I changed my exhaust tips but it doesn’t sound louder/cooler. How do I make my exhaust sound louder/cooler?

I got evil energy exhaust tips from amazon and a lot of people said on reviews that they r really good tips. well i got two and bought some exhaust clamps for it but my car sounds the exact same but very slightly different. I did some research and was thinking about a muffler delete and putting in pipes. I don’t know. I’m just starting to get into my car. (2008 pontiac g6 gt) I need help. i wanna make my car sound cool.
AlarmGroundbreaking7@reddit
Take the mufflers off or keep one and take res off
bornecrosseyed@reddit
Exhaust tips don’t change the sound of any car at all, they’re purely cosmetic. You’d have to change the muffler or the whole exhaust system. Do not just do a muffler delete, it will be extremely loud and extremely annoying and likely not sound better, just louder.

Thanks man this is actually really helpful. I won’t do a muffler delete i don’t wanna be that guy hahaha. What type of muffler do u recommend?
Normal_Antelope_3346@reddit
Fuck that muffler delete and annoy everyone
ProfessionalHour1056@reddit
Late to the party just cut it off at the engine pure sound

I did a Muff delete on my 4.0 pathfinder 🤷♂️

This guy just fed you a lot of BS

Lies. I know this is late but I have a video comparing my truck with and without a tip and the sound is noticeable even in the video. Bigger tip = deeper sound. Small tips won't make a difference. Only bigger ones.
Embarrassed_South918@reddit
Same in real life too 😏

I can agree with this, annecdotely. I had a S-10 with a 4.3L in it in highschool. It did have an aftermarket (flowmaster) muffler. This obviously makes the biggest difference, but when the exhaust was originally put on it had 2.5" tips. I did not like the sound and switched them out for 4" tips and the sound tone and volume was noticeably different. Now I would say that had the truck had the stock muffler the difference probably would not have been as noticeable. This was pre-youtube and camera phones so no one ever recorded any of this type of stuff.
Crellis86@reddit
Are you sure your distance, gain, angle, and off set of the microphone were all identical in both situations? Not saying you're wrong, but in terms of your entire exhaust system the tips play a negligible effect.
It's like when people try and sell you silver wire instead of copper wire for your stereo speakers and headphones. TECHNICALLY, it "improves" the sound. But only to a point where a machine could pick it up. Anyone who says they can tell the difference either has godly levels of frequency attenuation and should be making millions editing albums for platinum artists, or is just experiencing confirmation bias and it'll wear off over time.

Can yu share which tips u got currently looking for some

You’d have better luck eating a duck and shitting out a pillow, there are two v6’s in existence that sound “cool” one is the Alfa Romeo “Busso” and the other is the Nissan GTR. You can maybe and this is a big maybe, go buy a cheap welding rig at harbor freight and some 2” round stock in a big mess of pre-formed angles and lengths. Assuming that turd of a GM boat anchor has cast pot metal manifolds housing a cat in each. You can get a pair of flanges fabricated and start tacking snakes toward some collectors and if you cross over header tubes from bank one into bank twos collector and same from two over into one so that the firing order becomes sequential and alternating evenly across banks rather than the typical cross plane crank characteristics of power strokes happening on bank one then bank two twice then bank one twice then bank two once and bank one again, you’ll have if but only in exhaust pulses, a flat plane crank firing sequence alternating banks with each power stoke sounding like a Japanese four cylinder street bike in comparison to the sick, leaking, ticking, heavy as your girlfriend, opossum shit covered, soggy little dog dick of an engine you have under the hood of that sanctimonious abomination of mobility! FUCKING CUNT! Ditch the cats duh weld in some snorkel bungs for the down stream o2 sensor(s) leave the upstream where they were or close enough, merge into x pipe then split against each into short glass packed resonators finally meeting up to some kind of muffler that’s not obnoxious , the novelty of a “race/chambered” muffler vanishes after 6-7 minutes of consistent speed cruising on the freeway as your eye balls vibrate and your tiny testicles become homogenized , molecularly uniform and functionless, as they’ve always been just now they’re like what you’d expect if you sliced a lacrosse ball squarely along its equator… no identifiable deviation in composition, firm, incompressible, and without utility. Welcome to fuckboy fart can exhaust reversion resulting from unmitigated collision of pressure waves neglected to be deflected elsewhere than from where they originated… AKA exhaust drone …aka “I know nothing about my car but I’m pretending so much that I’ve convinced myself but my girlfriend knows I’m a tool and so does her dad and definitely the older dude she’s fucking behind your back knows and he also wakes up with a dick harder than you’ll ever work in your life so get used To being a cuck.” I forget the acronym but that’s a long one … but wait you’ll never do any of this and I just laid all this wisdom on your unappreciative tiny balls for free and I could have summed it all up like this …. “You can do whatever you want to that car , fuck put a fighter jet engine, some wings, and hang some hellfire missiles out the window…. But at the end of the day, it’s still a PONTIAC FUCKING GEEE SIXXXX!!!!!” Just sell it and buy something cool … like a short stool and a long rope. (Takes a bow)

