People Who Use Spoons for Spreading Butter - How Do you Do it?

I've read this in a few places now and feel like I'm missing something. Do you use the back of the spoon? If not, how do you get the butter out of the dip on the front of the spoon? Are there significant advantages over a knife? Pictures fully welcome.

it's a trick in catering to use the back of a spoon to butter bread as it's faster and gets a nice even layer.

How is it even? A knife that's straight is pretty even, rather than a spoon, which has a large sticking out portion in the middle and tapers at the edge. That's what I don't get :P

Butter on the spoon, then using a lighter you heat the bottom of the spoon to turn the solid butter to liquid, then you gently poor the melted butter on the bread.

What you really want is one of those extra large flat pallet knives. A larger flat surface is great. Most people don't have them at home so they seem to have resorted to spoons as being larger. I can't see it being any better than a knife though if you actually know how to use a knife. I never really have problems spreading butter with a knife so I'm not going to start spooning now lol.

The back of the spoon, although I do find it spreads quite thick with a spoon. Not a complaint just an observation
