Anybody know a comfortable and cat resistant gaming chair?

My current chair is shot and needs to take trip to the dump. I have lovable yet ill behaved cat beasts in the house and I would like a chair that they will be less able to destroy.
I am not getting rid of my monsters, are there any chairs that might hold up to this abuse?
Hazard0814@reddit
Test and find out the most offensive smell they hate that you like and bathe your chair in it. Mine hate oranges lmao.

You have choices:
1. Get a cheap and sturdy looking chair(thrift shop?) and hope it lasts. Cover it with a blanket of sort as added defense against unguided chair disassembly.
2. Get a normal chair that sits well and find a way for your seat mutilators to stop, either a fitting altermative so they leave it alone or plain training to get them to stop.
3. Buy something thats simply impervious to cat-astrophic attacks, such as a steel garden chair with a removable pillow. comfortable? Probably not. But it will probably outlive your demons of chair destruction.
4. Ban unholy chair rituals by making the room cat-free.
Durenas@reddit
5 get the cats a scratching post.
-Z3LD4-@reddit
You must not have cats
Durenas@reddit
Well I sure didn't 5 years ago.
Exotic-Bid-3691@reddit
Yea I've got 2 scratching posts per room, yea I love my little terrors fuck off, and they still destroy my chair
Durenas@reddit
Holy crap, this is such a popular topic for a thread that was started 5 years ago.
beasleydawg@reddit
Dodging the question tho.
Durenas@reddit
Classic_Run_4836@reddit
If you don't really believe I am searching for options right now. My cats are absolute terrorists when it comes to rubbing their nails on furniture.
FireZog@reddit
i also am looking for a chair. maybe i could start a business...
Durenas@reddit
you could get a nail trimmer and trim their nails.
Feyrue@reddit
Still looking for a chair!
FireZog@reddit
im also looking for a chair. and to think all that happened 8 years ago.
Harkin222@reddit
You ever get cats bro?
dogcmp6@reddit

