I don’t know if this would be an appropriate Reddit post to ask this question but does anyone know how I might be about to put number munchers either on my phone or more preferably I have a handheld emulator (anbernic) I home school my kids and would love to have them play some number munchers to work on their math.
This game changed my LIFE!! I didnt want to get banned for posting my story here, so I posted a pic on imgur instead. Hopefully that doesn't get me banned either. [https://imgur.com/a/number-munchers-uVdeJvg](https://imgur.com/a/number-munchers-uVdeJvg)
I hear ya. I think the only time I saw Marhman were the times I was home sick from school. Thought it was a fever dream a few years back until I looked into it
I never understood the appeal of this game. People were crazy about it and I was just like "Um, it's just math problems, let me hunt buffalos to extinction instead, thanks."
My mom actually grounded me from Oregon Trail because I hunted them so ruthlessly. I got a long lecture about cultural genocide and was relegated to Number Munchers for a time.
As an adult, I still feel a little guilty whenever I eat meat, still dislike math, and pinpoint this as my trauma origin.
Haha I remember this game! Besides Oregon Trail my 2nd grade class has this, some haunted house game, and some game where you had to stamp out a particular shape to match what the pc wanted you to.
[Super Solvers Out Numbered](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OutNumbered), [Maniac Manson](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maniac_Mansion), or [Hugo's House of Horrors](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo%27s_House_of_Horrors)?
I got in trouble for fighting with a classmate over whose turn was next to play this game in the 4th grade… 30 years later: fuck you Steve Chen for hogging the computer like you owned it!
I remember asking my parents for this because I sucked at math and needed to practice. Being the cool parents they were, they totally got me Number Munchers. I still suck at math, but I'm pretty good at rage quitting a math game!
I always sucked at these games really bad and my dad would make me play them pretty frequently. When I was in a Junior in high school we figured out I have Dyscalculia...
My favorite 3rd grade teacher had Fun Fridays, where we spent math class playing math related games. We only had two Apple II Cs in the classroom, so the two most improved students always got first choice on if they wanted to play Number Munchers first.
Math was always my strongest subject, so I usually didn't get a chance in class, but I'd play that and Oregon Trail after school while waiting for my mom to finish getting her classroom ready for the next day or to finish bus duty.
We got to play this as a reward in elementary. Teacher would hand out the floppy disks and the kids would cheer. Now that’s how ya get kids into math lol.
We got the best of times in my opinion :)
Really enjoying being a father though. My oldest could be an honorary xennial with all the old school stuff I’ve dug out of thrift stores and played with him. We also hit up all the newest trends too and being a giant goofball kid myself we just have a blast!!
I have to admit being the adults now is pretty heavy. Our parents truly lived in a different world. Media portrays everything to be so dire and bleak. Personally I shut a lot of it out now. I keep informed but I don’t dwell.
I do miss all the hope and optimism from back then. Might be a youth thing but it also seemed to change drastically with 9/11. Like the entire narrative changed.
This said I do believe our micro generation will be key in teaching the youth how it used to be before society was sucked into technology. Hope is not lost my friend the youth are pretty cool these days.
Thanks for healthy positive dose nostalgia fellow time traveller :)
Same. Math and I are not on speaking terms at the moment. Anyone who asks me a math related question get the “Sorry, Math and I are taking a break at the moment.” lol it’s been years.

I hated the Smarties, especially at the higher levels.
Yes! At my elementary school we rotated days between music, art, and computers. Whenever computer class fell on a Friday, it was number munchers / Oregon trail for the entire class.
