Is there a difference between 2 1080p monitors and a 4k monitor in performance?

You are so right. I haven’t had any issues with my current setup, which is a 4k and 1080 running from a 7900 XTX, but also in fairness I haven’t futzed with it much. Before this build I had a similar setup monitor wise but a 1080 ti and had similar problems. First I want to complain about display cables and revisions. My initial setup was a 1080p 260 hz monitor that I used for gaming and a second 4k 60 hz monitor I used to discord, web browsing, media consumption, etc. I forget what exact cables and revisions I needed, but I needed specific cables for each monitor, one DP and one HDMI, both of them at their latest revision at the time, to have enough bandwidth to run the monitors properly. This isn’t really problematic, it makes sense, but I didn’t really think about it when I purchased the setup. I bought the fancy pants Netflix subscription for 4k content, which was only available through the windows app at the time, not sure if this is still the case. The playback through the app would be like 1 fps unless I lowered the 1080p monitor refresh rate to 60 hz. Another issue I had was when I was running Linux, setting the text/icon display size would apply to BOTH monitors, so I needed to have either outrageously small icons and text on the 4k monitor or outrageously large icons and text on the 1080 monitor. This may have been resolved. The one problem I did have with the 7900 XTX, which has since been fixed I believe, was high idle VRAM use which led to high idle power consumption. The card absolutely did not want to run two monitors with two different refresh rates. The setup has changed now and I use a 4k 144 hz monitor for gaming and the old 1080 240 hz monitor is the second monitor. I locked the 1080 monitor to 60 hz because it’s the side monitor. Games ran perfectly fine, it was just the high idle power usage. The fix was to set the 4k monitor refresh rate to a multiple of the 1080 refresh rate. So if I had them both at 144hz or one at 120hz and one at 60hz, the high idle power went way down. Like more than cut in half. This issue also effected older nvidia cards at some point, but I think that had been fixed a while ago. Sorry for the wall of text, but I feel you. Dealing with monitors and troubleshooting the issues is a pain in the ass.
