Rewatching Mythbusters, I can’t stand Kari.

So I used to watching Mythbusters years ago and last month I decided to binge watch every seasons. The problem is I now find Kari insufferable, it was alright the first few seasons when Scottie was there but now I honestly skip every segments of the build team and just watch Jamie and Adam. Anybody else feels like this?

It's sad for women that she didn't have comparable skills to the men, and maybe chosen for her looks. I think Adam/Tory would've been the dream team.

I didn't really dislike any of them, but I for sure rather watch the Jamie and Adam segments than the b-team segments.

In all seriousness, I actually never much cared for Scottie. I like Kari. But, hey, I hate Everybody Loves Raymond because I hate his wife, mother, and brother. That show was a big hit. Probably I was damaged in my childhood.

Late to the post. I wouldn't say I find her insufferable, but I've always gotten a certain vibe from her that I don't love. Sort of "not like other girls". It just kind of feels like she lacks empathy. But it's more a vibe than anything I can really point to, so I fully admit it could just be the way the show is edited.
Heard her on Craig Ferguson's podcast recently extolling the virtues of AI, so I'm now wondering if she's a grifter, or one of those people who fancies herself more qualified to speak about science than she actually is and leads us all down the path of Silicon Valley doom.

I'm late to this too and only found it by searching to see if anyone else thought she was there more for 'sex appeal' than her science and/or build skills. Sure, she is obviously no idiot but she totally leaned into the 'hot girl' role in her numerous appearances in 'mens' magazines' at the height of MB popularity and almost 'fetish-izing' the nerdy scientist look. Often her biggest contribution to the myth was doing the countdown - which I'm certain she did waaaay more than the others.

Honestly I agree. I didn't realize just how put off by her I was until I recently caught the new podcast she's on with Tory B. There's just something about her..like she's trying too hard to come across as "just one of the boys". In the new podcast she also makes a point to insert herself into every story or situation that Tory or any guest recounts. I don't really know how else fo describe it other than attention/approval seeking. In Mythbusters it seemed just a bit fake and flaky...in the new show it's far more obvious that she got a lot of her self worth by being associated with the rest of the crew...and she seems desperate now to try and relive the old days/regain her 15 minutes of feeling cool/badass. I guess age/motherhood gets us all there at some point.

That's an insecure woman for ya. Idk we like mythbusters but even my wife can't stand Kari. Her outfits aren't practical and as mentioned its like she's an insecure little girl and is constantly complaining does like 1/10th the physical build help on experiments.....The whole Ca. vegan crap. Half the experiments she's dry heaving or screaming....Idk but she annoys me overall. There are SOME episodes where she actually helps build and do the experiments and isn't worried about the camera or if dust got in her hair just not enough to change my opinion.

I've been putting on random episodes, and also been finding her pretty grating with the constant yelling/screaming reactions.
I enjoy Adam and especially his Youtube but his almost robotic laugh is also getting to be pretty grating on the ears.

I think Kari is annoying and her personality seems fake and forced. She is always trying to have the last funny word in a way that is so hard to watch.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, mate. Kari is cutesy filler that distracts from not just mechanics/science of the show, but also the weird dichotomy of Adam and Jamie. Grant, RIP, was a vast improvement, and the highlight of the build team. All in all, this addition was a dilution of the show’s premise and appeal.

I mean you give absolutely zero reasons as to why so idk how to respond. Personally, I adore em all. Take any out of the equation and the vibes would be off. One of the best group dynamics for a show imo.

I feel like she overplayed the girly team member in the first seasons and she always seems to really exaggerate every reactions she has. I know the show is staged and scripted but I feel like it’s in my face with her. Not that I don’t see that with the other members (even Adam, can’t really say Jamie overplays his reactions) but, I don’t know, sometime you just can’t stand someone. Although, I respect the fact that most people seem to enjoy the trio.

But all of them are over acting and corny? But then I think to myself that 1: it’s target audience had a lot of kids 2: it would be boring if they didn’t add any humour 3: they aren’t actors, they were production people first

I can see how that would annoy some. For me I just liked how the trio grew over time. Mid seasons the myths they tackled a lot of the time were more interesting to me and more enjoyable with how they approached them.
Also: pretty sure Kari would humble every single person in this sub with her skills/experience she gained throughout the shows runtime lol
