Are there any British celebrities who you were shocked to hear don't have awards (e.g. OBE, MBE, CBE, Knighthood, Damehood)? Are there any you think deserve them?

For the last couple of years and for the majority of her time on Strictly Come Dancing last year I thought Angela Rippon was a Dame.
Just think: broadcasting legend, national treasure, almost 60 year career since 22 years old - you'd think so.
Nah, just a CBE (I say 'just', it's a bleedin' great achievement!)
I also think Stephen Fry deserves a Knighthood or an OBE at the very least and was shocked to hear he has neither. Whilst I'm not knocking them down, if Ant & Dec got OBE's at 41 and Fry hasn't had a single honour... come on now.
So, my question is - Are there any British celebrities who you were shocked to hear don't have awards (e.g. OBE, MBE, CBE, Knighthood, Damehood)? Are there any you think deserve them?

There's tons of people who don't believe in knighthood/damehood and/or the royal family who turn it down and I respect those people more.
Top_Instruction5539@reddit
blind resistance is not a virtue
Awkward-Lawyer-406@reddit
Fry did coke in the palace.
hoganpaul@reddit
So did most of the royal family
Awkward-Lawyer-406@reddit
Very true lol
JennyW93@reddit
Who hasn’t?
waamoandy@reddit
Stephen Fry is unlikely to get anything as he's been to prison. That makes it difficult for the honours committee.
6-foot-under@reddit
I think he has refused it. He was asked in Graham Norton once and he acted like he had been offered and refused it (without saying or hinting that).
mrs-cunts@reddit
How could he act like that without so much as hinting it? I don’t understand
6-foot-under@reddit
You just have to watch the clip. A normal reaction would be "they haven't offered it, what's going on. I'm waiting for the call" or some type of joke, but he kind of just goes silent and is grinning and saying "no no no".
Jonography@reddit
But that would mean he hinted?
6-foot-under@reddit
Just go and look at the clip. No I'm not sending you a link. Good day.

Beaublu8@reddit
Anthony Joshua got a non custodial sentence and managed to turn his life around.
RuneClash007@reddit
Nah I'm a big fan of AJ, I like how he turned his life around and has become a positive role model for kids, was just pointing out that being in trouble with the law doesn't restrict you from honours
Harrry-Otter@reddit
If anything it should be the opposite. Somebody who’s been to prison and then come out, turned their life around and become a positive role model should be in strong consideration,
Extreme-Kangaroo-842@reddit
You would assume that Bobby Moore is Sir Bobby Moore.
Nope.
Brewer6066@reddit
He died pretty young. Charlton didn’t get his until 1994 when he was 57, Moore was 52 when he died.
Extreme-Kangaroo-842@reddit
Yeah, I know. Far too young.
Bobby and Geoff Hurst absolutely deserved theirs but I was more getting at that you would think Bobby Moore was knighted in his lifetime, or even posthumously. Being the only England captain to lift the World Cup.
alrighttreacle11@reddit
You can't be knighted posthumously, the knighthood ends on death
alliedbiscuit6@reddit
Martin Amis was given his a day before his death.
alrighttreacle11@reddit
That's unfortunate, there were calls to strip Jimmy Savile of his knighthood but they couldn't as they saod they don't exist after death so no need to

Just let him have ultimate power, better than anyone that's been in powerv or will be for a really long ring

Some celebrities turn them down. Not saying that is the case for those two but others certainly have.

The person who was most overlooked was Alan Turing. It's well known that he saved untold lives by shortening WW2, but his larger contribution was founding computer science as an academic discipline. Either worthy of a knighthood.
