Yorkshire Tea vs Yorkshire Gold. What's the difference?
Posted by -THE_BIG_BOSS-@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 83 comments
So today I grab a packet of Yorkshire whilst shopping and when I get home I find out I bought Yorkshire Tea and not Gold. Same company, same looking packaging. Did I buy an inferior tea or is it just a bit different, or no difference whatsoever? Tea is serious business.
tonalddrumpyduck@reddit
Does anyone prefer Yorkshire Tea over Gold?
rhystheblob@reddit
I think I have to drink more Yorkshire Gold. I'm struggling to be impressed with anything other than PG tips at the moment. I'm sure I've tried Yorkshire Gold in the past and not been wowed. However, I shall give it a jolly good go before making my mind up on such matters

How the hell did you comment on a 5 yr old thread when they're archived after 6 months lmao
Opposite-Farm684@reddit
Lol this thread is clearly of national importance so it's still not locked for comments 😂
-THE_BIG_BOSS-@reddit (OP)
After all these years I must report I prefer the normal Yorkshire Tea when had with milk and the Gold when without.
heyvoteforpedro@reddit
Interesting. Thanks chief
10YearsANoob@reddit
cheers mate. will try gold without
sliquonicko@reddit
International even, I’m from Canada and just got here from google. A wonderful British woman told me I needed to try this tea today so off to the store I went!
ellie_s45@reddit
Question I've always had... Is British style tea (black with milk and sugar) common in Canada? I know there's a decently large tea culture there but I don't really know how similar or different it is from here.
sliquonicko@reddit
Most places I'd say it's a bit more popular than it is in the states but not by much, especially in big cities in the west (where I'm from)
My grandparents are from the Maritimes though, and it's pretty big there. Most popular brands are probably Red Rose, Tetley and Overwaitea? I have a ton of the little Red Rose statues from my Nana.
I started drinking tea as a teen just because I was kind of a... fan of British things? at the time, and read about it and saw it in a lot of media. I'm in my 30s now and drink a cup most mornings - but I only know one person that drinks it as often as me, and his parents are from England.
greytidalwave@reddit
Tea doesn't do it for me in the morning, has to be a double espresso. I drink tea in the evening as my caffeine requirement diminishes.
Error_7-@reddit
Yeah Canadian brands like Red Rose taste like dishwater... Yorkshire Gold or Red is my go-to.
jcd748@reddit
Canadian grocery store teas are generally pretty bad. I've been ordering from Murchies. Pricier for sure, but excellent tea.
RamonaVirusx@reddit
It definitely is, 3 years on and here I am too
used_bathwater@reddit
Nor is it now. Still answering the age old question of "what is the difference between gold and regular "
space-blue@reddit
Good thing too
Vegetable_Debt7333@reddit
So I'll have to join after just a decade as I stumbled upon that thread by googling (and "TheSpiffingBrit" on YouTube because he praised Yorkshire Gold to be THE tea, essentially blessed by the gods)
Right now I'm sipping on one of my local brands of black tea and though I lack the comparison, it's a good one. Nothing too expensive as that pack of 50 bags came in at just 99ct, however for my current financial situation it's pretty good. I will try and order Yorkshire Gold at some point, still got some good Ceylon Black Tea lying around somewhere.
May the tea live on!

Still alive and well this thread is!

It's the first thing that comes up when you type, what's the difference between Yorkshire tea, and Yorkshire gold into Google.

Who knows, but after buying Yorkshire gold yesterday, my eyes have been opened.
haaiiychii@reddit
PG Tips have changed their blend and now in square bags. I think I'll have to try this Yorkshire Gold.

Hello :)
KawarthaDairyLover@reddit
Hello from today. Trying Yorkshire red for the first time and found this thread.
PaintMysterious8147@reddit
I buy only gold here in America but have seen regular Yorkshire but never tried it & so wondered what the difference waa and have also found this thread.
Southern_Street1024@reddit
PG Tips and Yorkshire Gold are both good teas.
PooleyX@reddit
Two bags of Gold in my big teapot makes an amazing cup of tea for four people. It's just richer and stronger. Standard Yorkshire is great for single cup dippers. Either of them are better than any other non-speciality tea on the market.
TacticalxxTom@reddit
Err I have 2 teabags in a large-ish mug (350)mls
Or 3 teabags in a 450ml pot
Rockhount@reddit
strong brew = better brew <3

I wasn't aware that they grew tea in Yorkshire, lol

So hi! I’m here today from the Netherlands.
Had Tetley then PG Tips and now wanting to order Yorkshire tea for the first time.
reachisown@reddit
I can here to find out that very answer today as I picked up a £7 box of the gold
Efreeti@reddit
How was it?
ndpardis@reddit
It was SO good they died from the flavour'gasm and went to heaven for another cuppa.
Efreeti@reddit
Dang. One less person to help me figure out if I try normal or Gold for my first ever Yorkshire tea purchase
ndpardis@reddit
My Tesco shop is being delivered today with some of the Gold stuff. I will report back here once I have a cuppa.

