My 16-year-old surprised me with that one last night. I'm pretty sure I was counting the days from the age of 7. 18 meant absolute freedom. Escape, really. The start of my "real life". And that was fairly accurate. I'm guessing my son's position is also accurate, but that's so wild to me. We've worked hard to give him a home that he feels secure in so I'm sure this is partially a function of that, but what initiates the drive to go out and make it on your own these days?
