Are PNY SSDs any good?

Was thinking about this guy. I have heard raving reviews about PNY SSDs and I've heard others saying they shit out in a few months. Anyone have any experience with them/input?
ZeroPaladn@reddit
They're great budget drives. Can't go wrong with them.
tatufann@reddit
I own one and I concur.
austinw24@reddit
I own one and agree as well.
Substantial-Ad3217@reddit
How's it holding up so far? I'm looking to get one for a blink sync module 2, which means constant writing on the drive and being on 24/7.
austinw24@reddit
lol 6 year check in? It’s still perfect. No issues so far.
Alexwarrior7@reddit
Damn 6 years! AND YOU REPLIED?!
austinw24@reddit
Always do.
Armand_Raynal@reddit
Thank you for your service sir
austinw24@reddit
Y’all are gonna keep making me come back here to get the last word.
Abyss_Aether500@reddit
Is it any good for gaming?
austinw24@reddit
I mean, it’s an old SATA drive. It’s been fine. If you want raw speed, NVME is obviously going to be faster but I use it for retro games now and everything is pretty instant.
deleted_by_reddit@reddit
yeah.
austinw24@reddit
I’m still here for the last word.
deleted_by_reddit@reddit
damn seven years and still here lol
austinw24@reddit
I actually deleted reddit when they changed the API rules but I happened to log in these last few days because I needed random information for some projects.
Also, yes still here. As a note that is on topic, this drive gave me a weird warning in Crystal Disk so it may be going out. Might swap it soon since it’s my boot drive.
deleted_by_reddit@reddit
Same story I deleted reddit around the same time
austinw24@reddit
They dragged us back in with the wealth of information lol
strangedell123@reddit
How is the pny doing these days?
austinw24@reddit
Still going strong! I’m probably going to retire it soon because I used it for my boot drive when I built this years ago and I want to moved to a 2TB. I’ll update this thread when it gets retired.
Lonelythulhu@reddit
Getting another PNY?
austinw24@reddit
Probably a crucial or Samsung since that’s what my other ones are. Not opposed to PNY. obviously it has lasted a long time.
MelloNinja2@reddit
hey man hows that same drive? looks like a good price used has it held up for the past 9?
austinw24@reddit
Still perfect. No issues. I did have 3 Sabrent drives die since this thing went into use and it’s still kicking.
Super-Needleworker-2@reddit
Nice, gonna buy one for my parents. Thank you for your service
too_many_nights@reddit
You stole the last word after all. Great job.
CuLAB@reddit
Aight, let's see if you are still here... Thinking about getting a 1TB for video clips and other video media. What are your thoughts?
austinw24@reddit
Depending on the size of your video clips, 1TB isn’t that much. Is it going to be local storage or in a NAS?
Elliot-is-gay@reddit
PNY ssd still good?
austinw24@reddit
Yep. Still kicking
uberthemanuver@reddit
yeah you convinced me thank you man
austinw24@reddit
No problem! Glad I could get another PNY person on board!
uberthemanuver@reddit
bought it haven’t had any issues and it’s amazing thank you for helping me make up my mind
austinw24@reddit
Awesome! Hope you get many years out of it!
auggatronic@reddit
apologies for asking a question that has been answered a couple million times already, is your drive still kickin? i plan to get two PNY drives for older laptops.
austinw24@reddit
still great!
auggatronic@reddit
just got two and installed them. they're great drives so far. hoping mine last as long as yours!
Elliot-is-gay@reddit
Thank you! If a PNY drive can last long enough to keep an 8 year thread alive I definitely think it'll last me till i upgrade my PC again or longer.
CuLAB@reddit
Damn bros immortal... Im probably going to just put 1minute clips from my games... Im currently sharing it across my 1tb game drive and I have no issues with storage but want to seperate the two so its more organised and so the clips dont eat up space for the future
austinw24@reddit
Yeah go for it. It’s been a great drive
Avinash_13@reddit
One more check in. And also what model was it?
austinw24@reddit
CS1311 and still going strong!
