Thoughts on "Parallels?"

For me it starts off weird with the shifts, but then when you get the exposé and every thing makes sense it becomes a great episode. Who doesn't like destroying yourself?

Great episode, but it was a bit silly in reality that each jump was a greater deviation from his own. Like why wasn't the first jump to Borg universe, or where he is first officer, and then jump to one where his painting is on a different wall in his quarters?

Maybe if we think of the universes lining up next to each other in order of slight differences…. So maybe one time the push was to an adjacent universe with very minute changes, while another burst pushes him further away from the last universe

For multiple dimensions episodes, it did it real well, also was a good reminder of just how good of a reality they were in.

One of my faves. Although, I’ve never quite understood the details/logistics. There’s always a Worf in every timeline — even in the post-Borg apocalyptic one, there’s just crazy Riker up front and a Worf in the back pressing buttons frantically. When our Worf leaps from one timeline to another, what happens to that timeline’s Worf? Do they swap? In fact, when they identify the correct (our Enterprise), there’s already a Worf standing at ops behind Picard. Who was that Worf? Did he go back to Deanna when our Worf went home?

I think that certain rules have to apply for Worf to jump to a certain universe. 1. Worf has to exist in that Universe. He has to be able to replace another version of himself. 2. Geordi needs to have his visor. Worf jumped whenever the visor got too close to him. Any universe where Geordi doesn’t have the visor or where Worf and Geordi never met Worf would not be able to jump into them. This is probably why we only see other versions of the Enterprise and all the Worfs we see in the shuttle are wearing Starfleet uniforms.

I like the episode but I think a problem with introducing the idea that there are infinite realities is that it makes the prime one we're watching feel a little pointless, especially some of the weightier choices like in Yesterday's Enterprise. Also makes the mirrorverse a bit redundant.
I think to avoid this, they should have said a unique phenomenon was generating alternate realities rather than bouncing Worf through infinite existing ones. The ending could then have been about collapsing them so only the prime was left.

That's some real fridge horror there about creating and collapsing entire realities.
We always knew there were alternate universes since the Mirror Universe.

I'm curious why you think it makes it pointless. I've heard this about other sci-fi but don't really understand this sentiment. For what it's worth, the multiverse interpretation of quantum mechanics is a pretty solid one that many theorists subscribe to. Doesn't make my reality less meaningful since it's the one I inhabit.

Stardate 47391.2; one of only 2 stardates I remember from any of the star trek series, (the other being 47988 from all good things...) not sure why these two stuck in my head all these years. I loved this episode when I was a kid, I still do, but I see so many problems with it now. Like why does Worf's clothing change? Shouldnt he be the same but everything else is different? Also, in universes where he is talking to someone, and shifts to another universe mid conversation, how is everyone in a completely different universe standing around having the exact same conversation, when this Worf hasn't been there yet to instigate this conversation. I think the scene where he shifts to the bridge mid battle and is completely lost, is the way it probably would've played out with each shift... Just a completely random different situation each time.

God I hate the Troi/Worf romance, their friendship was really well done as they bonded over taking care of Alexander but their romance felt like a really forced lazy plot line to give them something to do
WillieStampler@reddit
It becomes VERY relevant in Star Trek: Prodigy Season Two.

I love the idea of this episode. It makes me mad because it sets up that stupid romance, but everything else about it is fun.

One of my favorite TNG episodes, and one that's a bit underrated I think, although it's starting to get mentioned more lately.
Obviously the big changes are fun to see, but even the little ones that are only seen and not mentioned at all are neat. The subtle changes to the Enterprise, Data with blue eyes, the return of the Future Imperfect commbadges, etc.

Love that episode. The part at the end with Riker always scared the shit out of me

I know that, if I were responsible for Geordi’s death, I’d definitely need one of Deanna’s famous back rubs

The crew singing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" in Klingon is alone worth the price of admission.

I really like this episode. In another timeline, not so much.
