If a healthcare worker gives medical assistance on a flight, their flight ticket should be reimbursed

Some medical professions require medical professionals to render aid, and failure to render aid could result in disciplinary action against their license. On the other hand, if a person is impaired in any way on medication, drugs, or alcohol, it could also result in disciplinary action on their license if they do render aid. They can also be sued. And boy, oh boy, are people ready to sue at any opportunity. No good deed goes unpunished. Luckily there are protections in place, such as Good Samaritan laws, but these do not apply to most medical professionals. As long as they are acting within the standard of care, they should be able to successfully defend themselves in a lawsuit. But there are gray areas. For example, because a nurse is not able to declare someone dead, they must continue CPR until a doctor or someone else with authority declares death. CPR is physically exhausting. It's unsustainable for one person to do compressions for the amount of time it might take a plane to find a place to land. And if nobody else steps in and offers to do compressions, that's tricky. What is trickier is...let's say the nurse is traveling alone with a two year old. She is supposed to render aid....leaving her two year old alone or trusting a complete stranger to care for her two year old. It has caused issues before, like during Hurricane Katrina. Everyone was told to evacuate. Some nurses were single mothers, and needed to evacuate their children, but didn't have any family or friends who could take them. And they were expected to stay at the hospitals to provide care for patients who couldn't be transported out in time. Nobody really realizes that nurses have the strictest laws about this, and are one of the few medical professionals that are asked to risk their lives for that of their patients. For this reason, I really think nurses should be considered first responders. If an off duty EMT sees a medical emergency, for example, he can choose to ignore it. A nurse can't (unless he/she is impaired).
