At what point would the value of an inherited item outweigh the sentimentality?

People inherit stuff all the time and let's be real, it's largely junk. Other than property, it's usually kept or sent to charity. I am set to inherit an incredibly old designer fur coat when my mum passes away and I know it's worth a few thousand, but I'm not interested in selling it. It's not going to be a lifechanging sum of money, it's like less than two months wages and it'd probably just be a holiday or something so I'd rather pass it on to my daughter. It got me thinking though, what is the point at which the financial benefit outweighs the sentimental one? Nobody is selling a prized family heirloom worth 50p, and nobody is holding on to a million dollar painting. For me it's probably got to be approaching a year's salary I think. An amount of money I would feel the effects of for years to come. What about you?