We have to drink Yorkshire Gold when the tea alarm goes off or we’re not doing it properly 😬
Aggressive_Koala8609@reddit
Does any one know the difference between red label and gold label tea bags in aldi?
anarchos@reddit
I'm a Canadian living in Spain, so definitely not a tea expert. I normally buy regular Yorkshire for 5 euros per 40 bags. Carrefour had the 80 bag Yorkshire Gold in a metal caddy for 8 euros, so I obviously bought that instead, cheaper and a "free" metal tin! It tastes more or less the same, maybe a touch stronger? Hard to say. I doubt I could tell a difference in a blind taste test. Good tea though, and a no brainer if it is cheaper!
RamenMonster7823@reddit
Am I the only one that finds it unbearable to drink pg tips and tetley? There's something about Yorkshire tea that makes the perfect cuppa
Advanced_Smoke6529@reddit
I think it's what most of us grew up on having to drink so it's the norm & what we're used to..PG..Tetley...Typhoo...But I was never happy & couldn't decide which I preferred when venturing out from the nest. So glad I broke away from the mould & tried Yorkshire....It's all I drink now...in fact I do think Yorkshire today is the big three of yesterday. Clippers good too but expensive. I know this post is 9 yrs old so apologies if you're now dead.
Particular-Ad-6663@reddit
I nearly spit out my Yorkshire Tea Gold on reading your closing sentence. Thanks for that. Ya know it's against the law to make people lose or spill their tea! 😂
semifamouswriter@reddit
Grew up drinking Tetley, switched to Yorkshore when my then-bf-now-husband and i first moved in together bc that was his brand of choice. Now I can't stand Tetley and have to bring my own box of Yorkshire whenever I visit my parents.
DekonBloo@reddit
Finally, someone who understands
ChestnutTom@reddit
At 39 I'm currently drinking my first ever Gold, having always drank the traditional. I'm underwhelmed I must say, though it was worth it for that look in the Cashier's eyes, she must have thought I was Sir Alan Sugar.
Psychological_Tea939@reddit
I just bought Yorkshire Gold. Nice cuppa.
Madazz111@reddit
Tried Yorkshire (found it at an Airbnb I just went to) after being a long term Twinings drinker and I'm a convert, now I need to try the Gold to see if I can notice any difference.
Grimble133@reddit
Well after 9 years of thinking about it, I pulled the trigger on some Yorkshire gold (usually just have the normal) Great decision.

I am deciding between the two still!

Economy_Willow_2419@reddit
I ended up what the Yorkshire Tea; next time will try the Gold :)
Sucramdi@reddit
Gold is a bit better than regular. I can't really describe the taste difference, but its like the Gold has something extra to it. Not a night and day difference by any means.
iamjuls@reddit
I googled it the gold is a smoother flavour so it doesn't require milk and is less bitter
Quirky-Wasabi-9367@reddit
They are on offer at Lidl now in the once sold section. 160 bags for £6 ish. I can’t add a picture to the thread. Fancy box! 🤩
sailbythesea@reddit
Still drinking gold. Delighted to see this thread soldiering on 😊
Miserable_Tiger_5589@reddit
think i’m gonna be buying gold just to honor the lengthy time of this thread to think someone asked this question in 2016 😂
Premium_Wookie@reddit
Yorkshire gold feels like a builders tea. It's strong and tastes proper British 👌. Also Sean Bean does there commercials
DobbyLovesButterbeer@reddit
🤯😯
What!!!?
DobbyLovesButterbeer@reddit
Reading this for the first time since I came here to find out the difference between the two.
I thought I liked the gold one alot more and then I had a red one this morning steeped for about 3 minutes and it was *perfect* 👌
Cidrex999@reddit
Nothing there is no difference. I tested it by making two cups one was from gold one was regular. I steeped them same length of time. Then had my family all 6 of them blind taste them. We all mostly drink tea as our drink of choice. So we know our teas. None of use could tell a difference.
DobbyLovesButterbeer@reddit
I gotta do this test on myself
ElegantFloof@reddit
I thought it tasted nice but I’d probably struggle telling the two apart if I’m being really honest.
Conscious-Ad8487@reddit
Had my first cup of Yorkshire gold today and it was very pleasant. I’m usually a big coffee drinking but am trying to make the switch from being a godless heathen

LuaCynthia@reddit
After 9 years would you say gold is better?
MetalTruck@reddit
For all the Canadians here, the only bag I've found that compares to Yorkshire Gold is King Cole from New Brunswick.
Cgal1@reddit
Gold tastes slightly stronger and fractionally more bitter to me. I have my tea black but I think if you add milk or sugar the difference wouldn’t be noticeable. Yorkshire is one of my favourite teas, the only other one I enjoy as much is Cornish Smugglers Brew which I don’t get often since I live in Scotland!
