Whistleblowers aren't even their most recent major fuck up. They were caught with rusted titanium parts this week.
Titanium doesn't contain iron and cannot rust.
Its ravioli I was handed this same meal on the flight as well. I was drunk so I ate it. Wasn’t terrible but definitely not decent or good. Just straight up edible. Tiramisu was decent though.
Maybe I'm just extremely lucky but I don't remember ever eating tiramisu that wouldn't be somewhat enjoyable. It's just like tiramisu is so good that even the low cost versions are yummy.
Agreed. I’m not a big fan of the “tiramisu” cake that some stores try to pass off as tiramisu. It’s a yellow cake with coffee flavored icing. It’s not tiramisu!
With that said, if a piece were in front of me right now, I would eat that thing so fast haha
Ravioli with peas and tomato sauce; I had it recently. Not great by any means but there’s much worse airline food out there. Delta food in general is usually decent af.
People have these crazy expectations of plane food, but let's be honest, if it's not gone bad, you're usually just happy to eat at that point. Most of the time for me I'm already feeling unwell/headache by the time I'm served so I'm happy with anything.
The one time I WASN'T happy with plane food was when I was flying to Japan this spring and they served us this omelet with salsa thing. I could tell something was off about the salsa, like it was kind of sour and bad, but I already had a brainsplitting migraine and was literally crying from the pain (none of the flight attendants wanted to help me or give me a painkiller), so I ate it anyway. Long story short, when we were already in Japan the next day, I could not. stop. shitting. Legit, I don't know what was in that eggs and salsa but I was just nonstop on the toilet for the majority of our first day. It was so bad.
I'd probably eat a hungry man before that, maybe you could take one and ask to use the microwave. Otherwise I take a fair amount of food on flights so I can snack and get by without having to eat airline cafeteria food, I'd rather eat an mre which ain't saying much
i agree. maybe it’s bc i’m drunk by the time the meals get served, but i’m just grateful to get some food at all
i just be jamming the fuck out to my music when i’m drunk, playing games, overall just vibing. and then boom!! food and bevs! it’s great
and tbh i’ve never had bad airplane food either? it’s cool too bc my wife and i will get two diff things and we’ll split it
i guess my brain just associates airplane food with good times (besides the scary flying part)
This comment is wild
Like, I'll have a cup or two of wine over a ten hour intercontinental flight but being drunk on a plane sounds like a horrible experience lol
I got drunk on a plane once and it was amazing. We were on a nonstop long haul flight to Tokyo and I was seated next to a very exhausted nurse on her way to a Thailand beach vacation. The woman in front of us started berating the flight attendant after the flight attendant declined to bring her a 3rd meal (she didn’t like the first two the attendant had been kind enough to bring her).
Nurse and I tag teamed up on the rude woman and shamed her into putting on her sleep mask and not speaking for the rest of the flight, and the flight attendant brought us free wine for the rest of the flight
It was absolutely lovely but I was very hungover for our first morning in Tokyo
I had a lovely plane ride where I made a human connection with two strangers - a lovely southern flight attendant and a hardworking NYC nurse, and all three of us had a fun time joking around.
I’m sorry that you’ve never had a fun but short connection with a stranger, it sounds very miserable
I bought a liter of rum at duty free right before getting on a flight from JFK to Schiphol. About 30 minutes in I cracked it and poured a drink. Figured I'd save a little money. Then it dawned on me that I couldn't get it through customs on the other end with an open bottle.
Genius that I am, I'm not going to waste money, so I figured I had 7 hours to polish off that bottle.
I damn near pulled it off. Might have been two fingers left when we landed. Near as I could tell, nobody was the wiser, but boy was I fucked up.
I used to drink too much.
Don't even get me started on the 4 grams of shrooms I ate on the way back.
Back in the Wild Wild West days, my buddy and I brought a sixer with us. It was a quiet flight so they turned a blind eye when we cracked our own beers. It was a wild time.