Get a chunk of carpet from a remnant store or buy one at DG and cut it up, tack it to your chair back with upholstery tacks (or duct tape). At night pack your seat full of heavy stuff to keep them off it, or roll it into a back room they can't access. You could have your cats declawed but that seems like mutilation to me and I've never done it. No matter how many scratching posts you have they are still going to gravitate to wherever you are or have been. Your smell makes them feel safe. Good luck.
Whatadabber420@reddit
I found the solution!!! Your cat needs its own gaming chair.
pywakett@reddit
Yeah, mine has already taken over mine. If I get another one, he will take that one too.
ZC_The_Moo_Man@reddit
Doesn't work he's got 2, and scratching posts. He still chooses the one I'm using.
Tiny_Rich_8965@reddit
DXRacer Air Pro. DXRacer Air Pro. My cat likes it. The chair is not damaged by his claws. 2 years and nothing happen.
Lilac-Storm-6969@reddit
Still looking in 2025 😂
Nf1nk@reddit (OP)
Sadly, it is looking like this post might outlive all my cats.
Rutlledown@reddit
There is no hope. I will purchase an iron box and sit on that. The cats will still find a way to destroy it. This thread will never die.
MoreRopePlease@reddit
I want a chair that won't smell when they pee on it and I try to wipe it off.
Colonelxkbx@reddit
Are they spraying or are they legit pissing? There's an easy fix for both. If they are spraying they aren't fixed. Get them to the vet and that stops almost instantly. If they are pissing then you either aren't cleaning their litter box correctly or often enough.. or you're doing something significant to piss them off and it's revenge.
MoreRopePlease@reddit
Fixed as kittens. Plenty of clean cat boxes around the house. My theory is anxiety. As he's gotten older and more comfortable with the older cats, and more comfortable with humans, he's peed on the chairs less. I still don't trust him, though. I put a cardboard box on my chair when I'm not using it, and I've draped plastic sheets with a blanket on top on the living room chairs (it's annoying but much easier to clean).
Rutlledown@reddit
Let me know if you find one 😢
MoreRopePlease@reddit
The closest thing I found was at Ikea. It's hard plastic with a removable (and presumably washable) cushion. I would have to sit on it to see how comfortable it is. But it has a low back, so you can't lean back, etc, on it. On the bright side, it's shaped such that the pee won't spill off onto the floor (which is a problem I have with mesh and many chairs-- they lean back, or they are porous).
Marzuzu92@reddit
That is a serious issue, my little shitters definitely mess up my chairs but piss is a totally different story. There's gotta be a way to fix that behavior.
MoreRopePlease@reddit
For the time being, I've spread plastic sheets and blankets on my living room chairs, and I put a cardboard box on my desk chair when I'm not using it. I'm seriously considering rehoming this cat. My theory is that he's expressing anxiety from living in a household with 3 other cats. (My working theory is that peeing on a chair is mingling his scent with ours, an expression of insecurity of some kind.)
Marzuzu92@reddit
You may be right to rehome, I had a cat who was always being attacked by the other ones. She had to be given to a family who could love her and a home where she could feel safe. Definitely try to be as sure as possible that's the reason because it could be worse for the cat as well. Maybe stay in contact with the family you adopt him to see if he gets better/worse.
Marzuzu92@reddit
I had a cat who we rehomed and she would not get out from the washer dryer room in their house so we took her back and she is now the biggest lover when before you would have been surprised she even wanted to be here.
ZombieFrogHorde@reddit
Just a tip if you mix lemon juice and water (50-50) and spray it on the chair they will leave it alone. They hate getting the smell on their paws.
Nf1nk@reddit (OP)
Worth a shot
MikeTheBee@reddit
Did it work?
Nf1nk@reddit (OP)
No.
But I trained her to go after a really fancy scratching post.
Colonelxkbx@reddit
Every try sticky paws? Basically double sided tape. Put it everywhere you don't normally touch on the chair and the cats will not fuck with it and eventually learn not to. After awhile you can remove the sticky paws and you're good to go. Surprisingly worked well for me. Just cover your chair with a nice blanket (the part you sit on and use) when not in use so they don't destroy the only part available to them. I know I'm a few years late.. but theirs hope.
Independent_Judge647@reddit
I appreciate the update after 6 years.
QuietRhyhm@reddit
LOL I love that this thread is still going cause here I am a year later wondering the same.... My super awesome lazy boy computer chair is destroyed. Yes I have scratching posts, yes I've been trying to train to demon to stop but he gives zero fucks. Especially when zoomies hit. My poor chair is primary target.
Nf1nk@reddit (OP)
What really seemed to be the trick for my beast was an extra tall scratching post 36" tall with a platform she can sit on. I put it next to the chair and give her treats when she uses it.
Almost all the scratching in the house outside of the post has stopped.
Cold-Reporter-403@reddit
So I should get a cat tree with a scratching post? Also, hello from November 2024 😂
Nf1nk@reddit (OP)
The cat tree didn't work, it had to be an actual extra tall scratching post.
sjneow@reddit
Looks like MSI and Cooler Master both released chairs marketed as scratch resistant this year
buffyinfaith@reddit
Here it is: https://www.msi.com/Gaming-Gear/MAG-CH130-I-REPELTEK-FABRIC
zyarra@reddit
Cool
btw almost any VELVET material is cat proof
source: 4 cats
StormRanger28@reddit
True. We have a sofa with velvet material.. still looks brand new
zyarra@reddit
Same, after yearly replacing stuff for... so long!
another idea if you EVER had accidents: water proof matress protector ! :D
nannerpuss74@reddit
ok i have found a good answer and ya can find them cheap if ya look. i was in the army for 20 plus years and when I first joined there was the standard used and abused office chair upholstered in usually orange or blue, a solid plastic exterior and arms with a fabric interior. i never knew who made them until this thread made me search. lookup steelcase pollock chair there is a lowback and a highback version. you cant buy new but if ya go to any office liquidation place they should have a stack of em and they should be dirt cheap.
