What process to make pool water drinkable (chlorine and salt)

going to necro this. chlorine up to 4ppm in water is safe to consume. municipal water treatment plants have used it for years. A strong smell of chlorine doesn't indicate a high FREE chlorine level but a high COMBINED chlorine level what you are small are chloramines, the compounds made when chlorine binds to ammonia and nitrates from human waste i.e. sweat, piss, jizz, etc. When a pool smells of chlorine that means you need to shock it and super chlorinate it to bust those chloramines apart and filter/flush them out. Salt water pools you have between 3000-3600 ppm TDS typically (mostly salt). which is about 10 times less than ocean water. 1000 TDS is usually the cutoff for when water starts tasting 'funny' but at 3600 you could drink it if needed, also assuming the salt cell had been working recently and pool had stayed sanitary and the TC isn't too high. However the real issue is the CYA. standard chlorine pools are usually 30-50 and salt pools up to 80 ppm. this level should be under 2ppm for potable water. I don't know what the affects are but I just know that is the recommended level from EPA.
