed out the overall feel of almost every game I play even if the avg. FPS only increased a little bit. Battlefield 2042 is much more stable and doesn't get nearly as choppy when tons of things are exploding all over the place. I actually feel like going from the 3600XT to the 5800x3D was a more pronounced upgrade than when I went from my original launch 1700 to the 3600XT two years previous.

play mainly bf2042. thinking should i make the jump from 5600x to 5800x3d. have 3070ti. (i should note i absolutely dont NEED it but itching to make the jump.)
DrunkenTrom@reddit
The best thing about the upgrade (besides the fact that it is a pretty big uplift in some games that benefit from the cache) is that you then have the best for gaming AM4 socket chip and nothing better will ever come out for your platform. Then the next step is to just use it until eventually a game you want to play doesn't run as well as you'd like. By then you may even be able to skip an entire platform like AM5 and it may be even AM6 by the time you feel the need to build new again.

I upgraded from a 3600 to a 5800x3d and I am happy.

Happy happy cant wait for my 5800x3d

If you're building brand new, then the 7700 (non-X is fine and close enough for less money). Trades blows with a 5800x3D, it's in budget, and you can upgrade to a newer AMD CPU gen later if you want to.
Unless you have a 4090, don't worry if you only have the second best tier of gaming CPU available
Xidash@reddit
4090 works great with any of those cpus at 4k.

Well I know I'm either getting a 7900xt or gre so what cpu should I pair with that for 1080p mostly esports an minecraft?
Xidash@reddit
Wow did't expect a reply 2 years later. Depends on your current platform but any of the CPUs in the list below and equivalents should do fine. https://imgur.com/a/KzW82i1

It's simple: if you already have am4 and ddr4, go for 5800x3d... if you want to upgrade to am5 if you want just for gaming then go for 7800x3d... if you want for both productivity and games then buy 7700x
KO-Manic@reddit
I know this comment is old, but what kind of productivity are we talking? I’m trying to choose between the 7800X3D and 7700X, but the main reason I’m even considering the 7700X is because of how I might use it for some productivity work such as programming and game development. If I can get away with the 7800X3D for these things (baring in mind I’m not going to be doing anything crazy, likely just doing these as a hobby), then I’d love to get it as the gaming performance is amazing apparently. What do you think?

Did you ever decide on a CPU?