Oh it’s so much fun if you’re a chill drunk. I was vibin, playing animal crossing and listening to my podcasts, chill and drunk af and having a grand old time lol
I used to fly every six months when my now-husband and I were in a long distance relationship. Back then I was always fine, perfectly comfortable, no problem at all, and the first time I flew, a few years after I moved, I was *miserable*, and that's been the case ever since. Just freaking out due to feeling confined. I was very confused about why I used to be so okay with it until I remember how hard I used to hit the airport bar before my flights. Then I was like oooooooh it was drunkenness. I see. Now I just pay for exit rows and eat Ativan.
I got drunk on a transatlantic flight once. Slept for the last two hours of the flight. Landed horribly hungover and had another flight to catch after. Horrible experience, would never do it again lol
Oh dude yeah I get a pint before a flight usually, regardless of time, and keep a steady buzz for anything under 5 hours. Makes the time fly - just flew to Greece, forgot my passport so had to go home, change flights, go back in like 3 hours, and so yeah being buzzed for the second airport attempt definitely smoothed it out
Haven't been on planes recently and I kinda miss airplane food. Can I go to an airport's catering office and ask for a few boxes of unserved/unsold ones?
Totally. I’m not picky, but usually it’s decent. You’re also eating a hot meal 30,000 ft above the ground hurling toward your destination. They get added taste/visual points for that. It really does break up the flight too.
I’ve only ridden cheap ass flights but what’s the deal with the smell??? I feel like I’d be gagging. Does the whole plane smell like food for the rest of the flight?

Poor people shouldn't be eating slop either, everyone should have access to quality, nutritious food for *at least* very cheap prices. You might agree, but instead of saying "this should be better" you said "it could be worse." Why should it ever be worse?

I see nothing wrong with this. You're in 30000ft high in air. Try finding food up there.
Also, Delta serves decent food even on economy. Try Air Canada. They'll give you frozen bread and water.
I used to fly between New York and Texas a lot when I was a kid in the 90s. I remember on one of those flights I had some kind of fancy dinner, there was a chicken in a tiny dish and maybe some beans or some shit. that was the only time I've seen any kind of special meal service on any domestic flight. then came the baskets with the sandwiches in them. nowadays if you're lucky you get Biscoff but that's all.
Canadian and American airline food is complete garbage, unless you are in business class … then it is tolerable. Had some cool meals flying in Thailand tho.
I get excited with the Biscoff cookies. I would be afraid to eat more than that because making your way to the bathroom feels like it would be treacherous.
I LOVE those, I never had them until I took a flight to somewhere (hell if I remember where, likely either Denver or the west coast) I also found generic branded ones at Target with the scientific name for them, "speculoos" or whatever it is
Better than hospital or jail food.
Well, depending on the hospital. The one time I went to jail I swear to god they spiked the “Gatorade” because I felt absolutely aweful after drinking it. Gave my tray away because I was getting out the next morning.
Immediately went to Chick-fil-A when I left
Take it from a physician: hospital food is inconsistent. One item on a menu can absolutely slap, and the one beneath it might be the single most unholy concoction known to man.
I always had good luck with hospital food. lol I say "always" like I've spent longer than one four day stint in a hospital. but the food was surprisingly decent.
Yeah I noticed this too when I had a run with DKA (in and out of hospital almost ten times in a year). The Jersey hospital I was in was awesome, and then the Virginia hospitals (the two I went too) sometimes had bearable food and other times, even though I wanted to and needed to eat, I couldn’t stomach it
The hospital I gave birth in had pretty solid food, even if it generally needed more salt. The French toast and potato-crusted tilapia both stick in my mind as having been quite good.
I never enjoyed chicken broth until I had to go on an all liquid diet for a few days.
For weeks later I enjoyed it as a soothing snack to open my sinuses.
I think my best hospital meal was when they forgot I was diabetic and gave me some (and I use this term loosely) chicken, potatoes, fruit, and a frozen ice treat. The nurse came in and asked why my blood sugar was going up and I just shrugged :) It wasn't too high but definitely shouldn't have had it.
I also had some nurses slip me a popcicle or two for my sore throat from the dehydration.
I hated the misconception that diabetics can't have sugar - our bodies require it. It's just that we can't have a whole pack of oreos with a cup of chocolate milk and expect to not be close to the 300 range.
