Not to fully dissuade you, but let me tell you about my 10/22 takedown journey so you can maybe skip a few of the steps I had to pay to take.

I got a 10/22 with the Magpul Backpacker stock because that stock is sweet. I proceeded to shoot 6MOA groups from the thing while my tube-fed Marlin made in the 1930s was still holding 2MOA just fine, and my Ruger Precision Rimfire was boringly MOA with SK Rifle Match. I finessed the tensioning ring. I upgraded the firing pin and bolt. I bought the stupid Magpul sight mount.

Then I said several unprintable things and bought a Volquartsen takedown barrel for more than I had paid for the entire 10/22. Now it shoots 1-1.5MOA all day with good ammo.

Here's the point: if you want to hit what you're aiming at, just skip directly to buying a receiver and bolt plus either a Volquartsen or TacSol barrel, and a Backpacker chassis, and put the thing together yourself. It will take you a couple hours and save you dozens more; it will cost you hundreds of dollars and save you hundreds more.

If you don't need a takedown then buy a FJ Feddersen and call it a day.