"MBRP off road exhaust" I put it on my '11 jku, not too expensive and not way too loud. Honestly I think it's perfect sound for. Jk
Ambitious-Abalone428@reddit
Get resonated tips and drive your car, over time they'll get "rezzed" up and sound better.
Leather_Parking9313@reddit
“Rezzed up” is that the same as rizzed up but for cars?
Ambitious-Abalone428@reddit
Resonated, like a new bowl would taste metallic as you smoke it it will start to taste better 😂
Mikfinity_@reddit
Late ass reply but I fucking love this analogy lmao

Nice 👌🏾

You need to add performance stickers it will make your car cooler, the stickers add horse power as well.

91 probe hahaha I forgot about those

Love it adorning the Go faster stripe

I don't believe the tips make any difference at all.. I have 4-in Marauder exhaust tips with flowmaster mufflers that's where you get your sound from. cat-back system.
ROCKSTAR7613@reddit
Go to a muffler shop. someone with at least a four-star review. You definitely don't want to be too loud. I went with flowmaster mufflers I'm at the top of the range before getting pulled over for loud exhaust I have a Mercury Grand Marquis i went from single exhaust to straight dual exhaust. It sounds great.
Possesed_throttle@reddit
Actually I have done exhaust work for 32 years and yes a tip can change the sound some almost none but some such as the custom ones we use drastically make louder or lower or quieter depending on the size shape and internal composition and if you are thinking about a delete consider a glass pack they are cheap and on a v6 or especially v8 they can sound quite mean.
SeekNDstroy1722@reddit
do you have any recommendations or links on where to find exhaust tips that change the sound?
Additional-Swim3717@reddit
I don’t think it matters the brand. I don’t know everything, but from what I was told if you go 4 inch tips the sound will definitely make a difference
deleted_by_reddit@reddit
bro the reviews said they are really good tips and you assumed they would be louder? Also why would the tip make it sound cooler your not getting rid of the muffler or resonator. Instead put a cold air intake and a performance chip you will easily add 180 horsepower!
TriadBasher@reddit (OP)
haha i guess not louder but just a different noise yk. a lot of people said to not take off the muffler which is not going to but i’m still a baby to modifying my car. Im thinkin about the cold air intake. A performance chip sounds very expensive haha
calamarigod88@reddit
he was joking for the love of god dont get a "performance chip." go get a tune
throwaway007676@reddit
Exhaust tips won't change the sound. And it sounds cool now, the way it should be. Unless you want to take off the muffler and wake up the entire neighborhood every time you turn the key. I really wish they would tighten up the laws about that stuff.
TriadBasher@reddit (OP)
I did! my state allows exhaust changes but only to a certain degree of noise. I don’t want to be THAT guy on the road but i want to make my car you know sound cool! i was thinking about the cold air intake but thank you this helps a lot. Do u recommend a performance chip?
calamarigod88@reddit
he was joking lol
AKADriver@reddit
Nothing will make a car like that sound "cool". Just annoying.
PuzzleheadedBaby3871@reddit
CVT in my FXT makes my “totally radical” exhaust system sound so annoying, I have many regrets. It’s “cool” when I drive it with the paddles, it actually sounds like a manual, unfortunately she won’t let me right now.
Sounds like a loud and throaty chainsaw 😹😹😹
Sean_s456@reddit
Gonna cry?
Garrett_ryce@reddit
Don’t you just love the people who laugh at you instead of help you… sigh lol, to answer your question and actually be helpful, tips won’t do much, they can on a big engine but it’s negligible at best. That being said, your biggest (sound) gains will be from going catless/test pipe, getting a catback(which will sound good on a v6) or the simple but a bit ricer method of chopping off mufflers & resonators. IMO, what you’re looking for- is just to weld in a performance muffler which should be less than 300 w/ install included. And this will give you a cool sound, allow you to not spend a shit ton of $$ on a full system and also not be too loud or shitty sounding… think magnaflow and the like, summit racing carries good options as well. srry for word wall homie lmao
Luckyfruitsnack@reddit
My exhaust tip has shown me a slight difference in sound, plans are to buy a performance muffler also bc my cars throwing an exhaust code 🙄 do you think replacing the muffler would resolve the code (P0420) or would I need to upgrade the entire system?
chickenmac69420@reddit
I know the thread is old but look into street legal performance slp 3in to 3/12 dual tip do it on a single exhaust and you'll be impressed it will be deep and a little louder paired with a resonator delete and a good magnaflow aluminum glasspack not red those are loud fiberglass the non painted aluminized line have Rockwool like for gardening it won't burn out like fiberglass glasspacks and is way deeper just go up a size on the muffler from pipe size the bottleneck a hair inside.best of luck in the car world many debts and broken knuckles await you 😅

Wow. You guys are brutal. Leave the poor guy alone
