If you had to choose between an i9 14900K and an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, which would you pick and why?

Does it really come down to brand loyalty? Even though the AMD CPU has less cores, it preforms on the same level, or so it seems. Intel was leading for years, then AMD caught up, then Intel surpassed them, then AMD made a better one, but now it seems somewhat even.
Where do you guys stand?
Shap6@reddit
Neither. 7800x3d
fatpastaa8989@reddit (OP)
Really? Why is that?
Shap6@reddit
its better for gaming than the 7950x3d and thats mainly what i use my PC for
OompaOrangeFace@reddit
This is false. The 7950x3d is faster for gaming. Not by a lot, but it's the best.
MarxistMan13@reddit
You're being downvoted, but you are correct.
OompaOrangeFace@reddit
People really love the 7800x3d, guess they are too poor to afford the 7950x3d and can't live with that.
Same-Tea-447@reddit
no, people are not too poor, they just say you are wrong, wich is true
ShrapnelShock@reddit
Your Q gets asked nearly weekly here.
7800X3D is the king of gaming CPUs today. There is are 14900k v 7800X3D benchmarks (hardware unboxed youtube) where 7800X3D beats it 1-15% it at half the cost.
7800X3D is more powerful for gaming than their own 7900X3D and 7950X3D because they each have two schedulers inside. But it just ends up being a single scheduler architecture in 7800X3D is far better streamlined and thus performs best.
Long-Flounder-4038@reddit
False information! The 14900k is so much better! The poor will buy AMD and try their best to make themselves beleive they made the right choice knowing they fkd up.
ShrapnelShock@reddit
I want to meet someone like you in person. Are you 12?
Long-Flounder-4038@reddit
I don't associate with dumb people that believe everything they watch on youtube and become fanboys. facts suck, i know, get over it.
Warm_Construction749@reddit
I enter in the game : I had 7800x3d, but now, I have 14900KS DELIDED with 5.8ghz on all core, and 8000mhz, and I can say : it destroys 7800x3d !!
with counter strike 2, the 7800x3D and ram at 6400mhz, I had 700fps (1280x1024), but I had drops to 400fps many times, and I use 540hz monitor and I need +540fps constant, I was disappointed.
My 14900KS DELIDED + LAPPING, on a z790 APEX encore with RAM at 8000mhz is so much much much better : 700fps constant with some drops to 600fps : the job is done, I can enjoy 540hz at the full potentiel.
I will never go back to AMD, INTEL is so much superior if you have money and skills to overclook.....AMD is for me for the "noobs"
GoldkingHD@reddit
For gaming? Just the 7800x3d.
For a mix of gaming and productivity? Then the 7950x3d.
For just productivity? 14900k, even if it's impossible to cool
Mistafrags@reddit
It is 100 percent possible to cool with a 360 aio and power limit at 253w in bios
Pitiful-Assistance-1@reddit
Why 14900k over 7950x (non 3d)?
GoldkingHD@reddit
14900k is slightly faster for most workloads and intel quicksync is nice to have.
At that price point might as well get the current best even if energy efficiency and upgradibility suffer.
Pitiful-Assistance-1@reddit
What's Intel quick sync
5553331117@reddit
Likely just a Google search away
OkCaregiver8628@reddit
sorry im late it is its video speed stuff
Pitiful-Assistance-1@reddit
What do I need video encoding for? I have a GPU for that
Nick_Noseman@reddit
It is for offloading that encoding from GPU to iGPU to free GPU for something else
Banished_Privateer@reddit
What if your CPU is KF and has no iGPU?
A5CH3NT3@reddit
If you were a professional buying a CPU solely for that work you would never go by "most workloads" you would want to know what's fastest for your specific workloads and it could be AMD or Intel as at the high end they trade blows. Sometimes the difference is minor, sometimes the difference is quite significant
Pitiful-Assistance-1@reddit
You're right. This was my experience when researching before I bought the 7950X (vs 13900KS IIRC). They were trading blows so I went with AMD for lower power consumption (thus easier to cool, less noise)
FEEDE3R@reddit
IMAO amd has a monolithic crystal, so it is harder to remove heat from it + on paper has a smaller tech process which is also harder to remove heat from.
axefxpwner@reddit
Another thing people often over look is that Intel CPU’s generally have lower latency, which is important in tasks such as audio recording/editing.
Pitiful-Assistance-1@reddit
Lol now you're just making stuff up.
axefxpwner@reddit
Nope. You just want to believe that. Look it up, or don’t, idgaf
amithecrazyone69@reddit
Probably due to chiplet design
ProfessionalAd1933@reddit
Helpful! Thank you!!!! I'm being forced to upgrade from my 10th Gen i7 laptop because it just can't handle more than one of my data processing apps at once, and I'm going into a career very heavily using them.
Do you have a recommendation for a very middle-of-the-road GPU? I don't play first person shooters or anything. Mostly just puzzle and strategy games, although I'd love to get into Raft and Hydroneer. I've just been using integrated graphics and the only things I know about GPUs are 1) which ones are the best, and 2) the fact that I definitely don't need that level.
But only if it's not too much trouble!! I don't want to put you out or anything.
No-Dingo-2180@reddit
Kenny been banging prozac, been banging prozac
meezy_hrv@reddit
look, no matter what people say, if you want to squeeze out every frame possible go for the 14900k.
abitofbyte@reddit
Completely agree. I have mine paired with a DeepCool LS720. It's an awesome CPU and I love it. Zero heat issues.
elibenaron@reddit
So heating issues can be mitigated with an AIO cooling system? That's good to know. What motherboard are you running? I think that might also make a difference in performance.
aurizz84@reddit
AMD until It is possible to cool Intel
-Geordie@reddit
If you watch jayz2cents latest video, he explains that its NOT intel at fault, its bad motherboard manufacturers applying their own insane settings to make their products look better, these "optimisations" can be easily turned off for practically zero loss of real world performance.
Tomboy_Lover_Center@reddit
This aged like fucking milk lol
Desperate-Roll7367@reddit
14900K for gaming, single thread performance still rules overall and you can look this up on userbenchkmarks.com.
Foreign_Job2885@reddit
userbenchmark is intel biased, 7950 has a better edge of 14900k just look at the powerdraw to performance
tqmirza@reddit
Depends on the use case.
For gaming? I9. Why? It doesn’t have the issue of the wrong cores being parked.
For video/graphics work loads? I9. It has intel quick sync and makes quick work of anything thrown at it.
Here’s a question: why would i9 be a bad deal?
Try cooling it with anything other than a 420 AIO, good luck!
Also, its end of life for this socket and there’s nothing to upgrade to on the same motherboard if you wanted to, that’s where AM5 might get you 2 years more.
Suitable-Anteater-40@reddit
kind of very late to this thread, but just having the debate myself. Is the difference really massive and noticeable for work use?
Hot_Coach3877@reddit
Ryzen 9, why? Because I hate intel
TheRtHonLaqueesha@reddit
Hey, good a reason as any.
NoSalary7126@reddit
Remember X3D is only better in GAMING, only Gaming. intel is better in every others aspect
