AQP RTO on the MV

At my airline were required to do the RTO on the MV. The captain is the only one who can reject the takeoff. How can this be graded on an MV? Are they just grading the FO on callouts or also the FO in the left seat rejecting the takeoff?

What if the CA dies on the roll? If it's an initial type ride isn't there something about it being a PIC type rating so you have to do everything.

I just did my captain MV today and the FO just did their callouts and ran the checklist

At my airline, it’s mostly callouts. Some guys forget to tell tower they’re rejecting, and unfortunately some check airmen have to fail the applicant for it.

Dude no one is failing someone on a missed callout during an AQP MV If anything they’d just have them repeat it

If you have to repeat items, they count against your total repeat limit, so you can technically fail your MV on it, especially with a picky sim check airman. But usually it's an easy maneuver for the FO so a little practice and OP will be good.

My MV was FO/FO pairing. Only the FO in the FO seat at the time was graded. Just do your call outs, call to ATC, and request fire services. The FO in the Captain seat just tried his best at a RTO. Either can call for the reject but Captain performs it. Forgot who was doing the “takeoff” at the time whenever whoever turn it was.

As a few guys mentioned usually has to do with the PIC type rating your getting since most places don’t handcuff with a SIC type. Usually means you need to do a rejected take off and demonstrate a short taxi thereafter.

For mine I did one in each seat, FO side w/ callouts then moved to the CA seat and actually performed the RTO. You’ll be prepared accordingly tho, and it is super easy especially with the auto brakes.

At most airlines, the ability to distinguish between rejectable/non rejectable failure and keep the plane on the pavement. You are getting a PIC type rating so they have to examine that aspect of your capability.

Find your airlines AQP manual and it will list the task, condition, and standard for every single maneuver. Just like the ACS or PTS

My type I did RTO from both seats and taxi from the CA seat to satisfy the full PIC type. Don’t sweat it. My CRJ type the duties were literally written on the cover of the QRH.

At my airline either pilot can call an RTO but the captain must execute it. For the MV, we simulated the captain was incapacitated at the 80 knot callout and I had to do the RTO and perform all the captain duties

I don’t remember it being this huge command exercise, they were basically looking for if you could preform the reject. I think my current place failed the engine and the last place just said “hey the CA passed out” or something stupid like that. You reject, stop safely, and that was basically it. Airline dependent of course.

FO has responsibilities too. Captain needs reversers status and speeds Tower needs to know you’re stopping on the runway Pax & FAs need to know what to do

Some airlines will have an FO do a reject, too. Sometimes from the right, sometimes from the left. It's like the easiest maneuver you could possibly do.
