Of course, no one read the article. They're all being sold to a rideshare company in New York

Yeah it’s a gamble but they may end up coming out ahead. If out of that 3300 number they lease out 500 or so, they’d have enough leftover in case one’s a dud or they need a part that breaks. Considering they’d also have the rights to the software (from what I read) they may even be able to pay someone to help support that.

Fair point. Buying 6 cars to hot swap them when they die seems like a bit of a waste though, especially when the Camry exists.

If there’s a faulty part or assembly, it’s typically widespread resulting in a recall.
View on Reddit #30104889

Turbo_S54@reddit

i hear you. but in this situation we have 2 new cars, and 1 is a parts donor. recalls aside, you can certainly have a shared issue like both cars have bad window regulators for example, but i think there's an equal or higher likelihood of the cars having different issues throughout ownership; like one might have an electrical issue, and the other a suspension issue, etc
View on Reddit #30105759

hertzsae@reddit

I think it's even more likely to have both situations where the parts car helps you with one off problems and doesn't with design flaws.
View on Reddit #30133314

View on Reddit #30120488

Finding any two anything’s with as many parts as a car with identical flaws is nearly impossible. Yeah, the odds are better in a situation like the Fisker Ocean, but you’d have a better chance of having one good set of parts with two examples than with one.

There are controllers for EV motors and batteries already on the market. Fun fact the Renault Twizy (a small quadricycle EV) has an 45kmh version that you can drive without a license and a 80kmh version both use the same specs and can have their top speed limiter unlocked and reach 110ish kmh. The only problems are heat and battery drain.

As long as they open source all their software (unlikely), this would be a fantastic buy for technically inclined people. The court should force them to release all software and CAD data so that people can fix them somewhat reasonably. Hell, for 14k I would consider one if I could guarantee to mess with all all the software and had some CAD to maybe be able to replace something. I would just pray I never wrecked the thing.

Hopeful and would be a great outcome but part of the bankruptcy management plan will likely require Fiskar to maximize the value they can extract from the remaining assets which include a portfolio of IP assets. That IP may lose value if they are publicly disclosed (e.g., trade secrets, know how, source code, etc.).

I went to a regional car show in March and someone had brought their Ocean, just two weeks old. Spent quite a bit of time talking with the owner. Not knowing what was on the immediate horizon for Fisker, our chat was very positive and we spoke about how Fisker is back and doing it right this time. The fit and finish is nice, and if the company were well-funded and solvent, these definitely would have had a place on US roads. But just a couple of months later my conversation with the Ocean owner would come back to haunt me, realizing that he had lost his "investment", and I use that term loosely because 99% of cars are a liability/cost. I didn't realize at the time how much risk was involved with buying Fisker. These were priced too high, but price aside, I think the Ocean is a fairly attractive EV package.