Key_Salary_663@reddit
How about 8 years, still good?
austinw24@reddit
Yep, still trucking just fine
WaldoWillwin@reddit
Okay but how about a 8 year check in? I just ordered one off eBay so im jw 😭😂
austinw24@reddit
Do it
moody-imakecsskins@reddit
This is reddit at its finest . I wanted to buy one and I always check for reviews , nothing can top up a satisfied consumer that gives updates for 9 years ! We need to have a birthday cake for this reply !! Thank you man somebody tag PNY somewhere ! This person needs a cookie or a gift
austinw24@reddit
lol a gift in this economy?!
literallyOrso@reddit
I need to get the PNY CS900 for and old laptop and in case mount it in my desktop pc for maybe random games and files (or dualboot linux). Is it a good choice? There is the 240gb model for only 20 euros on amazon.
austinw24@reddit
Yeah it’ll be fine for that. Might want a bigger size given the size of games but do what fits your budget
DryJuice_0w0@reddit
whys mine always 100 percenting
parrotcarrot12@reddit
Dying or virus
DryJuice_0w0@reddit
Could mine also be a fake one because ive scanned my pc with countless virus scanners and its in good health 99percent
ShiroyukiAo@reddit
For that question the answer is if the storage is the full advertised size its fake because you can't really get full size in a storage drives because of formatting AND system and Bit and Byte are different lets say your storage drives is 1TB its not full 1TB with formatting the max you could get is around 960GB maybe 940GB
DryJuice_0w0@reddit
Ahh i see what you mean so far nothing has been deleted from my pc when I install bigass files that fills up my storage
Iloveherthismuch@reddit
Bought a PNY, Sandiskand Cruical SSD all within a month , the PNYs crystal disk score started to drop rapidly. When the PNY was at 66% the Crucial was still 99%, although the Crucial had more reads and writes. 33% more actually. The PNY failed at circa 55%. This was 3 years ago, the Crucial and Sandisk are still running as per post.
No-Kaleidoscope-8187@reddit
I've had mine for years. 500gb. Bought it at Walmart as a quick storage for my ps4 games back when it first dropped. Worked well with apex back in the day. I reformatted it to download bios, and OS for diffrent PC builds over the years. Never had a single issue. Currently have it installed as a temp upgrade to the MSI laptop I picked up. Ssd for OS and the PNY sata ssd for BOPS 6 and Monsterhunter Wilds. No issues.
bath-time-toasted@reddit
I feel like it's just case by case. I hear mostly good things but my CS900 just failed spectacularly 9 months after installing. So I'm going with WD now lol
DoubleTapSkinFlap@reddit
Honestly for the extra $21 why not grab a Crucial MX300 525GB SSD? Crucial is fantastic, had my MX200 240GB a year and no crap out yet.
Lagoon_M8@reddit
for a person living in western world it's not a diffefence... for a person living in eastern Europe or Asia it is, so i would not really be taking 21 dollars more expensive drive
SadBoyEMSI@reddit
Did you buy it u/Sam1051v? how's the PNY SSD?
Finnfunbot@reddit
I bought it about half a year ago. A week ago the SSD and my nvme both got wiped. So I suggest a better drive but it works for a while. I would put unimportant data on the drive
Lagoon_M8@reddit
But you know that sometimes when you buy laptop in the market that seems to be cheap you get some worse SSD in there! For example Fujitsu or something else... No one cares and they work really long without any faults. I think the reason could be intense use or incorrect use of the SSD not manufacturer.
Snowman319@reddit
Damn that sucks!
Lagoon_M8@reddit
Well... I was comparing vitality recently of this SSD vs others. They give sometimes twice more hours of life on PNY... I bought it to my Son recently and so far after two weeks of use it's all good. I think I will buy it for my PC now to function as a storage drive (1 TB). I also have many years Kingston drive... some claim this is also poor quality drive... I had no issues for around 5 years or even more now. Possibly this is competition that is spreading these rumors about worse quality or shorter life of these drives. I think they are save.