Cheers and I hope the pregnancy went well!
I feel so lucky, last time I was in the hopsital was a 3-day stay and lunch and dinner were frozen Amy's dinners - so much tastier than any hospital food I've ever been served.
NGL, looks tastier than some of my meals. And definitely couldn’t be worse than the abomination my roommate and I collaborated on. I wonder how people have such high bars….
People hate on airplane food too much. What do you expect when everything has to be refrigerated, stored, and microwaved on a plane? They act like Delta is cutting corners with their food, it’s actually pretty good as far as plane food can go.
> What do you expect when everything has to be refrigerated, stored, and microwaved on a plane? They act like Delta is cutting corners with their food
Business/First has similar constraints and airlines still manage to serve good food. This is definitly a meal that was cooked by an accountant.
They could do better.
[This](https://i.imgur.com/3vVAPQC.jpeg) was recent breakfast on American (domestic US first class); dinner was even better but I can’t find the photo.
Quality does vary. [Here’s](https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/american-airlines-aadvantage/2146295-2024-aa-domestic-meal-meals-menu-photos-etc-master-thread.html) a forum where people share photos of their meals.
Yes, of course (unfortunately).
I’m just saying, they could do better. Being plated and served on a plane isn’t why it looks this way, which was the point made in the comment I replied to.
They’re able to better plate/serve food that way in one part of the plane, so they *could* do better with meals served to the rest of the plane, they just don’t.
The Gastropod podcast (which is excellent in general) has [a great episode about how airline food came to be](https://gastropod.com/first-class-fare/) and all the science/effort it took to make it (at least as best as they could) serviceable in that situation.
Literally, I feel like they’re also limited on what they can serve in the air that just won’t taste really bad. Pasta and tomatoes have a really strong taste, and “over salting” them for in-air consumption I feel is a lot more forgiving than some other foods.
While maybe yeah, there could be a wider variety, but I was pretty satisfied with the time I was served on Delta. They served a mushroom and spinach gnocchi with cheese, and it made me think about it so much I made a similar dish when I arrived at home!
I’d still eat it. Besides that one time I held a flight up because my burger took 50min to make. I had no idea the time. Felt horrible but that burger was good.
I flew first class on Delta recently, and it's not much better. Basically the same food, but they put it on a plate and then allow you to use their real utensils. Have also flown first class on United; it's just as bad. Food from first class on Alaska was actually not bad compared to the two others.
never had delta food but im a weirdo who likes airline food in general, this however doesnt look to appealing, ive never been really disapointed with airline food either, i guess cos im hungry and would eat pretty much anything
This is a subreddit called shittyfoodporn, not shittytastingfood, this is simply about how the food looks. Apparently some comments forgot the meaning of this subreddit.
As shitty as airline food can be, I have to say that I got a vegetarian lasagna with a béchamel/cacio y pepe type of sauce on a delta flight back in December, and it was legitimately really good, like I would eat it again right now if I could
I actually learned recently that it’s totally fine to bring food through TSA. Not sure about international flights, but you can bet I’m trying to bring through a sandwich instead of whatever that is.
When we flew back home from Orlando, FL back in 2011, we stopped at a Waffle House for breakfast. My wife took a sausage biscuit to go and the TSA agent in training paused when he scanned my wife’s purse. His trainer told him “Dude, that’s her breakfast. Good catch, though!”.
About 7 hours ago, that was lasangna. But with all the delays and cancellations they heat it, then reheat it, then reheat it again until it looks, well, like that.
were you on a lhr flight to jfk last night by chance? i was. i saw this as they were handing it out and said no thanks. saw some kid open it up and smell it for a few minutes. but then he just decided to eat it
Ooh I had the "tiramisu" on my last overnight flight and I actually enjoyed it. It was still frozen a bit when I ate it and it was more like ice cream than tiramisu, so it didn't bother me that it was off the mark. Nice cocoa powder
No matter how bad it looks, if I didn’t pack snacks, as soon as I smell whatever the slop is warming up in the back, I’m getting one—or quietly lamenting my lack of foresight and social anxiety preventing me from eating in public when alone 😰
