>One expert told BI it's a sign that China is "genuinely surprised" by the attitude of US officials.
This is quite literally how almost all geopolitical and defense experts see a China-US war starting. Neither side can read the other. It happens quite often, actually.
It doesn't mean China isn't being imperialist and belligerent, seeking to assert a regional dominance, because clearly they are. But that's where the bilateral understanding seems to stop.
Stumbling into war is a real possibility.
"It doesn't mean China isn't being imperialist and belligerent, seeking to assert a regional dominance, because clearly they are"
As the US surrounds china with military bases and weapons...
How is that Americas business though? America is forever fighting other countries under the guise of democarcy and freedom. The moment the us gets a chips factory ONCONUS then Taiwan can kick rocks
One could have asked the same question in 1939. Its not our business until it is and allowing warmongers to fulfill their revanchist ambitions and become powerful enough to threaten us isnt a good thing. And for once we'd actually be defending freedom and democracy. If Taiwan wanted to join China they could vote to do so
If I remember correctly Saddam thought he could invade Kuwait because he thought the US was indifferent due to the way statements by the US embassy/Ambassador were worded.
Granted I am poorly paraphrasing. There's a notion I've heard repeated a few times that it is elements within the US government, and the west in general, with strong ties to the military industrial complex that want world war. They are the ones that want intervention in the middle east, who want war with Russia and who want war with China.
Regarding the defense of Taiwan, the US is quick to assert the answer that they would defend Taiwan. Even when that isn't a question that anyone has actually asked them.
There are elements and individuals within the western government who are eager, even desperate for war, regardless of the front because they are in position to benifit from it.
What in the tinfoil hat are you talking about? There’s a notion you’ve heard repeated…. By who?
The US was quick to assert it would defend Taiwan because we have a mutual defense pact bound by treaty which states we must. Specifically these statements have been made as China continues to build its military forces nearby and stage mock blockades and military exercises next to the islands.
Are there warhawks within the US government? absolutely. However, No one has called for war with China or Russia within the US government. Our public officials don’t openly threaten to nuke Russia at any point unlike Russia does to other countries.
Furthermore, we have seen members of the government like Dick Cheney who clearly profited from the Iraq war. The US has destabilized third world countries for the benefit of American business. However, the level of destabilization currently taking place in the world doesn’t help any American. Ultimately our hegemony and power is reseeding and it’s clear that there is multiple attempts to weaken American dominance in the geopolitical spheres. This benefits no one in the US.
You don't think those heavily invested in Raytheon, boeing, Lockheed Martin, Leidos, Northrop Grumman, etc are positioned to profit from war?
The war doesn't have to involve the US, it doesn't even have to be war, further tension and escalations suffices plenty.
Look at Israel and Ukraine we've sent them tens, even hundreds of billions in outdated equipment stockpiles these last few years. Factories are already at work replacing them. Pump the fear everyone invested in defense profits, regardless of war.
US defense companies have indeed benefited from increased military spending. Although Raytheon is the only defense stock up a negligible amount over the last year.
Having said that I still don’t agree with your argument. Most people have a diversified stock portfolio. Wealthy individuals and senior members of our government aren’t going to benefit more by the slight increase in defense stocks rather than a healthy economy.
I do believe that we are seeing a deliberate attempt at removing American influence from the world by adversarial state actors. It not only includes current wars, but also through the destabilizing of the American dollar. Ultimately this is going to hurt our economy more than anything else.
US defense stocks are still American companies listed on the US stock exchange which is listed in US dollars, a fiat currency with no underlying value except the full faith and stability of the American government. The level of destabilization produced by the current wars does not help the system in which we will live economically.
Moreover, US defense spending represents 3.5% of our GDP and US defense stocks represents roughly 2% of the total market cap of US publicly listed companies. Politicians and senior members of our government are better off staying ahead of trending news and trading based on insider information.
Biden just signed a bill that essentially sends an Additional 95 billion to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. 3 billion to the border for the lols.
Previously there was a bill for 40 billion to Ukraine.
This is all in addition to already existing annual expenditures we send to those countries in aid.
I'm not about to suggest Putin is in on a scheme to launder hundreds of billions for the MIC, but that would be a hell of a thought. Maybe Xi and Sinwar are in on it too.
Xi trying to pretend invading Taiwan wasn't his idea. Ukraine is holding strong against Russia with all the new aid finally flowing in and F16s coming soon. Crimea becoming an unusable russian base of operation. Of course Xi wants to lower his war footing now that shit looks bad for him and his friends.
Wow it sounds like USA, NATO, The West, and the Brave Democrats [scored a touchdown](https://astroturf.com/artifical-sports-turf/football-turf/) against Putler, Winnie the Pooh, and the traitors in Congress. We, the everyday American people, are so lucky to live free from their militaristic and pro-war propaganda. It's impossible to state how superior and far sighted our leaders and, more importantly, our cultural norms and institutions, are compared to these undemocratic countries.
He had no choice. USA has been planning their takeover for decades. He asked to join NATO. They refused. He asked that they stop expanding around him. They refused. When he wanted to negotiate. Johnson was sent to tell Zelensky no. USA has used Ukraine as a pawn and for a piggy bank for over 10 years now. When Russia went to put missles in Cuba. What’s did we do? Why would you expect him to do anything other than what he did ?
USA politicians who want forever wars hated that relations were getting better amongst NK. Russia, China and the Middle East. Even zelensky asked to talk recently and got shut down it’s like he’s not even in charge. I mean really he’s not in charge.
They're waiting for the USA to invade Iran for Israel. Russia won't let Ukraine have Crimea back, they'll use artillery nukes to stop them.
WW3 official declaration will happen anytime now.
We’re actually leaving the Middle East. We only attacked the Houthis for optics.
That’s why Saudi Arabia is buddy buddy with Israel now. It’s also why Hamas attacked Israel on Oct 7, when Israel was supposed to sign something like a formal alliance with Israel.
I read somewhere that they were having all kinds of issues in some wargames (nothing worked right - people weren't in the right place - just a cluster).
So now to save face it would perfect to say "we're not doing it because you are just trying to trick us"
This where you'd call BS if you were serious.
They have issues with corruption in the military, where officers have sold munitions meant for training and defense which is how they found rockets filled with water.
Xi also gutted military leadership in a set of purges.
Not to mention the biggest problem China has is with demographics ie the birth rate is worse than Japan’s now and old people are starting to outnumber working adults. Having a war will only make that much worse. The only reason we’re beating them on demographics is solely due to immigration.
Man you are exactly on point and you understand the one child thing and the immigration here. I’d like to have a beer with you sometime.
Unfortunately you know a lot of senior military leadership has been purged here.
Lastly - ask the Ukraine and Russia about corruption.
Thanks for the response.
Under international law the island of Formosa is sovereign territory of the Democratic Republic of China and not even the US formally recognizes its independence.

He’s only been taking about “reunification” and invading their air and water space with military jets and boats for a decade now, but yeah blame the USA.
President Xi just turned 71. As a person he is pretty sharp. But he’s at the helm of a monster and political office doesn’t pay very well over there. They aren’t buzzing Japan. Ours and their navies like to push each others buttons. The gas has been poured and just needs a match, so to speak. That’s my armchair analysis lol
